IFSC 34 - Confirmation Thread

I chose Wrapped In Piano Strings because it is a heartbreakingly beautiful song. This website shows how people interpret it but my favorite 3 interpretatons are these:

doode999: Something important to remember about this album is that it's about the concept of a house that retain memories. Ben Cooper actually said that many of the stories on the album are told from the point of view of the house.

ASonicYouth: Ben Cooper, who is the writer most of their songs and the vocalist, mentioned about how the theme of the album is ghosts and how when you live in a house you leave a ghost of yourself behind. I think this works also in how if you feel attachment to a person, you leave a ghost of yourself in that person and how we're all a part of everyone we feel a connection with. Also, i don't think you have to live in a house to leave your ghost in it either. I think when he says ghosts he means memories, so if you have memories inside of a house you have a ghost in that architecture.

I think it's about a woman who just lost her husband (the narrator) and she is slowly beginning to forget him.

- She got in a fight with her father because she is depressed about her husband's death and he wants her to forget the husband. The husband, meanwhile, is watching this as a ghost and doesn't want her to forget him. He does what he can to make it better.

So I carved the apple from my eye
And gave it to you before I went away

- He loved her, she was her everything, and he showed this to her before he died.

Blood ran into the kitchen sink
Your hand and lives are running pink
I sat and watched you as your ring
Slipped off and rolled across the kitchen floor

-Very slowly she is learning to forget him and get over him. Her ring slips off, meaning he isn't as important to her anymore and he can't do anything about it.

They cut your eyes wide open
And pour into your precious head
My reach don't go that far dear
But please oh please don't let them in

- her friends and family keep telling her to forget/get over him, and he doesn't want her to, but there's nothing he can do about it and he is silently begging that she'll ignore them.

I sank into the sea
Wrapped in piano strings
Few words could open me
But you knew them all

Now I just sleep beneath your floor
My ghost just tries to keep you warm
I've seen the end, I've lost the war
One day you'll join me here just like the rest

- she finally moves past him and gets on with her life, and he sinks away. He can't let her go, and does whatever he can to stay with her. He's just waiting for the day that she'll die too and join him.
