Hello, my name is Rose Matafeo, I'm a TV presenter and I've been asked by Croatia to be their spokeswoman for NowNewMusic Contest 14. When I asked them why they came to New Zealand for me (even if I have Croatian roots by my mother), they answered: "Because, like you, our contestant lives in New Zealand but her mother (a famous writer in your country) is from a family that emigrated from Croatia!" Then I began to understand and asked: "Are you talking about the poet Sonja Yelich?". And when they answered "Yes!" I was completely amazed: "So the singer is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor? I'm a huge fan of her! How did you do that?" They explained: "We too appreciate her very much and are proud to see a half-Croatian like her having a so beautiful career. We haven't forgotten what she said at the beginning of her presentation in her very first interview: "I'm a little bit Croatian, a little bit Irish" and it was a dream for us that one day, maybe, she would sing for us. And when we heard that she was going to release a new single, we jumped in a plane to see her. Less than one hour after the song was revealed, she had signed. Her video had "only" 150,000 views..." And this is how Lorde will represent her mother's homeland with the song "Green Light"! Enjoy!
THE CROATIAN SONG
Timeslot: 2:27+
Of course I've read the reactions on this thread when people discovered that Lorde would represent Croatia. I just want to answer this once for all:
1) Using her wasn't against the rules, so no need to create a melodrama (the title of Lorde's upcoming album) for it. This is not the first surprising choice, and certainly not the last, and certainly not the most awkward ever, and by the way could have done exactly the same thing.
2) I'm not a pointswhore, I already proved it two editions ago when I decided to select Ana Opačak and to drop Jelena Rozga. If I have a crush on an unknown artist, I'm not afraid of selecting him/her even if there is a risk of not reaching the final. The only difference there is that I had a big crush on a worldwide known artist (and there are many worldwide known artists that I don't like and would never choose) and I wanted to make this tribute to her. And I'm sure that Croatians wouldn't be hostile to the idea of Lorde representing them at ESC... Perhaps this song won't do well, perhaps the haters will make it fail, but you know? She's worth it 100 times. Lorde whatever they say.
3) Obvious but best to be written: useless comments will stay without any answer.
