So I got a LOT of my American friends into Eurovision this year and watched the first semi final with 6 of them and the second with 3... Here are our points "Eurovision" style... Semi Final 1: 1. Croatia 63 2. Israel 62 3. Cyprus 57 4. Malta 56 5. Azerbaijan 41 6. Romania 38 7. Norway 38 8. Sweden 36 9. Russia 30 10. Australia 16 11. Lithuania 10 12. Slovenia 8 13. Ukraine 5 14. Belgium 4 15. Ireland 0 16. Macedonia 0 Key Notes: everyone was in utter disbelief and genuinely upset about Croatia (myself included). Israel had a lot of #1's. Cyprus , Malta , and Azerbaijan were generally all well recieved and liked. Romania was very popular with the studio version but a lot of people didn't like the live as nearly as much. Norway grew a LOT with the live performance. Sweden was generally in the 7-12 rang for everyone besides two #1's. Russiaflagrussia was either at the top of bottom of everyone's list. Australiaflagaustralia was another song that was generally 8-12 on people's list. Lithuania was not really liked, most of the points were from me. Slovenia was around 8-15 range. Ukraine was last place or 15 on multiple lists, a lot of them did not like this song AT ALL. Belgium it didn't receive a lot of points, BUT was 11-12 on most of them. Ireland was liked by the studio but no one enjoyed the live. Macedonia was already pretty much bottom of the list and nothing changed, everyone found it kind of boring.

My favourite performance of last night was Bulgaria As I edge towards 30, in August, a lot of the lyrics in that song feel so relatable because in comparison to my parents, these days it is hard to grow up in a world so dangerous and broken apart. So sometimes it does feel like growing up is getting old/boring/annoying etc. As for the performance, I thought the staging was such a wonderful idea. It was simple but effective, nothing too flashy needed, no gimmicks, no pyro. She really got me in the second chorus as she stood up and sang the second chorus, I just burst into tears. As for my predictions, I got 9/10 in both semi-finals. If I could change anything for SF1, it would be to swap Sweden with Croatia As for SF2, I would swap Moldova with Austria

Okay my reactions It was weak semi I really found it hard to decide who to vote for. SEE YALL ON SATURDAY FOR THE FINAL! We all knew they would qualify but this was a great show opener and I definitely don’t think it got forgotten. AND FLO RIDA OMG Deserved NQ, this was so boring. Uku’s vocals were nice but not standout. Definitely expected result I actually thought he would qualify but after the live performance I wasn’t sure. His vocals were inconsistent and the performance did look messy. Idk how I feel about the staging concept but it is definitely high quality and Stefania’s vocals were AMAZING! I knew this would qualify This wasn’t the captivating performance it needed to be. I thought he could qualify but the song is quite boring and the performance didn’t help that. Great vocals though I do kinda like this song but it is an expected NQ. The live vocals were weak and it was just overall one of the weaker performances. WTF HOW DID THIS QUALIFY? It’s not a bad song but her vocals were the weakest of them all and the performance was boring. Idk how this qualified, but I expect it was borderline. It is sad that they couldn’t perform live but I don’t think it put them at a disadvantage. The vocals were great and the performance were great. Expected qualifier. Sanja carried this ngl. Was an expected qualifier but the performance was great and the qualification was definitely deserved. Georgia was doomed to fail from the start. This performance didn’t help. Instantly forgettable and you just want to sleep through it. I was so bored watching this Albania are my personal SF2 winners and I am so happy that they qualified for the final. This performance was amazing and definitely final-worthy I wasn’t expecting them to qualify but it was deserved bc this is a great performance and a nice song. I am glad that Portugal are back in the final. One of the best performances of the night, this qualification was no surprise to anyone. It was so captivating and was able to stand out despite performing after 3 ballads. This performance was too messy for me and I don’t like the song. But the qualification was expected and it’s nice that there is all 2 rock songs in the final Expected and deserved NQ tbh. The performance felt really weak, and I don’t think the song really suited Samanta. She sang off-key but it’s a hard song to sing. Hopefully she will return someday. Probably the vocal highlight of the evening, wow he sounded perfect! Idk if this won the semi though because that staging was.... interesting... but expected qualifier. I voted for this and I really hoped they would qualify. The song and performance was really fun and was a great closer to the show! I did expect an NQ for Denmark though

