Sorry for the double post but I thought this could be interesting
eurovision.tv/story/subtle-significant-ebu-changes-weight-individual-jury-rankingsThere's a slight change in the way each country's jury makes its ranking.
Before, each place in every jury member's ranking had the same weight as the others. That meant that, if
country A was the favourite song for 4 jury members but the fifth one placed it 20th, it would have an average place of 4.8; whereas, if
country B was placed 4th by every jury member, its average place would obviously be 4. As such, despite being generally more liked than the other one,
country A would be ranked lower and get less points than
country B.
Now, each place gets its own score. 1st place equals to a 12, and this score decreases exponentially the further you are from 1st place; then, the scores given by the jury members are added. So, if a jury member places a country very low, that country's score won't be as much affected as before.
Using the same example as before,
country A would get a 12 from 4 jury members and the other member will give it a score of approximately 1; this equals to 49.
Country B would get a score of 8 times 5, which is 40. Now,
country A would be placed higher than
country B.
Probably the official link will make it clearer to understand than what I just wrote
It would also be nice to know the equation that has been used to calculate the exact score of every place
