UNITED STATES of SONG 2020 - State Song Selections
Thank you to everyone who submitted songs to USoS 2020! We're in the midst of going through each and every song, making sure it fits the rules and regulations. For 46 of the 51 entrants, the song will be chosen behind the scenes. But what about the other 5? Yes... 5!! I lied about only three. Oops. We will begin the USoS season with three state song selections, and two state song duels! Yes, we are trying something new. I want to "liven up" the period between the end of song submissions and the state song selections and give people something to do. Otherwise it just feels like people sent songs into a void So the three states above will have traditional song selections. They are CALIFORNIA, NEW YORK, and - for the first time - TEXAS. We receive so many songs for these states, that it's really only fair to have a song selections to decide the entrant. Each of these three selections will have 8 songs. A post will be made in the next week or two announcing that the selections are open, and they'll stay open for like two weeks. BUT. Between then and now... STATE. SONG. DUELS. Yesssss. The states of FLORIDA and TENNESSEE how can we forget her will have a special kind of state selection held here in the forums. Each state will have 4 songs: 2 sets of 2 songs per state. The two winners will then duel for victory, similar to this year's Norwegian NS. I'll use polls in this thread to handle the duel voting. So kinda like this: Florida A vs Florida B, Florida C vs Florida D, Tennessee A vs Tennessee B, Tennessee C vs Tennessee D. If A and C won in each state, then the final would be like: Florida A vs Florida C, and Tennessee A vs Tennessee C. The song with the most votes in the final duel is the winner, and the loser is the backup entry. The person who submitted the winning song receives global recognition (on this forum) and maybe Disney World will donate some tickets for your skillz. But I'll only announce who sent the song after the voting is over, just to avoid any kind of bias I guess. So stay tuned!! We will start the first duels on 7 February!------------- Thank you for everyone's interest, and may the best song win!

Voted (The videos should be set to start at the recap times) If I wanted ppl to start listening at a recap part, I would have made a recap video instead Voted. Didn't expect a certain song to be in this. Both artists (including the featured singer) are working in Tennessee. So it works!

THE DUELS ARE OVER! There were 7 voters (on par w/ last year), 6 forumers + 1 google user (here's a link to the vote of the google user, if you care) The results are clear. The songs going to Kansas City are: NYA - Love You To Death (submitted by me, artist idea from Sel) and Built By Titan ft. Joe Kirk - Ghost (submitted by Pablo)
Congratulations! The first two entries of this season are known. Thank you to everyone who voted. Fun fact: I've known of The Dollyrots for almost ten years because they had a small radio hit in my region "Because I'm Awesome". But they never really took off, so it was cool to see they're still around. They would have had my vote in case of a tie. I would have also chosen Built By Titan. Regardless, we have started this season off with two really solid entries.
And now, the real fun begins. Welcome to...
The 2020 STATE SONG SELECTIONS
Yes, three more states will hold a song selection to choose their entry! As announced earlier, they are California, New York, and Texas. Each selection has eight songs (submitted from many of you!) The songs I chose from those submitted were based either on song variety, submitter variety, whether it fit the rules of the contest, and several other factors. If your song didn't make it, I apologize. Most of mine were eliminated! The order of the songs is completely random. Together we will vote using points to determine the winner. Here are the selections:
CALIFORNIA
1: Fairground Saints, California A country music trio from Santa Barbara. Ironic song titles aside, a great pop country blend.
2: Anja Kotar, House Party Pop singer, lives in San Francisco area. Slovenian roots (duh).
3: Dana Williams, Holiday Singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, placed 4th on Rising Star (2014).
4: MUNA, Number One Fan Electro pop band from Los Angeles, led by singer Katie Gavin.
5: Kitten, Me Returning for the second year, a punky alternative rock band from the LA area.
6: Alex Ebert, Stronger Also from Los Angeles, has been in the music industry since the late 1990s.
7: Moxi, Wolves Indie pop duo of siblings Anna and Andy Toy. One of the newest bands taking part.
8: DeathByRomy, Let Me Fall Los Angeles native Romy Flores enjoys mixing hip-hop and dark electronic pop.
NEW YORK
1: Loote, Tomorrow Tonight Pop project comprises singer-songwriters Emma Lov and Jackson Foote (makes “Lo-ote”).
2: BAILEN, I Was Wrong The Bailen siblings’ alternative sound focuses around guitars and compassionate lyrics.
3: Megan Vice, Super Delicious Her sun-tanned music video will drench you in glam rock, funk pop, and tongue-in-cheek lyrics.
4: Raia Was, I Can't Reason Experimental art pop artist from NYC whose music is an exploration of her personality.
5: MALINDA, Don't Make Me Returning for a 2nd year, MALINDA writes a song themed around Game of Thrones.
6: LP, Shaken A female rock singer from Long Island. Has been performing internationally for 15 years.
7: Grace Gaustad, Photogenic A young mainstream pop singer from NYC, has a large following on social media.

8: Oh, Weatherly / Without My Ring (I Think I Want You) Dallas-based acoustic rock band. Replaces an eighth act that was disqualified.
VOTETo vote, please send me (Gregory (inactive) ) your TOP 6 RANKING in a PM. I'm working on putting together a form for non-forumers, which will get announced tomorrow. You can send me the specific points (10-8-6-4-2-1), or send a full ranking if that's easier. I will tabulate the points after the deadline, and announce the winner. You don't need to send all states at once; you don't even need to vote for every state (but it would be cool if you did ). A summary of all 24 songs are in each of the spoiler text boxes above. The deadline to vote is MARCH 7th, 2020. I will announce the winner with the person who submitted the song, a few days after the deadline passes, hopefully no later than March 14th.
MEANWHILE...*As the state selections are going on*, I will begin announcing the entries for the other states in this thread. That way it doesn't feel like we're solely focused on doing chunks of voting at a time, and that way we can perhaps be ready before March is over for the First Semifinal. Is that enough info? Cool. Best of luck to all the songs out there, and have fun! Let's do this!!

Nooo, not the Dollyrots losing! I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, though -- I actually submitted another one of their songs to a song contest on another site, and it did terribly
