Congratulations,
Sweden! I think by the first time we saw his performance at Melodifestivalen, we all knew that this might be the winner of this year. So let's be honest, it's an absolutely deserved winner. Well done!
Also congratulations to
Russia. I knew it would be between Sweden and Russia. And I even predicted that
Germany would give
points to Polina. I just knew it. We have a huge Russian diaspora in Germany, but the thing that helped Polina the most was: Politics. Yes, politics. You might expect that everybody would hate Russia because of Putin, but in this case it helped Polina. Europe wanted to show that it doesn't care about politics, and voted for her. Pseudo-non-political voting, which in the end is political again. Also,
Russia was kinda in the victim role this year, as we all experienced the booing last year. So, many people instinctively wanted to protect Polina from that, which resulted in heavy support.
It somehow deserved the 2nd place, but still I'm really surprised that it actually placed that high. I mean,
Sabina Babayeva had those dress projections already in 2012 and
Aliona Moon in 2013. Both had better effects, but no-one cared. If "Million Voices" was sung by
Hungary, it probably wouldn't have touched the left-hand side of the scoreboard...
Italy,
Belgium and
Australia got really good results. They have been among the favourites, but not every favourite actually gets a high position. So, great for them!
When I saw
Latvia in the Semifinal, I knew it would be an obvious qualifer. And when I saw her in the Grand Final, I thought it deserved a Top 5 placing. Now I'm super happy that she almost got there. 6th place is fantastic, well done!
Estonia was marvellous tonight! The performance with a real tear at the end was even better than in the semifinal. I wanted them to win
I'm happy for the places of
Norway,
Israel,
Serbia,
Georgia and
Montenegro. They were great
I appreciate that
Romania and
Armenia came into the grand final, but 15th and 16th place is too high in my opinion. Their songs just have "emigrants, please for your home" written all over them.
I love how
Greece "only" gave
points to
Cyprus and then
Cyprus even went one step further and gave
points to
Greece
Spain is 21st, muahaha. I had it on #23 in my top, so I was pretty close. The song just isn't great.
I can't believe my eyes when I look at the scoreboard and see
France,
Germany and
Austria at the bottom.
and
even have nul points. What the fak, Europe?! They all had great performances. Vocally they all were close to perfection. This must be a joke. At least give them one point or something. Also
Switzerland was last in the semifinal. There were far worse songs and those placings are excellent examples of injustice.
But I actually predicted it. I predicted that either
Germany,
Austria,
France,
Hungary or
Poland would be on the last place. Central Europe is always fucked in tough years when block voting and diaspora voting are strong.
Central Europe is always fucked in that matter. Whole Central Europe, without exception, is at the bottom of the scoreboard. Year after year they watch the other countries getting
s from their buddies, while they never get one.
What I find interesting is that the Big 5 (
) + Host (
) are very unsuccessful again. We had a reeeally strong Big 5 + Host this year. They don't deserve such bad positions.
Another interesting thing is how they points are spread.
Serbia for example is 10th with only 53 points. This is super strange. In 2011 you would have been 22nd with that score!! But this year the top 3 concentrated all the points on them, so there were no points left for the other countries. And that is super weird. We all expected to see a very tight competition, but nearly every country gave their highest points to
.
I really hope that the voting system will get changed. We maybe need to get rid of the 12-points-system. In my opinion, a system with 15 points would be better. (15 points for the first place, 14 points for the second place, ..., 1 point for the fifteenth). This would make sure that a lot of countries get some points, which gives us a more representative result, and the country that is ranked 11th everywhere will not go home with nul points.
