INTRODUCING...  HOW IT WORKS? The charts are compiled using a program that analyzes the weekly top 50 of all last.fm users found in this post. All of the top tracks are then combined into three different charts, a top 40 for tracks and artists and a top 10 for albums. Each recording week lasts from 12 PM UTC on one Sunday to the same time on the next Sunday. The chart will be compiled by me some time afterwards. If your account isn't on the list, but you want to be included in the charts, please ask me about it directly!FORMULA EXPLANATION A user is counted towards each of the different charts (tracks, artists, albums) as long as they have at least 5 unique elements of that type, each with at least 2 scrobbles. The total amount of elements counted is stored as an integer (whole number) n.
Each element of that user is then assigned a value using an arithmetic progression, in which the initial term a1 = 1000, and each following term an = 1000+(n-1)*(-1000/n).
To get a simple example, we can let n = 10.
This means that the #2 element a2 would receive 1000-1000/10 = 900 points, the #3 element a3 would receive 1000+2*(-1000/10) = 800 points and so on. |

TOP 50 SONGS30 July 2017
The first week is kicked off with  Dua Lipa roaring into first place with her song "New Rules". "New Rules" takes the lead with an impressive 495 points over the second-placing  Kesha, with her newest single "Learn to Let Go". Taking to third place is Lana Del Rey, with a track from her latest album Lust for Life, "Beautiful People Beautiful Problems", which features Stevie Nicks. In fact, Lana is an incredibly dominant force in this week's chart, with a total of 14 of her songs making it to the top 50.
Continuing the top 10, we can find Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry" coming in at 4th, Sofi Tukker's "Fuck They" at 5th and three consecutive Lana Del Rey songs, "13 Beaches", "Cherry" and "Change". Kesha's emotional ballad, "Praying" comes in at 9th place and  Gabrielle's song "5 fine frøkner" rounds off the top 10.
Fantasia Contest songs are very prevalent throughout the entire chart, starting with "5 fine frøkner", but also including Vérité,  Smith & Thell, Lawless,  Adna,  Lorde and even the  Glacean entry from the 7th edition, "Save It".

Omg I love this.  Even though I'm not sure how big my influence is lol. And I love how even here I disagree with the majority by having only 6/50 songs even on my phone plus most of the others being songs or artists I never even heard of.  How do I have to understand the points? Is it 1 play = 1 point? |

How do I have to understand the points? Is it 1 play = 1 point? There's going to be a formula change for the next week, which I'll get to once the time comes. The points are not based on plays directly, the script looks at every user's top 20 and awards 200 points to the first place and every following song gets 8-10 points less than the song above it did. Basically: #1 200 points #2 192-190 points #3 184-180 points and so on  The reason the points vary, as I said in the first post, is to clear as many ties as possible and honestly it just feels more dynamic if all songs don't have round numbers of points.  |