Hopefully she will return someday. She won't - I can tell you that already. Not because of this result, but just because she has already been to ESC. That's pretty much the reason for all Latvian artists to not take part anymore. Plus, she has said it herself, that her goal was only to participate in ESC (not to win or something) and that goal has now been achieved. Only way she might maybe return would be as an author of someone's song (like Aminata has a few times), but even that seems kinda unlikely... She's just not that kinda person that would write a song for someone else...

After a good night sleep, here are my thoughts about this semi and it's results... After reading many comments on twitter from Latvian people, I can only agree with them that this semifinal was way weaker than the 1st semi. I guess it's just not our mentality to like songs like "Loco Loco", "Adrenalina" etc., which were plenty of here... What we did like were and . Those 2 definitely deserved to qualify. From Semi 1 we liked the most (the impression I had from twitter). I'm pretty sure we'll give these 3 decent points in final as well... Another thing many Latvians wrote on twitter was that in Semi 1 10 Q spots were not enough, while in Semi 2 10 was too many (aka there weren't 10 songs worthy of qualifying)... not gonna say that I agree 100%, but I can see why many thought so... As for our own entry - well, there were no real chances even before the show. Bookmakers killed them completely (especially in the last 2 weeks or so). It would take a revolutionary performance to beat the odds... the same happened to pretty much everyone that was predicted to NQ. Plus, we didn't really have any friendly countries to vote for us and we were sandwiched between some of the favourites, so I won't be surprised if we finished somewhere between 15-17th. And to be fair, our performance wasn't exactly great. IDK if it was the song or Samanta being nervous or something else, but something just didn't work right... I said it already and I will repeat again - imo bookmakers kill Eurovision and excitement about it.. In sports and other things bookmakers make things interesting, because despite all odds anything can happen and big favourites can fail, but here it's just killing the whole excitement... it felt like the performances aren't even needed, because without them we would probably have exactly the same qualifiers... Anyway, this is only my opinion - don't get mad at me if you don't agree...

And again, Rotterdam gave us a perfect show. The winners interval act really made me feel touched and Nikkie is still the moment as always
Now, for the qualifiers She served and the qualification is indeed deserved. THEY KILLED THE WHOLE SHOW Definitely one of tonight’s highlights I can totally see this EAT the televoting in the final SHE DID IT. SHE DIT IT. YESSSS I’M SO DAMN HAPPY. Her vocal needs to be fixed a little bit but everything about the performance is incredibly impeccable. I hope she will snap on this Saturday EuRoPEEEEEEEEE Whooo!!! Congratulations Moldova for winning the Meme of the year! Ok no, joke aside, this was the most overrated and unexpected qualifier of this year. (and this came from someone who once had this in Top 10) The whole performance screams “go girl give us nothing” and the high note which should be the major key was also really... p a i n f u l for me to hear ( sorry ) I love Natalia, she is really a cute person but this performance (+ K-words) is just not it. I mean we had to lose and for this?? Thank you, next. YESSS this grows on me so much since the first rehearsal. It was really heartwarming aww Even though I’m not a big fan of this song (still prefer this by mile to their last year’s one but still), I’m SUPER happy to see them in the final! The performance was greatly executed and the qualification is totally deserved YESSS The addition of Flo Rida really improved the potential of this performance (which was already great) Also happy to see Flo Rida enjoy his time in the green room along side with the queen Senhit OUI OUI OUI Thank god those rap movements were softened and overall, they fitted the song perfectly. Gjon’s vocal is indeed the best of the night. Geneva p/Zürich 2022 seems to be more possible right now for me Stefania served the vocal and snapped. BUT WHAT TF WERE THOSE GREEN SCREEN EFFECTS!?! I don’t really mind the shadows but the floating one and when they stepped up the stairs??? They looked super horrible. The staging director should not get any credits for Greece’s qualification as it’s Stefania herself who carried it all. Still happy to see this Qing as it is one of my favorite songs YESSS I think I prefer the UMK performance more but they still burn the stage 🔥 This semi’s qualifiers are quite expected but thank god that there were only one surprise as it would be such a nightmare to have more. (except Czech Rep ofc)
This song grows on me a lot lately and the performance is really well-done. I would personally switch this with tbh. well it’s sad to see him NQ but it wasn’t really unexpected. :/ This one is nice and funny but I’m not still a fan of their song so yeah that’s expected and i don’t really care that much for this song so au revoir I want her to qualify so bad after such a long journey but it just really... can’t STAN RAFAŁ BIRCH ok actually
About the final’s running order, who tf allocate Finland and Bulgaria together again??? and also not Albania getting the cursed 2nd again :facebalm: Anyways, see you in the final show where Bulgaria will win hihi

