This shouldn't be a big deal, but for some reason, it really is for me, but I'm kinda offended by the use of a taco to represent Mexican culture. The sheer level of cultural reduction that was taken to make the taco the symbol of Mexico is very tasteless, and as an ethnic Mexican, I know there were better symbols of the country from which you could have chosen.
Now, I'm not going to throw a tantrum and walk out of the contest because of this, but if I can make a suggestion, I would suggest that we just go back to having flags represent the countries rather than fitting the flags into these shapes and symbols. It is difficult for me to watch the recap because all I can see is the fact that my culture has been reduced to a taco.
I want to emphasize that I'm not angry at the administrators for this, but I am uncomfortable watching the recap to the point where I don't think I could watch it again.
Thank you for listening, and I hope something like this won't happen in the future.
