I'll give this too. Not a bad song, just doesn't do much to impress me.

While many others think the chorus of Belgium is really weak, my problem is something else: the chorus doesn’t fit to the verses at all. It sounds like you tried to cut two songs with completely different tone together. I still have to somewhat agree with the people who scream that the chorus is way too weak: the verses are indeed much better, which make the chorus and the change coming with it even more frustrating. All after all it’s a for me

Why can't you hold me in the street? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor?

Yeah. This is the song that started out highest in my ranking, and has fallen the most since. Part of it was the anticipation of what Belgium would bring, mixed with the opening seconds. On my first listen I actually paused the video after the first few seconds and gushed for a moment, thinking this would be some awesome electro-pop ballad or dance song. The feeling didn't last long. Instead it's an adult contemporary ballad that *just so happens* to have a electronic synth bass instrument track open the song. You just don’t get a “moment” - the chorus is repeated one last time with the same amount of energy, instrumentation, etc… the same problem Finland has this year. The video tries to “evoke” a moment of sunlight, coming out from the darkness, but it just falls limp like the fake walls surrounding the all-female extras. Also, the lyrics meaning absolutely nothing. The opening verse is “I wake up every night - I can't find anyone to pray - Somewhere in the light - Changing all up” … what the hell does that mean? In an interview Eliot explained it’s about the world falling asleep and the young people need to ‘make things move and wake up the world’ … WAT. Why, if this song and act is meant for the young people, does it sound so adult contemporary?? It is so safe, so inconclusive of who Eliot is as a frontman singer, so devoid of personality. I still love the electro-synth bass bombastic opening notes thing sound, but that’s it. His stage presence in Amsterdam was a bit of a mess, but his live vocals were generally consistent. This is still high-ish in my rank because at a certain point I had to lock down my scores, but it was previously in my Top 10. Now I don’t even believe it will qualify… and perhaps that’s the result of Sennek's unlucky non-qualification last year. I still believe she had everything needed to do well but the talent of the semifinal itself screwed her. This time around, the talent is still there, but the song is not.
