ICELANDIC ENTRY REVEALED!
24 June 2021 • Reykjavík, Iceland
After confirming their participation in April 2021, RÚV is finally ready to reveal who will be representing 
Iceland in the 36th edition to be held 
Italy. In recent weeks, the broadcaster has given no real hints about who would represent the country, except that it was an artist that has been hotly tipped to represent Iceland for a long time. In fact, RÚV were originally in contact with this singer for the 35th edition, but due to a busy schedule, these plans fell apart. Now, one edition on, they are ready to represent their country.
With that being said, let's meet her!
Bríet Ísis Elfar, otherwise known as BRÍET, is an Icelandic singer, born in March 1999 in Reykjavík. She began performing at off-venue concerts at Iceland Airwaves when she was 15. She has also competed in Iceland Got Talent.
BRÍET debuted into the Icelandic music scene in 2018 with her song In Too Deep, when she was just 18 years old. The song was a success in Iceland, so much so that Elfar decided to enter the Icelandic national selection for the 25th edition of North Vision Song Contest, which was held in 
Morocco. In the end, she came 4th with 204 points, which unfortunately was not enough to win the ticket to Morocco, which was won by BLISSFUL instead.
In 2020 she released her album Kveðja, Bríet, in which there is a mix of Scandinavian pop music and country music. Break-ups are the main theme of the album, and Elfar received praise for her lyrical talent. The album was Rás 2's album of the week for a week in October, and 8 of the songs made it into the Spotify Top 10 list for Iceland. At the Icelandic Music Awards, the album won the award of Pop Album of the Year, and Bríet herself won the awards of female singer of the year and lyricist of the year.
Commenting on RÚV after being selected, BRÍET stated that:
Not a lot of artists get to do this, so I am extremely grateful for being given the opportunity to represent Iceland on the North Vision stage! I of course accepted the offer this time after discussions broke down last edition due to scheduling difficulties. Now that Iceland is in the semi finals, I think we as a whole will be much more calm and look forward to this edition.

Empress Of (5th place, DMGP 24). This marks the second time MØ wins the selection and therefore represents the country in North Vision Song Contest. She is the fifth artist to achieve that, following Nabiha, Aura Dione, Sada Vidoo and Mattis.
