I hope they're just rumours... I don't mind which format they use, as long as they participate

Countries that need broadcasters confirmation: F.Y.R. Macedonia do have plans for 2013, they're awaiting on a word from MRT. A Romanian newspaper has said Romania are likely to be in Malmo due to good ratings, TVR just need to confirm this. They've said they're "most likely" to be in Sweden, as stated by their new director general. STV have yet to confirm their participation. There's been rumors about withdrawal, and those about Slovenia scrapping their last system of "Misija Evrovizija" however, there hasn't been any word from RTVSLO. It's very unlikely Spain will withdraw, TVE will most likely be in Malmo. We're just awaiting their approval.

The Croatian broadcaster HRT will select internally its entry for Malmö once again. HRT gets critics every year for not sending traditional Croatian music to Eurovision, and not sharing the Croatian cultural heritage. For this reason, HRT will be sending a klapa to Malmö. The method of choosing the artist and the song is still being discussed, but HRT’s main goal at the moment is to select a traditional klapa for the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Last year, HRT was very indecisive about the way of choosing the entrant for Baku, as their original plan was to invite seven famous artists, and choose the entrant in a televised national final. That idea was discarded later, and Nina Badrić was chosen internally to represent Croatia. Klapas are traditional Croatian songs which celebrate love, wine, country, and the sea. A klapa group consists usually of a first tenor, second tenor, a baritone, and bass, and it is possible to double all the voices except for the first one. Klapas are usually acapella, but a gentle guitar or a mandolin can also be added. The tradition of klapas is still very much alive, as new songs are constantly being composed, and klapa festivals are being held. Klapas were always a part of the Croatian selection as well, and have always finished in the top of the scoreboard. This klapa tried to represent Croatia in 2010, and finished 6th in the final of Dora (out of 16)

There is a chance that the country of Lucia Moniz, Simone de Oliveira, Dulce Pontes and Vânia Fernandes (amongst other great singers) withdraws from the Eurovision Song Contest due to the economical crisis. The Portuguese government is planning to privatize the public broadcaster RTP: the main television channel RTP1 and the radio channel RDP would be sold to other channels, and the second television channel RTP2 and the radio Antena 3 would be closed. The RTP is the only Portuguese television member of the EBU so if the RTP1 would be sold to another channel (not member of the EBU), this could be the end of Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest unless another television channel applies to become member of the EBU. No decision has been taken yet and nobody has made a forecast. We all hope that the RTP will still be able to take part in the ESC (which is still very popular in Portugal), but it all depends on the decisions of the Portuguese government of Pedro Passos Coelho. I hope we can have a (positive) answer soon! As far as i know it's not really like that. RTP will probably be privatized but it won't be sell to another channel. RTP will continue as it is. About the non-participation, they say it's about the money, i say they don't care about the festival, they never did, that's why they won't participate otherwise, money wouldn't be a problem

Do you think RTP will return to Eurovision in the future, Jessica?

Croatia are NOW accepting submissions! Only Klapa songs are allowed this year! HRT want to be more cultural. However, Klapa is only a male sung style. Klapa is a traditional male a cappella singing, whose roots are in littoral church singing, and it is very popular in Croatia. Entries will all be in Croatian.
