ZIMBABWE CONFIRMS AND REVEALS OUR NEXT ENTRY!
Harare, 17 June 2021 - Today, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has just confirm Zimbabwean participation in the upcoming edition of the Own Africavision Song Contest at Madagascar after finishing on the 14th place in Mauritius by Tkay Maidza.
The Zimbabwean HoD has stated that there's no point for Zimbabwe to withdraw from the contest as the country has never failed to qualified and there's a high amount of public interest.
In this edition, the broadcaster had searched for their next entry via internal selection once again. From 60 short-listed songs, ZBC has finally found Zimbabwe's 7th entry for OAfSC.
Africa, are you ready to welcome the next Zimbabwean act? Please welcome...
KWAYE IS BACK TO REPRESENT ZIMBABWE
After finishing on the 11th place in the 3rd edition with the song "Paralyzed". Los Angeles-based Zimbabwean singer, Kwayedza Kureya, has received another chance to represent Zimbabwe again in Madagascar!
Kwaye brings an irresistibly powerful energy to R&B. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in London, the singer has garnered over 15 million plays across his six released songs. He's got soulful vocals, multi-instrumental abilities and an overall addicting sound. Kwaye is back with "What Have You Done", a daring fusion of R&B and pop that begs the question, "What have you done for me?"
"What have you done for me, baby?"
The track has a variety of moments, but remains smooth throughout with crisp snaps. The pre-chorus is cautious, with gentle vocals leading up to the explosive theme of the song. Ascending synth baseline supports Kwaye's vocals as they dance above the track.
Kwaye comments on the meaning behind the lyrics, saying, "That feeling of dependence on the wrong person can become the most difficult thing to escape, and ultimately drive you further and further away from yourself. 'What Have You Done' is the wakeup call that comes when you realize you've strayed too far. It asks, 'At what cost have I continued to love you?' in an act of regaining confidence and reclaiming ownership of yourself. There's also an underlying narrative throughout the song about the importance of education and the lack of extensive teachings of black history beyond slavery in our school textbooks, but equally, how history and culture and have been channeled through music."
"What Have You Done" by Kwaye Music & Lyrics by Kwayedza Kureya, W. Leong Zimbabwe at the Own Africavision Song Contest 7. Timeslot: 2:35+
We wish them the best of luck! See you in Madagascar!

UPDATE 2 FROM BURUNDI
Burundi are quickly giving more hints as to their entry, as it was confirmed that an artist from the past six editions would be representing the African nation in the upcoming edition in Madagascar.
As the new delegation ended the Burundi qualification streak ( ) , we decided it would be best for a returning artist to represent us. This artist knows the contest and has been on the stage before representing Burundi. However, this update is to reveal something... Aiza will not be representing Burundi. She has already participated twice in the past before, and achieved great results. However, she is not available to represent the homeland of her parents at this time. The artist that will represent Burundi is..... NATACHA!
The Burundi entry of this edition will be revealed soon, and I hope we can reach a better result than last edition. That isn't very difficult though...
