lilly among clouds </3 at least my runner up made it, woo
I like the whole production of the song. Dynamic choruses, lovely instrumentation (I really love the glockenspiel/music box sound included), and haunting lyrics at some parts. Their voices work great together, and they showcase the message of the song very positively on stage. I'd only wish if the last chorus lasted a bit longer. It's the most powerful one, and the short time it lasts just makes it feel rushed. They could also need some more rehearsals to time their singing together, considering I heard a few off-tune moments during their national final.
But besides that, I really like what Germany has provided.
This might be another bottom 5 for Germany, sadly, thought I can definitely see it do a few places better than that. I could see them showcase enough stage presence for maybe a ~18th place, but god knows if I'm right with anything lately lmao
Overall, Germany had better songs in store for a better result, but in my standards, I'm glad to see this at Eurovision. I hope for the very best of luck to Carlotta, Laura and Germany through out their Eurovision 2019 journey!

“Sister” evokes female empowerment through times of struggle, and the special relationship shared between the two women they characterize in their performance ... so why do I find it such a lame entry? Look, it’s a song called “Sister” by a duo female group named “S!sters” (the edge! Look out for that exclamation point on your television screen) about female empowerment, and I’m a man. It’s not explicitly written for me. Laurell Barker wrote it. I find it weird that it was written at the Swiss songwriting camp BUT WAS TURNED DOWN. And that Barker also wrote the United Kingdom’s entry. Actually if you type her name into Wikipedia you will be utterly astonished by how prolific she is in the Eurovision songwriting scene. It kinda makes me want to puke, actually. Certainly there are people from Germany who can write songs?? Laurita Spinelli (Kastel) and Carlotta Truman are both wonderful singers and play off each other during the verses, then bring it home during the chorus with strong harmonies. I cannot fault them for this, and in some ways it actually saves the song a bit. I was surprised to find out that Spinelli (the brunette) is seven years older than Truman (the blonde!) But from the toy piano plucking to the overt tone of pain over “drama,” as opposed to... you know, missing your father and having actually written the song yourself, about yourself, for yourself - it’s really testing the waters of ‘song contest’ versus ‘vocal performance contest,’ which is a common thing among several of the pre-qualifiers this year. It’s not a song for me, and you can argue this point, that's fine. But I just don’t think it’s a good song, either. It reeks of manufactured performance theatre. If you ask me, I do think they can avoid the bottom 5 with some expertise, because they do have chemistry. But in all honesty it's looking at 20th place as a success, and that’s not progress.