Anyway, this is only my opinion - don't get mad at me if you don't agree... Well, it's not like the bookmakers are the reason Latvia did not qualify. Latvia did not qualify because the song wasn't popular and like you said the performance wasn't that good. I admit that in this year's semifinals the bookmakers were pretty good. But there were still surprises like e.g. Croatia. But favorites can fail and there are still big surprises the bookmakers did not predict (e.g. Norway televoting, North Macedonia jury 2019). And obviously the performances are needed. However, the bookmakers and many betters know which performances will most likely be good after the rehearsals start. So the performances heavily influence the odds, but the odds obviously don't make the performances obsolete. It's true that Eurovision results are probably more exciting, if you only watch the shows and not know anything else. But that seems not to be an option for us Eurovision fans. ^^ If the bookmakers being too good, ruins your experience though, you should probably try to avoid them. Don't blame the bookmakers for you being too good informed about the contest. I understand you a bit, but I think your reasoning for blaming the bookmakers is pretty flawed. Plus, despite the odds and everything else, I have no clue, who will win, and I am very, very excited for Saturday. I hope you are excited as me to find out, who wins.

Yet another great show, well done to Rotterdam! Before the show, I was actually much more excited about the second semi final in terms of participating entries, since the semi included a lot of songs I really like and enjoy listening to! In any case, here are my thoughts... Epicness overload to be honest Who would have thought that this tiny nation would bring Flo Rida on the Eurovision stage? Apart from all the fun part, this was not very good vocally towards the end, but I guess the fact they entertained us so much makes up for it. A well-deserved qualification! Uku is a great singer and I really love that song but it was quite obvious it would get lost. The performance didn't have anything that could be considered as remarkable and I guess that this is why they didn't stand many chances. Eurovision has now become a contest where the best audiovisual result wins, so a good song is not enough if there is a staging that is pretty much non-existent... Rip my favorite song of the year before the show. Benny seems like such a cool guy but the whole performance didn't feel as energetic as he usually is. There were some vocal instabilities as well so I guess the outcome was pretty much expected. Stefania really did an amazing job! I am personally very happy she qualified (although I never doubted it) and the whole performance was really good! A solid qualifier! I thought he would have stolen the last spot because he gave an amazing and very emotional performance but apparently it was not enough. I will miss this in the final... Well this guy feels like a living meme to me, he seems really cool and fun and his entry is probably my guilty pleasure of the year. However, it felt messy live and its result is not surprising at all... I was pretty sure this would qualify. I mean, as if Kirkorov would let an entry of his stay out of the final I personally don't like the song but I was sure they would qualify, despite the bookies saying the opposite. I really wished they would perform live. Although I am not a fan of the song, I am still sorry for them not getting the chance to be at Ahoy the night of the semi final. In any case, the qualification was expected and also deserved, they had a good performance/rehearsal. A really energetic performance by Hurricane which I thought would not struggle to qualify and indeed they made it through! This could be a dark horse, especially due to all other Ex-Yugoslavian countries failing to qualify. I expect them to be very high in the televoting results this Saturday! I am probably in the minority of people who really like this song and the performance was simply magical! Of course it wouldn't really go anywhere at the end but I found Tornike's performance really beautiful! Anxhela is a true performer! She was all by herself on stage and could easily captivate the viewers. Amazing vocals as well! Perhaps Sacha Jean-Baptiste's best direction this year? I was not expecting it to qualify and thought the last spot would be given to Austria, especially as I couldn't see the viewers supporting this massively or at least as much as required for it to make it through. I am surprised by its qualification but it's a nice song, so well done! Never been a fan of that entry and not gonna lie, I kinda thought this could maybe grow on me after the live performance but it just left me unimpressed. It was anyway going to qualify but I am not a fan of it... This had an obvious advantage already by being the only entry of its genre in the semi final, hence its qualification was not surprising at all. I just found the whole thing a bit too much, like all these fireworks felt as if they were trying to impress way too much, whereas they could easily do so with less. This was my last place before the show and to be honest I wouldn't place it much higher after the semi final. It just felt all over the place to me and the song was just not lifted by any means... The hand movements felt very nice in combination with the camera shots but at some points they felt rather awkward as well. However, this was one of my favorites before the show and will remain one of the best songs this year for me. Gjon was also really nice and gave me goosebumps with his great vocal performance! I kind of expected it to stay out although it was really fun! I just find it so annoying that the same country qualified with a much more uninteresting entry to me in 2019 but I guess they are not exactly comparable as the competition was different back then and there were other countries in the semi final. Would have loved to see them through with an entry fully in Danish! Looking forward to the Grand Final!

