Republic of the Congo Entry Reveal For the first time in this contest, the nation of the Republic of the Congo will be represented by an artist currently resides in the nation (Shereeza resides in Romania, and Gaitana in Ukraine), alongside the first song partially in an language endemic to Africa. The song will be revealed in the spoiler below: Spirita Nanda - Kitoko (Eng. Beautiful)1:58+About the artistMusically, the Republic of the Congo has tended to live in the shadow of its far larger neighbour the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While Kinsasha has produced a stream of internationally recognised artists in recent years, from Kasai Allstars to KOKOKO, the Republic's capital of Brazzaville hasn't received nearly as much attention. This is not to say that such attention isn't deserved. The ROC has a rich musical history, playing a big part in the development of styles such as soukous and its slower-paced percursor Congolese rumba, while current artists such as Pointe-Noire rapper Sosey, ndombolo icon Roga Roga and Afrobeats group A6 have all enriched the country's diverse musical ecosystem. Equally worthy of attention is Spirita Nanda. Born May 27, 1985 in Brazzaville, her further education at the University of Buea helped stir a Cameroonian influence into her soulful afrobeats, particularly evident on last year's cover of 'Tam Tam' by Sally Nyolo (above). After winning the Revelation Feminine award at the Beat Street Awards in 2016, Spirita has continued to win fans with her uplifting songs and multi-lingual vocals (she can sing in French, Lingala, English and Swahili).
Kitoko is a song that was made to highlight natural African beauty, and the natural hair movement. Kitoko is sung in both English and Lingala. Lingala is an official language in Republic of the Congo alongside French, Kituba, and Kikongo.
