I tried and probably failed and messed up. Especially since I originally listened to the songs last week, lol.
This is my top 20 of Söngvakeppnin 2022
1. Stefanía Svavarsdóttir - Heart of mine A very beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. It’s totally my kind of ballad as well. And idk whether it’s just me, but it has something Disney.
2. Stefán Óli – All I know A very beautiful ballad vocalized by a good singing voice.
3. Stefanía Svavarsdóttir - Hjartað mitt A beautiful ballad. I especially like the addition of the choir in the second half of the song.
4. Reykjavíkurdætur - Turn this around A modern electro track with an imo somewhat annoying beat and too many voices ... It's a very unusual entry for Eurovision, however, and therefore an automatic standout. I can see this song - especially in this version - actually getting somewhere.
5. Markéta Irglová - Possible Markéta has her very own style that I've already had some struggles with in the past - at least as far as I can tell, lol. Here she ended up with a very beautiful ballad - that I didn't understand too much haha.
6. Stefán Óli - Ljósið I found this a beautiful ballad. However it's also a bit weird, yet find no further remarkableness. Stefán has a good voice that I first needed to get into, though.
7. Haffi Haff – Volcano It’s definitely fun to listen to, but I find his voice a bit annoying here.
8. Haffi Haff - Gía A very original song and probably the most fun out of all of them - although he didn't get me as much as others, I guess. It's a modern song, but I'm having my struggles with the instrumentation - especially those bells in the background weren't needed imo. Furthermore, the song appears a bit lengthy.
All in all it's not a bad entry, but like I said about different entries in other countries, this is as well a song that we definitely need to see. Hopefully it won't get messed up.
9. Suncity & Sanna – Hækkum í botn A modern song where for my likings the song title is repeated a bit too often. Leaving that aside it’s quite okay.
10. Amarosis - Don’t you know (English version) Well the song is quite okay. What annoys me is thae change of the instrumentation in the chorus (if you know what I mean.)
11. Suncity & Sanna – Keep it cool A modern pop song. There’s not much to complain about this, but imo the bass is too dominant. Also the that “oooooh ooooooh” part wasn’t needed if you ask me.
12. Amarosis - Don’t you know (Icelandic version) It's not a bad song, but neither very good imo. I particularly love the string instrumentation in the background, but vocally it's especially him that I dislike.
13. Markéta Irglová - Mögulegt This entry is like a balance act between beautiful and boring. Adding to the fact that it’s also a bit lengthy, I guess it’s probably rather the latter one.
14. Hanna Mia and The Astrotourists - Gemini This song is okay, but her voice is just not getting me.
15. Katla - Þaðan af It’s actually quite a good song, but doesn’t really go anywhere imo.
16. Hanna Mia and The Astrotourists - Séns með þér The singer has a beautiful voice. This version of their song is quite okay as well, but also a bit monotonous.
17. Sigga, Beta & Elín - Með hækkandi sól Beautiful song and nice harmoniously vocalized by the sisters. The song is somewhat touching, but I believe that I first need another listening. However, I'm not sure whether I'd actually do that since it's also leaning heavily towards the boring side.
18. Katla – Then again I’m very sorry, but no thanks.
19. Reykjavíkurdætur - Tökum af stað It's not like I knew the Icelandic music industry that well and Idk where that comes from, but I keep thinking that like 90 % of it are folk songs ... And yeah that's where I'm already wrong.
As for this song I find it very unusual for the country (judging from what people normally submit for Iceland in online contests). Personally I'm not very big on it and found it very hard to be listening to since it doesn't really have a melody.
As much as I'd love Iceland to use Icelandic in the final contest, I feel like in approximately 8 / 10 songs I preferred the English version ...
