The song is stunning, but I have so many complaints about that performance...

An easy for me. A beautiful song, a huge improvement over last year (even though Hvala ne grew on me). Hopefully this qualifies

If I were asked to name one song from all ESC 2019 songs that best represents the music of 2019 - in terms of where music has progressed since 2018 - it would be “Sebi”. For better or for worse, this is the ultimate “Spotify”-friendly song, and I don’t think this song could have come out even two years ago. ...This is what I love about it more than anything. My first genuine thought when listening to it for the first time was ‘when is it going to get “big”?’ - I mean, when would we get the big, explosive moment that everyone would latch onto? Spoiler alert: it doesn't. It’s mellow, laden with percussion, and some could say it’s a strange concoction. And yet… it’s magical, ethereal, and dreamy. They have fantastic chemistry together. It’s entirely in Slovene so I don’t have a clue what they’re singing, and it’s for the better because otherwise people could get too connected to the lyrics than the dreamy sound of the song. Does that make any sense? I dunno. The live performance doesn’t lose that magic feeling, either. I did look up the lyrics translation and it seems to be a message between two lovers, or perhaps from within oneself (as the song title would suggest), to allow yourself to “be” and that there’s no reason to forgive others for being yourself. There’s going to be people out there who dislike the song, who don’t “get it,” and think it’s boring or simplistic. Some might not like the lackadaisical instrumentation or its heavy reliance on a drum track. I understand those critiques, but it does not personally bother me. In fact, this is the one song I’ve gone back to over and over and over again this preseason. It just doesn’t *feel* like a Eurovision song, and that’s what’s so great. But it’s a risky one, for sure. That’s why I’d assume this has less of a chance of faring well with the juries. I’d be heartbroken if this does not at least qualify, though. The challenge is selling the song with staging and giving something back, much like what Lithuania 2018 did at the end of the song with the connection between Ieva and her husband - I didn’t like that song for various reasons but it managed 12th place, so that’s where I think this song is landing minimally, realistically, but I will secretly hope for higher. I’m happy to say that for the first time in five years of watching ESC, a Balkan state makes my personal Top 5!!

Why can't you hold me in the street? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor?
