DNS 27 COMES TO AN END!
Oslo, Norway • 17 November 2019
Tonight the 27th edition of Den Norsken Sangen concluded. 20 acts fought for the golden ticket to 
Malmö through 2 semi-finals and one big final but only one made it. You can check the results announcement here.
The big winner is:
Norway in neighbouring country Sweden with the song "Bannlyst" (Exiled).
Gåte (English: riddle) is a band coming from Trøndelag, Norway and plays Norwegian folk music bred with metal and electronica. Their style has been referred to as progressive folk-rock. The band was put together by Sveinung Sundli (violin, keyboards) in 2000 and originally consisted of his little sister Gunnhild Sundli (vocals), Gjermund Landrø (bass, backing vocals), Martin Langlie (drums) and Magnus Robot Børmark (guitar, keyboards).
The band went in a hiatus from 2010 to 2017 when they returned to the music scene and tried their luck in the Norwegian national selection with the song "Kom no disjka" which came 3rd. This time they returned and "Bannlyst" managed to impress Europe and not only.
The band came first with 277 points, 24 more than runner-up Emelie Hollow. It will be the first time after 11 editions that Norway will be represented in its own language (after #19) and the first time that a band will sing for the country (after Highasakite in #21).
The song written by Knut Buen and Gåte and talks about "small, twitchy children – their problems and destinies shaped via generations of inheritance – are often blamed for societal issues and wrongdoings. The issue is very much a contemporary one. But bad behaviour should always be carefully examined. People will always seek out someone to blame. Guilt and punishment regularly leads to eternal damnation. But not all things in life need to come to an end with wrongdoing. There is a way forward, if one is willing to walk that way with someone."
