(I just wanted to say that although I can already see that not a lot of people will enjoy it, this is a very special song to me and I would dare to say that out of the 32 editions I've been a participant of the contest this is probably the time I'm being the most loyal to myself.) Tunisia has crowned a winner!
On Jan. 19, 2023, The Tune!, Tunisia's national selection for the 40th edition of the Northvision Song Contest, began. Now, after a weeks-long voting period, a winner has been crowned on Feb. 13, 2023. Without further ado, you can now see who has won and will represent Tunisia.
They are Mayfly!
Mayfly is a Montreal-based duo composed of singer-songwriters Emma Cochrane and Charlie Kunce. The girls, who are of a Tunisian, Canadian, and Quebecois background, are self-produced and are at the head of all artistic, visual, and creative aspects of the project, creating refreshing electro-pop and indie sounds. The two young women are proud to push their art forward in the music industry and inspire other women to own their place in the world. Moreover, with their music, the essence of Mayfly is to create a safe space for all listeners to escape from their reality through the duo’s musical and visual universe.
In the grand final of The Tune!, Mayfly and their song "Black Water" secured 192 points and 1st place finish out of a field of 8 songs, winning with a 54-point lead over runner-up Soudeni. Thus, Mayfly won the right to represent Tunisia in the 40th Northvision Song Contest. In addition, with their victory in The Tune!, Mayfly will become the 2nd Canadian-based act to represent Tunisia, after Underher, in edition #37.
Black Water by Mayfly Tunisia's entry for the 40th Northvision Song Contest
Written by Charlie Kunce & Emma Cochrane Music and Mix by Charlie Kunce, Emma Cochrane, Jules Bonneville, Quatuor Esca, The Canvas Group
“Black Water" explores what it means to go unnoticed when struggling with deteriorating mental health. It recounts the personal stories of Charlie and Emma's experiences coping with declining mental states. The song expresses a moment of deep suffering and fear of never being seen or heard by those around in a moment of pain. It features raw-sounding, heart-wrenching vocal performances from Charlie and Emma and a string arrangement that achieves this feeling of distress while giving the song a cinematic finish.
In the video, two distinct but parallel universes collide — one wherein the duo's hurt and distress are invisible to the rest. The tar on their bodies is meant to symbolize their pain, dark thoughts, and the things that are suffocating and preventing them from feeling happiness. Where these two parallel worlds come to coexist is in the fact that both Charlie and Emma’s hurt and distress go completely unnoticed. They both feel utterly invisible to the rest of the world.
'"Black Water" is one of our most honest and vulnerable works to date," the duo said in a statement. "We are opening up on some of the darkest moments that both of us have gone through mentally. We tried to illustrate in the most visually striking and most real way possible how someone can be without anyone noticing or reaching out."
Additionally, of the song, they added: "In a way, we want to help those who have felt the same way as us to be heard and seen and know that it's okay to go through certain periods of mental instability. One way to get out of this is to reach out and ask for help. Although it may seem extremely difficult, it's necessary and will bring a positive outcome to let others know what is going on."

| Ukraine will change everything! |
After a few editions with PNV being our selection process, the Ukrainian delegation did things a little bit different this time due to lack of time, budget and a place in general. Through an internal selection, the team behind the HoD picked a handful of songs (of over hundreds of submissions) to be evaluated by some friendly other delegations around Europe and beyond. The process came to an end, and we are ready to finally present you our next hope in the upcoming NVSC edition in Greece. Please welcome... DAYTON!
DAYTON is an Ukrainian singer and songwriter. He has no musical education, never participated in singing competitions and never had any contracts with producers. Nevertheless, he felt always connected to music his whole life, therefore he independently learned to play musical instruments, to write musical arrangements and to work with sound engineering. This gives him the opporturnity to create his music on his own and to adapt it exactly to his own feeling and hearing.
His entry for the North Vision Song Contest #40 in Greece, "Vse myne" (ukr. "Все мине", engl. "Everything will pass"), combines both traditional singing and little traditional instrumentation with an modern upbeat club sound, which is nowadays quite a popular combination. While the lyrics deal with a girl being seemingly troubled by major or minor problems, her partner talks to her into thinking that "everything will pass" someday. The latter portrays the general message of the song, meaning that even in troubled, restless times, you should stay optimistic in a way that you can look towards the future moments with a feeling of composure, optimism and faith in everything good.
Chorus: "А ти молись милая, я і сам молусь // А ти не бійся, бо я, бачиш, не боюсь // А ти молися, та я згодом повернусь // А ти не журись, милая, все мине, клянусь" (Translation: "Pray, my dear, I'm praying myself // And don't be afraid, because you see, I'm not afraid // Pray and I will be back // Don't worry darling, everything will pass, I swear")

