Guatemalan Song Artists: Alux Nahual Song: La Fabula del Grillo y El Mar (The Fable of the Grasshopper and the Sea) (1990) Timeslot: 2:51+ The painting I was chosen to work with was french painting L'Estaque and the Château d'If by Paul Cézanne, The key word I used was the sea due to its prominent role in the painting, and this song I chose tells the story of a grasshopper leaving the fields to go to sing to the sea, I felt this song fitted with the aestethic of the painting

Empathy - Yaghish Timeslot: 5:11+ Fabrizio suggested five keywords for the assigned painting 'Lake Geneva from Saint-Prex' by Ferdinand Hodler. I consider three of the keywords, more precisely, "nature", "peace", and "silence" as relevant to my choice. On the other hand, I think that the song protagonist's desirable future is similar to the one described in the painting. For a more detailed explanation, please see the spoiler below: 1. Nature. The name of the song can be translated as "Rain". On the other hand, there are numerous references to natural phenomena in the song lyrics. Some examples: "clouds are crying"; "the stars are writing your name in the skies"; "let the rains flow on my bleeding wounds";
2. Silence. The protagonist of the song wants to get rid of the painful silence of her loved one that continues to haunt her. She sings: "I want to hear your voice" constantly, while also referring to "empty streets" several times;
3. Peace. The protagonist asks the rain to flow on her bleeding wounds in the chorus so that "her pain is eternally gone". I see some paralells with this line of lyrics and the suggested painting. Indeed, the protagonist asks nature to wash off her pain so that she recovers from violent silence and reaches peace and tranquility. In a way, she dreams of a nature, which, accompanied by long-term rains, is characterized by sunrise, calmness and stability, similar to the one in the Lake Geneva.

Germany Propaganda • "Dr. Mabuse" Timeslot: 1:54+ I was assigned the painting World War I by Kazama Sachiko with the keywords black & white, maximalism, woodblock, war, nightmare. I chose this song for the following reasons: 1. the music video is black & white (the audio quality is bad though, which is why I posted the audio above) 2. Propaganda, which is also the name of the band, is often used by governments in wartime3. Dr. Mabuse is a literary character and was created shortly after World War I, which is the name of my painting 4. the song's lyrics, the video and the stories about Dr. Mabuse have nightmarish qualities

LATVIA So I was drawn the turkish painting by Fikret Mualla - "Caz Orkestrası" (Jazz Orchestra). And the idea is pretty clear - jazz... So the keywords were - red, jazz, orchestra, music, blues. So I had to find something jazzy... jazz music in Latvia realistically has been popular only in the first half of 20th century and now has gained more popularity in the last about 10 years with multiple jazz bands and orchestras forming in the meantime... but because I needed something that's over 10 years old, I had to think hard... so I did my research and found a jazz based album by one fairly popular latvian musician... If you listen to this song, at first you might not think it's jazz... because it isn't... not in the classical view... like the whole album it's styles are avant garde jazz and free jazz with some pop, funk and soul fusion into it... So because there was no deeper explanation given about the painting or the artist, I did a little research myself. And the main things I found was that "In the picture, Fikret Mualla has managed to capture an enthusiastic musical environment" (which can easily be seen in the music video) and that it "Focuses on the subject and doesn't stick to reality". If you read the LYRICS, you can feel the enthusiasm and kind of also the lack of reality (when you're overly enthusiastic/optimistic you kind of lose the feeling of reality). If you listen carefully to the instrumental of this song, you will easily identify 3 music instruments that are a big part of any jazz music - saxophone, piano and drums. You might even hear some trumpet and guitar as well... As for the keywords, I've definitely covered at least 3 - red (the sofa and flowers on the wallpaper in the music video are red-ish), jazz and music. And because this song could easily be played by any jazz orchestra, you could say that the keyword for orchestra has also been covered... technically. Hey Italy is coming!! I was drawn the maltese painting with keywords: woman, jewels, wine, sin, saint. The keywords suddenly suggested me a figure of a strong woman. I wanted a song not only describing a strong woman but how she's seen by other people. I decided to choose a song that tells how a guy was feeling when he saw a beautiful girl at the disco, the resident go-go dancer. She was the "Regina del Celebrità" = queen of Celebrity (that's a very famous disco in Italy) and of course she was so beautiful and fierce that the singer never spoke to her. But after some time, he came across her with her husband and her child, always beautiful and he's so happy to see her but in the same time he realizes that after all she's also a girl devoted to the family. I liked the dualism sin (discos, naked bodies,ecc) and saint (family and love) incarnated within a girl. Soooo let's present our italian entry.... 883 - La regina del Celebrità 0:59+

Grupo Caos - La Planta
Timeslot: 2:31+
I got assigned the wonderful ' Debate' painting by Sakit Mammadov, which was indeed challenging, but I think this song represents it well, considering one of the keywords I got was 'chaos', which is the group's name, while the lyrics tallk about the instability of the subject's relationship
