Prepare for a long-ass post.
I can’t really be mad that I placed second since I gave my
to the eventual winner. It’s bittersweet because my winner is the true winner, which I’m happy about yet at the same time, I become the first loser in the process. On the plus side, I can’t believe I managed to AQ for the second time this year. And I think Philippines has some slayage entries to come in the next few editions. I’ve found a bunch of great Filipino songs that I can’t wait to share with all of you guys.
I’m very pleased and proud that my girl Karencitta is getting recognition in this forum. She’s really taking Filipino music in a great direction, and I look forward to her future in the music industry. I’ve decided to make her my PP because this is just a stunning result for a musically meh (IMO) country like the Philippines. Thank you all so much for voting. Special thanks to
Kazakhstan,
New Zealand,
Malaysia,
Indonesia, and
Suriname for your
.
Let me discuss the semifinals. What a big mess in the borderlines, particularly SF1 and SF2.
Mess #1:
When Brazil and Croatia borderline qualified in 8th and 9th, then both finishing in the top 10 in the Grand Final.
Mess #2:
Sweden NQ'ing
BY ONE POINT, and
Nigeria NQ'ing
ONE POINT BEHIND SWEDEN! I don't think it was a boycott, Jens. You just happened to be in a very competitive semi. You can also blame the person who replaced
New Zealand in the semis since their
for
Croatia was what did it.
Mess #3:
Cambodia narrowly beating their neighbor
Thailand
BY ONE POINT.
Turkey's replacement gave
Cambodia
, enough to edge out their neighbor and subsequently flop in the final.
Mess #4: And guess what? There was also a one-point difference between the top NQ's of this semi. RIP
Thailand,
Hungary, and
Denmark.
Mess #5: Additionally,
Romania was only
ONE POINT AHEAD OF CAMBODIA.
Mess #6:
Portugal finishing
2nd in the semi and placing 23rd in the final.
Mess #7:
Serbia qualifying in 8th place then finishing in
3rd place.
So basically, the semis of this edition were a massive scramble for a qualification spot. And many shocks NQ's happened in the process.
Nigeria, I'm still sad for you.
The final was very strong. More than ten songs deserved points from me.
Narrowly qualified for the final, only to place a distant last. It was expected honestly, but a spot in the final is a spot in the final.
I don't think second to last was the most deserving place. Could've been higher.
I think this is the first the UK really flopped in the final. It's an okay alt-rock song though, so deserved.
My
. Underrated.
Overall a meh song. I thought this was an obvious NQ in the semis. I know China can do better, so I hope next edition can show that.
It's... different. Like China, I'm surprised it qualified, but I understand the appeal.
For once, it's what she deserves. Antonia's new songs are not my cup of tea, so I'm glad she's not overrated this time.
It was a strong final, so I think this was a little forgotten.
My
. Finland's NNMC entries have generally been great, "Pornoo" included. I'm shocked to see it so low tbh.
UNDERRATED! This was my
, and it doesn't deserve 21st.
I also think this is underrated despite me giving it
. It came close to getting points though.
Hmm... it's okay. It deserves a middle-of-the-pack spot, which it did. Indifferent overall.
My favorite MV of the edition. I'm obsessed by the constant looping of the clips in the music video, especially when she does her hairflip. Still shook she was pregnant.
My
. For your first time in the final, you did very well, and I'm proud.
Still shook Ashley? I'm just as amazed that a campy Italian party song did so well.
Notice that the
ESC Big 5 are all in the bottom half. I think that's a first. Is it also a first that we got all five countries in the final?
The requested timeslot change really helped me grow to like this song. Deserved spot.
My
. This grew on me the most this edition. After initially dismissing it as a trashy rock song, I grew to enjoy the gritty and erotic sound. Hot.
This was in contention to win at one point early in the voting, and I wouldn't have been mad seeing it in the top 3, but well... you got lucky 13!
As the only "-stan" country, you represented your region well. I'm not mad at this placing 12th, though I know a few other songs could've surpassed you.
Honestly, I've been waiting for this kind of song from Slovakia for so long because I knew it would have a stronger chance than your past entries
combined. Look what happened. 11th place is a amazing!
This is such a heavy and quirky ballad. My favorite part was the thunderous piano track. It went so well for an otherwise boring ballad, and that's why it got
from me. I'm happy you placed in the top 10.
Honestly, this is one of two overrated entries for me in the final. I don't think top 10 is what I envisioned for you, but well done for showing us Swiss slayage once again. When are you gonna win?
The other overrated entry (and both tied lmao). It's a strong Balkan pop song, but I think it should've placed just outside the top 10, not 8th. However, this is Croatia's best result in a looong time, so well done.
Jarea should've sent this My
. One of the best Australian entries in NNMC history. It's a tasteful yet energetic EDM track.
Who knew Japan could pull off such awesome songs? Though it's not one of my favorites, I like it a lot. Placing in the top 10 for two consecutive editions is a fantastic result for Japan. Congrats, Vuka!
My
. There's the Belgium we knew from earlier this year
not like that flop Stromae.
I actually didn't expect Canada to place 4th again. At least you didn't lose a tie this time. Just two points. It's a good alternative entry.
Haters gonna hate. This was my
and certainly one of Serbia's best NNMC entries. Congratulations on reaching the AQ spot. Enjoy it while it lasts!
I already said most of it above, but if it's any consolation, at least I was the overall winner of the semis winning the most points.
If I wasn't meant to win, at least I lost to my
. Everyone knew the moment you posted the song that you were gonna win. It would've been so sweet to pull an upset, but your song was so good I couldn't not give it top points. It's Blackpink's best song since "Boombayah," so I was happy to give you my 12 points. Congratulations, Julian! You win again!
