Time to Play That Ainu Music アイヌ スィノㇳチャ イェ シリ Ainu sinotca ye siri Posted from the headquarters of the Hokkaidō Ainu Kyōkai in Satporopet, Ainumosir (4 Mar 24)
Following a drop to 14th place from the 9th that was experienced in the first go around, the Hokkaidō Ainu Kyōkai has announced that they will be participating once again, this time in Nairobi. There's been a growing interest in Ainumosir of the contest, with numerous Ainu musicians sending in songs, and we are proud to announce the next artist that will be representing Ainumosir
OKI (沖)
It's finally time. The legendary musician Kanō Oki, known mononymously as OKI, will be our representative in Nairobi. Born in Hokkaidō in 1957 to a Japanese mother and an Ainu father (who happened to be the legendary Ainu artist and activist Sunazawa Bikky, who among many other things, was the designer of the Ainu flag). Sunazawa divorced his mother, and he wasn't aware of his Ainu heritage until his 20s. Until then, he was raised in Kanagawa prefecture, where he became infatuated with the political nature of Jamaican reggae. He spent the 80s in New York City, where he befriended a few Native Americans. Those friends opened him up to the political nature of existing as an indigenous person, and awakened his political consciousness. In 2019, a new law was created, establishing the Ainu as an official indigenous group, but Kanō said that the law limited the amount of options for preserving Ainu culture, and gave too much power to Tōkyō in determining what parts of Ainu culture can be showcased.
The track that will represent Ainumosir in Dublin is...
