Catchy song but the singing is really annoying. Hopefully it'll sound better live

It’s actually funny because I had heard of Tulia before they were announced as the Eurovision act. I participate in a few online song contests that aren't in this forum, and someone entered one of their songs. It was wildly different -- and in that contest, being different is a good thing. On to the song! The best parts: it brings something completely different to the contest. No, maybe not Russia 2013 different. Definitely not a replication of Poland 2014, either. But we have never heard something quite like this in Eurovision before. It will stick out, and with clever staging the song may squeeze through to the Final. The problems: to a non-native’s ear (maybe to everyone's ear?), white noise sounds like constant shouting. The tone of the song, altering between minor and major key changes, leaves more questions than answers if you’re into interpreting the message. My first reaction to this song was not good; I thought perhaps Poland were saving themselves for JESC 2019 funding by sending a hold-over entry. Looking up the Polish lyrics translation, it has a very literal connection between the depression of hearts going cold, to the optimism that love can ignite fires inside us. Does that come across instrumentally? Not really; it’s got this driving guitar riff thing during verses that you often hear in hard rock songs. And there’s the dubious line “Love me now, love me now, harder and harder” in the final fifteen seconds. Therefore, is it a relatable entry? Nope. But a part of me is glad that I’m writing this review after hearing and watching the performance from this weekend in Amsterdam. Maybe someone who was there can chime in? They sounded bright, fun, and truly do represent something magical - you can see the “love” and feel the happiness. It’s got an ‘x factor’ that makes me believe ultimately that this is one of those black horse entries that people are automatically downgrading due to how different and odd it is at first glance. It was enough for me to swap its ranking last-minute with another entry, so I’m feeling quite good about Poland despite only rating it a 7 and my ranking of 27th (out of 41). I dunno. Maybe it’s the 25% Polish in me.

I’m in favor of every country doing something more ethnic and especially Poland had so many potential if used well imo. And they actually used it! Amazing song, I don’t mind their voices and am surprised how well the English parts blend in. Also I’m pretty sure with their singing style that it will sound even better live than in the studio version.

Why can't you hold me in the street? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor?
