Fantasia Contest #02 - Confirmations

"I'm very excited to be working on this project, and I'm incredibly honoured to be representing my country Glaray," Aguilera said during an interview on the show shortly after the announcement was made. "Initially when I was asked, I was quite hesitant about the offer, but after lying in bed that night not being able to sleep and thinking about the offer, I thought it was the perfect opportunity for someone like me to showcase Glaray to Fantasia."

Who is Christina Aguilera?
Christina Aguilera is the highest selling Glaraian musician of all time, with several chart topping albums and singles to her name. Selling over 25 million albums and 15 million singles in Glaray alone, she is regarded as one of the pioneers in the evolution of modern Glaraian music in the 2000's. Her latest album, Lotus (released in 2012), is the best selling Glaraian album of all time, with sales estimated at over 7 million copies in Glaray alone. The album spawned seven number ones. Despite being regarded as one of Glaray's national musical heroes and one of the most influential celebrities in Glaraian culture, she has enjoyed only moderate success outside of the country. She is also one of the judges on The Voice of Glaray, mentoring a contestant to victory in 3 of the 5 seasons she has appeared in. While her music career has slowed down in order to raise a family and to focus on other projects, another album is in the works.



"I believe this opportunity in the Fantasia Contest will give me a chance to break into the international market," she says. "With my new album underway and already being a familiar face to the Glaraian diaspora, I think I've got a good thing going for me here."



When asked whether there would be any public input in picking the song, she said she wasn't sure. "GTV is still undecided. It hasn't really been brought up as the contest is still quite some time away, but I think it would be nice to give something back to all my loyal fans who have stuck by my side." One thing has been decided though - where the song will be from. "The song will be taken from my two most recent albums, either Bionic or Lotus. This will give me the opportunity to experiment with sounds on my past albums that I believe are underappreciated and didn't receive the credit they should have."



When asked about bringing the Fantasian trophy home to Glaray, she said that 'it's not about winning.' "For me, it's not really about the placing - it's what I gain from this experience. I think this is probably going to be the biggest opportunity I will have to break into the international market, so I will have to grab it with two hands and run with it. I don't really have anything to prove as I already have several credentials to my name *laughs* but I know there will be immense pressure from the public for me to do well and even win, but that's not really on my mind. Throughout this journey I will always work for first place, but if that doesn't happen, it's okay with me."
