 RUV expecting economical problems?
Since the contract with several sponsors has ended last year, RUV is more and more worried about its economy. "Northvision is a must" says current HoD - Rick Mikhelson, "but if we continue to take part in it without the necessary support from our sponsors, we'd have to give up broadcasting more important things than Northvision, such as internal researches, news and so on." "Yet, it would totally be a shame to see Iceland withdrawing from the contest" he explains.
RUV is now currently searching for new sponsors and a new HoD to help the country to keep participating in the two contests, Nordisk Melodi Grand Prix and Northvision Song Contest, but also to fund the internal song festival Söngvakeppni Sjönvarpsins.
If no sponsor will be found, most likely Stöð 2, broadcasting entertainment shows like The X Factor Iceland, will apply for the NBU membership.
The current chairman of the broadcaster is expected to give a speech soon regarding the Icelandic situation in the contest. |