I knew from the moment I heard it for the first time that this would qualify. And when the actual performance came... wow. Senhit has so much charisma and such a queen of course having fucking Flo Rida in the contest is so surreal, I still can't believe he's here! I think miss Senhit will be getting San Marino's best result ever.. the flavour. Definitely my favourite overall. Bland, nothing great about it. It was always doomed especially when it was put after Adrenalina. Not gonna miss it x I'm quite disappointed actually. I thought this could slide through because I was hoping Benny was saving all his energy for the semi, but it was just flat overall. A shame, I really like the song. so this song is still a bop, I love it. I don't know what to think of that staging tho.. it bothers me that you can still see the dancers even with the green screen, I actually don't get this concept as a whole. Nevertheless the song is great so idm. his vocals are amazing. However I also dislike the song so I won't miss it in the final. cringe honestly. was my last of the entire year. He's like a dad who got up to do karaoke at a wedding. next. a trainwreck of a performance honestly, all over the place. she sounded so out of breath most of the time that it's laughable more than anything. The song is alright. Happy for Natalitsa but I'm sad we have to see K*rkorov in the final once again.. like just get lost already luv.. I love this song and performance. So sad for them that they couldn't perform live but honestly I don't think it would change much performance wise! my second favourite behind San Marino. I wasn't expecting it to be this good. I think they stormed the televote in this semi final and I wouldn't be surprised to see them high in the televote tomorrow. honestly I forgot Georgia was even competing. Says a lot about the song really.. queen, a perfect performance for this song. I knew she would slide into the final but giving Albania #02 again is.. questionable. I still don't really enjoy the song - but I like it much more than I did before the contest began. I accepted this would make it and I can see why. A lovely performance in the end. beautiful performance, just as I thought it would be. there's nothing much more I can add here. honestly the staging is the best part of this. I'm not a huge fan of the song at all but it was always going to qualify. such a queen an icon but I have to say I was confused by her performance. it was all over the place and I didn't really understand what she was trying to do this was always going to make it. Very nice performance. it's like stepping out of a time machine : bebe : I can see how this is kinda fun but the song is a flop unfortunately. I hope Denmark will send more Danish language songs in future, just not ones like this please. I'm glad since the songs I liked in this semi managed to qualify. Overall I preferred the first semi-final songs wise but this semi did have my overall favourite, so that's fine. I can't wait for the show tomorrow!
