I tried actually ranking them. It's not 100 % accurate - especially in the second half.
My top 20 of Benidorm Festival 2023:
1. Vicco - Nochentera I can't say a lot here. This is just a good pop song, vocalised by an enjoyable voice.
2. Agoney - Quiero arder At first I had some struggles with this song. He has an interesting singing style here, but the deformation of his voice (Idk how that's called in English) in the first part was absolutely not needed imo. Also the first minute seems overall to be a bit strange to me. However it becomes actually quite fun and enjoyable the more it goes on.
3. Karmento - Quiero y duelo When I was first checking the artists some time ago, Karmento was someone who really didn't get me, so when this came on, I had low expectations. But I was actually wrong there.
An original clap-along song in a genre I've not heard too often before. I also like that it sounds Spanish - I guess? - thanks to the castanets used. Overall as well a fun song.
4. Megara - Arcadia It's a powerful rock song - something we haven't heard from Spain in the competition before. Her voice is also good and enjoyable I'd say. As much as I like it, though, I can't really see this in Eurovision ...
5. Aritz Aren - Flamenco This is another uplifting song that was more earworm than I expected it to. It bothers me, however, that a) I hardly understood him,
(which may also be my headphones though ) and b) for a song called "Flamenco" the lyrics include way too many English words.
At least Aritz can sing.
6. Sharonne - Aire Judging from the studio version on Spotify this entry seems to be at least alright, but guess it's one of those songs we need to see performed live. On the other hand Idk whether I actually want that as I have my doubts wether Sharonne is able to reach those high notes. Why are those even there btw? Personally I doubt that because even in the studio version they seem to be struggling and strain themselves ...
7. Alfred García - Desde que tú estás It's very Shawn Mendes to me. That's not a bad thing, though. I can actually imagine Alfred's song to be played on the radio here.
Overall, I find it quite impressive - especially the last minute is amazing.
8. Rakky Ripper - Tracción Here I didn't have too high expectations. But then it turned out to be surprisingly good. It's instrumental annoys me a lot, but it's also catchy.
9. Siderland - Que esclati tot First off, is this actually in Catalan? If yes, please win thx! But just for the language because the song might be quite alright, but not much more, I fear. Especially the backing vocals got on my nerves.
10. José Otero - Inviernos en Marte José has a good singing voice and a relatively original entry in the festival. It's not that bad, but personally I just can't get into it yet. Maybe a few more listenings are needed here.
My main issue are all those "oooooh ooooooh" parts that could be reduced a little bit.
11. Famous - La Lola Famous is another participant with a good and original voice. His song is a disappointment, however ... It has too many "eeeeeeh" parts and that trumpet or whatever wasn't needed either if you ask me.
12. Meler - No nos moverán A very boygroup-ish song imo. Not very original and includes lots of "nanananana". At least vocally they seem to be okay.
13. Sofía Martín - Tuki Istg, 5 seconds in - and her voice annoyed me so much already ...
As the song kept going, I somehow still managed to like it - to some extent. At some parts it seemed to be too fast.
14. E'Femme - Uff! The song title says a lot already lol. It's an okay-ish girl group song and basically what I expected it to be. Uff! is actually not even that bad, but it's very basic and repetitive. I'm referring to things like "I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm" etc.
15. Blanca Paloma - Eaea First of all, what does the song title mean?
Eaea is a standout entry in this line-up as it's very original. On the downside - and also why it's so low - a mess.
16. Fusa Nocta - Mi Familia Apparenlty this is the favourite to win? If I may be honest, I don't quite understand why ...
Yes, it's original and she's a special voice, but it's also hectic and messy. However maybe, that's just the genre because it's not quite something I'd listen to myself and am not used to it. Therefore particularly the part from 1:40 to 1:52 left me with many questions, if I may say this lol.
17. Twin Melody - Sayonara It sounds quite cheap tbh. and I didn't really enjoy it. However it's catchy and also has guilty pleasure vibes. But that's about it honestly.
18. Alice Wonder - Yo quisieraAlice has a good voice, but this song is sadly just so boring ...
Over the 3 minutes running it evolves not that badly, but overall it's just not for me.
It's the second season of the revived festival. I'm overall happy with what I was listening, also because it has a good variety and lots of different songs.
