Okay n1. As I had explained to someone previously, I didn't even know special editions existed, I just sent in a bunch of suggestions for South Africa and then read what I thought were going to be the rules/recommendations of the next edition which would maks half of my song mute.
Secondly, the exclusion of North African countries was a commentary on some of the politics of some people within those places, not an endorsement of such a practice, but sarcasm doesn't travel well in text.
You brought up Monark yet again. While yes, I agree that often these contests have a bunch of white people or black people from Europe represent countries that they have never even been to, Monark, while white were born and raised in South Africa. This isn't a 1/5 people is from the Gambia situation like you described. This isn't even a Aminata going to represent Burkina Faso situation. These are South African citizens, who yes, might happen to be white, yes their ancestors were not native to SA, but that doesn't mean they should be singled out. You also talk about more traditional and native music, which is a very nice and understandable sentiment, but you also need to understand that South Africa has a rich tappestry of music and a lot of it includes "Western" styles like pop and they are extremely popular.
Finally, from the tone of your response I could gather that you think of me as some sort of charlatain, from some village in Croatia, whose never gone up from the rock he lives under. I'll have you know that I've been friends with a Tunisian man for years, I'm in close contact with a Nigerian YouTuber and I have several friends in South Africa. I have 2 Afrikaner friends, 1 English-speaking SA, 1 Zulu, 1 Xhosa/Sotho/Zulu and 1 Ndebele and all the songs I sent in as suggestions came from them and my own research. They all listen to pop, rock, afropop, electro etc. While yes, the Afrikaners mostly keep to themselves, the rest of the ethnic groups, black, white and South Asian intermingle a LOT. Please do not begin to assume that I am somehow xenophobic and backward, and as for me being a nobody who wanted to change rules... well you know, I'm a journalist and part of my job is to report on and try to make a positive impact on any injustice, even a small one on a online song contest. I perceived that there was a discriminatory rule in place for which I apologize, but in my mind I acted accordingly and with outrage, just as I did recently when I wrote an in-depth article about the genocide and ethnocide of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people in Canada by the Canadian government and several churches, including the Catholic Church, which I'd have no problem sharing.
For future reference, you can presume what people did, have done or will do, but do not think you can presume who they are or their life experience. Regards, M

For future reference, you can presume what people did, have done or will do, but do not think you can presume who they are or their life experience. Regards, M Hey Marin. If you couldn't tell by the week long gap between your response and mine, it is because I don't have the time nor patience to be dealing with this kind of bs. Anyways, to your remarks. In regards to the not knowing of special editions, all I can say is this. In the same announcement I made them, I specifically sai d this: "When one of these two special editions are going to happen, it will be announced an edition in advance to give everyone time to find an acceptable song that would fit the criteria". Even if a chunk of your songs wouldn't have been allowed in that special edition, people recommend songs that aren't allowed in the contest, period, on a semi-often basis. You wouldn't be alone there. I'm just wondering if you completely skipped over that line, saw the one thing about white people being banned, and just saw blood? Then again, seeing some of your comments in the discord adult channel, I know your mind is an enigma that I don't have the time nor resources to fully understand. In regards to the Maghreb comment, I could tell you were "being sarcastic", or as it actually is called, playing devil's advocate. I know this isn't a remark you actually agree with, but when people do this sort of thing, more often than not it is just used as an excuse to justify their terrible opinions. I've had to learn this the hard way through the American education system. I honestly don't know how many times I need to say this, because I specifically said it at least twice in my prior comments, but MONARK IS JUST A FUCKING EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE SEVERAL WHITE ARTISTS WHO WON THIS AFRICAN CONTEST. If you bothered reading my comment, you'll remember that I gave them credit for being THE ONLY FULLY AFRICAN ACT TO WIN THE CONTEST AT THE TIME I CREATED THE SPECIAL EDITIONS. I literally don't know what more you want from me. Do you want me to worship these white men? Literally what the hell do you want from me on this? ? If I thought you were some charlatan from who gives a shit, Croatia, I would've just called you a charlatan from who gives a shit, Croatia. I don't know anything about you. All I know is the words that you shared with me. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, as I have no idea what your life is like. I just came at you with the same energy that you came at me with. I will admit that I got really pointed at the end, but do remember that I was typing my response for over 40 minutes. I was more than ready to apologise for my tone. However, once you specifically mentioned the fact that you are friends with a Tunisian and in contact with a Nigerian, that all went out the window. Your comments took a turn from "I'm not racist, but..." to " I can't be racist because I have black friends". As I mentioned in my previous comment, I "don't see why you'd need to bring it up unless you want to have a reason to justify your bad faith arguments". Literally you went from something that is rooted in ignorance, to directly going into one of the most common forms of deflecting any responsibility for the comments. Similarly with your reporting. Good for you. Literally don't see how that is related to this argument. It is really gross seeing something like this actively used in a community that I have found a safe space in, especially being a cultural outsider. It is vile, and I sincerely hope that you'll never try to use this again. At the end of the day, your comments showcase me that you know exactly what you are doing, and know the cultural nuances that you've seemingly ignored for the sake of your arguments. Everything you said feels like it should be summarised with this single phrase. "There needs to be more white people in this African contest". What in the coloniser? If I could share this with Queen Victoria of England, she would absolutely adore your comments. I am not above criticism and critiques in regards to the ways I host my contest. However, any comments that seem to have a very prevalent undertone of racism will be dealt with. Your comments have this exact undertone. I am done with this argument in this specific thread. If you want to continue this, do so in my discord private messages. Any more comments placed in this thread will just be deleted. Do keep this in mind. Kindly, Chante

Hello, I have a question about next edition. Do gibberish, unidentifiable lyrics or imaginary languages count as non-European languages? I have a song for Gabon (also relates to Singapore and USA) with no discernible lyrics whatsoever apart from the song title and was wondering if it would be eligible in case I switch to it for next edition. There is a possibility that the lyrics may be in a Gabonese language that I don't know, and if so I'm sorry if I caused any offense by calling it gibberish haha. Here is the song if you want to check for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAXjdfvzTKQ (timeslot would be 1:39-2:04 fyi, my friend has an RV that I can ask for) Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone in the results show!

Yes they would. The song you linked is in what is most likely the Humbu language, although there is definitely a possibility that it is Téké. I'd personally say it is in Humbu, but there aren't a lot of resources for me to determine which it is. If anyone has any other questions like this, please ask me
