My Top 4 (January 30, 2018) Reviews and predictions ALBANIA (Eugent Bushpepa - "Mall") - / (+0)
As time goes by, I'm just loving this more, and I'm starting to believe this could become Albania's most successful entry ever. So strong, and what a voice! Eugent blew me away, and one month after hearing it for the first time, it's still amazing! I also made a Hebrew version for this song, and I'm wondering what I should do with it. I give this top 15. (Although, I believe this could stay in my top 1 on May 12th) FRANCE (Madame Monsieur - "Mercy") - 8ts / (NEW!)Madame Monsieur - Mercy at first sounded like the most French thing they could find, but apparently there's more to it than just being French. It's beautiful and matches precisely the genre I'm looking for. The only con I can find here is that last "Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, je vais bien merci" part. Repetitive, and might turn off the average listener. I give this top 15. CZECHIA (Mikolas Josef - "Lie to Me") - / (NEW!)
This is cool. I don't get the hate. This almost sounds non-European. It's pretty nice overall and the beat is lit af. This started to look like a REALLY, REALLY GOOD year... Until I heard the 4th song. I give this qualification to the final, possibly breaking the Czech record (narrowly, though.)
SPAIN (Alfred & Amaia - "Tu Canción") - / (NEW!)
Oof. What a bad choice. There are so many talents in Spain. And I really want them to succeed after a 3-year streak of results that don't match the potential of this country's singers. I just felt so disappointed when I heard this for the first time. This is no improvement. After three very good ESC-season-starter songs, I'm pretty let down. I give this bottom two.
