I had a long thinking about all this and I realized, why most of us aren't really happy with this years result and probably some of the previous winners as well - it's all because of Aminata (I'm not blaming her for anything, because you can't blame her for being stronger than everyone else). She was the first to win Supernova as a song selection, so she set the bar for everyone that follows... the bar was set so high that it's almost impossible to beat it! And because of that we obviously think that everything that follows is worse, because we have something to compare it to... I'm happy that we have something so strong to compare everything to, but it also shows our small resources...
EDIT: forgot to mention - whichever song would've won here would probably fail to qualify from semi anyway, because we're again in a semi without our usual supporting countries... these countries play a huge role in everyone's chances...

It wasn't my favourite I prefered Markus or Edgars to win but this one was my 3rd. It's a bit average but I think that it can stand out with a good staging, similar to the NF but improved.

This is absolutely amazing. What a strong edition This was my 2nd favorite after "Flashbacks", and "Flashbacks" failed pretty early in the contest, so "Funny Girl" became an immediate fave for me. for lyrics, voice, melody, everything. This is my new 4th place. . Nice job, Latvia - You're on your way to become my all-time favorite ESC country (2005 - 2nd, 2015 - 1st, 2016 - 7th, 2017 - 6th, 2018 - ?th)

A good run-of-the-middle pop song and a solid entry. That staging however is not your ticket, darling.

Shame Esamiba didn't make it all the way, but eh, at least we didn't have to witness a tragedy for Latvia * coffmarkusrivacoff* I am very much fine with having a half Brazilian at Eurovision, love seeing the diversity of nationalities as well, lul. But that's besides the point. About the song: it's actually good. I can't possibly be the only one who immediately thought Aminata had some sort of relation to this (when we first heard the songs with no singer / songwriter announced). I know trying to re-use a previous successful formula isn't the very best of ideas, but in this instance, it might as well work again. The song has a dark pitch to it, and her voice makes the song more polished, and she's an excellent live singer as well. Her red dress is fitting the theme quite well. Again with the vocals, she is controlling it really well, and surely can use it however she want and it would still fit the song. In conclusion, it wasn't the best choice Latvia had, but it wasn't the worst either. It has it's positive sides, and might as well still work in Lisbon. In a sea of mediocre songs, Latvia did a splendid choice. Good job