Another NVSC diva returns Internally selected, despite initial national selection considerations, Zahera Darabid, more commonly known as Zaho will be waving the Algerian flag for the third time in NVSC, except this time, she will not be alone, as Montreal-based music duo Banx & Ranx will be accompanying her.Born and raised in Algiers, the capital city of her native Algeria, Zahera and her family moved to the Canadian city of Montreal when she was 18 years old, fleeing from a decade-long Civil War. There, she majored in Computer Science, but ultimately decided to involve herself with music professionally. Her journey in NVSC began in the remote 10th edition, when she represented Algeria for the firs time with her song "Tout est pareil", where she successfully qualified to the Grand Final in which she placed 23rd.She made her NVSC comeback 11 editions afterwards, but alas, she did not manage to make it to the final again.Banx & Ranx is a duo consisting of Soké (real name Zacharie Raymond) and KNY Factory (real name Yannick Rastogi) and formed in Montreal in 2014. The duo is best known for their hit single, "Answerphone", which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart on 25 May 2018, as well as their 2022 hit "Flowers Need Rain" featuring Preston Pablo, which became a Top 10 hit in Canada. They will be competing in the jubilee 40th edition of the North Vision Song Contest with their song "1 Fois Pas 2", part of Zaho's newest album Résilience.Special thanks to Fat Nepal for kindly giving us permission to use his replacement video! BULGARIA'S SONG REVEALED.
SOFIA, 14/2/2023 -- Happy Valentine's Day! BNT selected their act internally for the 40th edition of NVSC.
In a statement from BNT: "The NVSC platform is the best place for Bulgarian artists to perform their music to an European audience. We value the expansion of NVSC beyond to Australia, and welcome Argentina to this special edition. Our team strives to give new and seasoned talent the proper exposure they deserve. We believe this act, who achieved 2nd place in one of our previous national selections, has an energetic song that commands your attention from start to finish. We will bring some bright colors and dark energy to the contest in Athens."
Without further ado, say hello to...
NICKA!Nadezhda Aleksandrova, who goes by the stage name NICKA, is a 20 years old girl who had to start with nothing for her place in the industry. She came to prominence in 2019 during a blind audition of The Voice Bulgaria, where she finished in 4th. In 2021, she placed 2nd in our NVSC 38 national selection with "Upset". But she isn't too upset this time around - she earns a ticket to NVSC, uncontested!
The song, titled "Lolita", is written and composed by NICKA with arrangement by Denis Popstoev, who was also co-producer of our entry in NVSC 39.

MOROCCAN ENTRY REVEALED Following the confirmation for the Moroccan participation, 2MTV made an official announcement today, regarding the artist and the song that will represent the country in Greece.
HEAVY will be sung by ELATRASI in Athens!
ELATRASI is a British-Moroccan female multi-disciplinary artist, composer, self-taught pianist and songstress based in Hertfordshire, England. Her introspective lyricism roots from the vulnerabilities of transforming pain into power. Inspired from her North African-Arab heritage, as well as her undeniable intrigue for uplifting, dramatic and ethereal sounds, ELATRASI’s anthems are best described as orchestral pop embraced with harmonic melodies and atmospheric cinematic soundscapes. “ HEAVY touches upon the concept that just because we seem to have it all together, it doesn’t mean that we aren’t struggling beneath the surface,” Elatrasi says. “We are all going through invisible battles and, unless we mention it, no one would ever know.” HEAVY Music & Lyrics: ELATRASI, Imad SalhiTimeslot: 1:51+ Post design stolen from Sinny
