North Vision Song Contest
A new face in the NBU council

Lillehammer, Norway • 11 April 2020

After the previously announced retirement of @garameaning as a council member, the NBU held a press conference right after the final results of the 31st edition in order to announce the changes made within the council.

WHO GETS THE CHAIR?

Since the introduction of the official NBU council, we have seen multiple members joining it, either as permanent or temporary members. During the past year, a lot of its members sadly left their positions. And here goes another: Sinny, who has recently announced his wish to depart from the NBU council after they cited several reasons for his decision to leave, including their desire to shift his focus elsewhere. With this opportunity, the council would like to thank Sinny for all the hard work and contribution they've put into the competition since the 24th edition, making the contest even more remarkable and astonishing over the past editions.

However, the gap left by Sinny's departure won't be left unfilled. The council is glad to announce that Michał will be joining the council as a permanent member starting from this edition. We want to congratulate him and would like to ask you to include 𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋 in your approval messages from now on. Feel free to ask him whenever any help is needed.

Head of Delegation removal

Madrid, Spain • 27th July 2020

Ahead of the start of the 33rd edition of the contest, the NBU met up for brief meeting, due to frictions between the NBU and one of its broadcaster members - the NBU released a statement online regarding the participation of

Latvia under its current Head of Delegation.

THE HEAD OF DELEGATION REMOVED

After an unanimous vote, the NBU council has decided to suspend the Latvian participation under its current Head of Delegation Italix, due to repeated infractions and inappropriate behaviour towards the NBU and its individual members. Its Head of Delegation had a negative impact on the spirit of the contest and thus he will no longer fulfill his duties for LTV starting from today on. This decision was supported by the majority of the remaining participating broadcasters.

An official NBU spokesperson gave the following statement:
"It is with deep regret that we, the council, had to come to this decision. We want the North Vision Song Contest to maintain a friendly peaceful environment where people experience the best that the European music scene has to offer, relying on rules set up and respected by its Heads of Delegation. We are sad to see this happening again after the debacle regarding the Kazakh participation back in the 5th edition, 28 editions ago. Any threat to the maintenance of the contest's positive state should be terminated. "

REGARDING LTV

Latvijas Televīzija, the Latvian broadcaster is free to return in the 34th edition under a new assigned Head of Delegation. News regarding the position will be published soon.

Changes in the NBU council

Ibiza, Spain • 12th September 2020

Following the conclusion of the thirty-third edition of the contest, I, Andreas, have decided to leave the NBU council, effective immediately.
Having joined back in the twenty-fifth edition as the host and then as a permanent member, I have had an amazing time and I am very glad to have had such great co-workers, but as the time passed, I realised that I wasn't able to contribute and help as much as I originally wanted to, since the two years in my council also happened to be my final school year and my year in the army respectively.
While I could stay and help now that I'm finished with those, I don't want to make more false promises to myself or to the rest of the council, as I am starting university this year and sadly I don't think I would have much more time to invest into the contest.
I would like to wish the best of luck to the NBU council for the following editions and may they continue the amazing work they've done all this time.

P.S. Please remove me from all approval messages regarding #34.

As a result of my departure, the council is seeking for new talent across the Forums and beyond for a fresh addition to the NBU Council!

An addition to the council!

Bratislava, Slovakia • 2 October 2020

With the ongoing preparations for the thirty-fourth edition in Slovakia and the recent departure of αndreas from the council, the remaining eight members have now chosen the replacement member after an exciting application phase.

WELCOME TO THE COUNCIL!

Ever since the council officially came into being, multiple members have sadly left their positions over the course of time. Unfortunately, here goes another: Andreas, who has recently announced his wish to depart from the NBU council, stating a lack of time to invest into the contest as reason. With this opportunity, the council would like to thank Andreas for all the hard work and contribution he's put into the competition since the 25th edition, making the contest even more remarkable and astonishing over the past editions. We wish you good luck on your future journeys!

However, the gap won't be left unfilled. After closely investigating fourteen amazing and not-so-amazing applications, the race was on fire between two very convincing and qualified applicants. In the end, the council had to narrow down the list to just one applicant that gets the chance to join the council. On behalf of the NBU council, I am glad and honoured to announce that:

Changes in the NBU council

Canterbury, United Kingdom • 21st August 2021

Ahead of the conclusion of the current edition in Italy, the North Broadcasting Union gathered for an urgent meeting regarding the effectiveness of the current state of the NBU Council.

Following the conclusion of the thirty-sixth edition of the contest, Josiah will leave the North Broadcasting Union Council due to personal reasons. Josiah joined the NBU in 2019, bringing the council skills in graphic design. One of his biggest contributions was the theme art of the 31st edition. We were assured assistance in future editions if needed. We'd like to thank him for his help!

We would like to wish Josiah the best of luck in his future and we are sure he will remain a part of the North Vision community!

New council member revealed!

Palma de Mallorca, Spain • 19 September 2021

Following Josiah's departure from the council, a new recruitment process for the North Broadcasting Union's next new member began. The application period has come to an end, and the council is ready to reveal the brand new addition to the council.

WHO WILL IT BE?

We've seen a swarm of members leave their posts after fully satisfying their responsibilities during their time on the council in the last 36 editions of North Vision.

To be a member of the NBU Council, you must be an excellent leader and an individual who demonstrates talent in a variety of areas in order to maintain the contest's top ranking in its 8,5-year existence.

Our newest member of the council had a strong sense of initiative and self-reliance. Their answers to the elective questions provided us complete confidence in their work and a positive outlook for their council aspirations.

Important Announcements

London, United Kingdom • 30 January 2022

With the grand final of the 37th edition being concluded, the NBU met up in London to finalise a series of important announcements that signal multiple changes in the way the contest will be run moving forwards. These will all come into effect from the 38th edition onwards, with the edition 38 confirmations opening shortly after this announcement.

INTERNAL CHANGES WITHIN THE NBU COUNCIL

It is with deep regret to announce that alexeh left the NBU Council after the conclusion of the 37th edition. We’d like to thank them for their work and effort they contributed to run the contest. Or in other words:

We are currently discussing whether a replacement is needed or not.

IMPORTANT ALTERATIONS TO DEADLINES

As of the 38th edition, the meaning of the submission and presentation deadlines will be slightly different. First of all, the submission deadline will now mean that delegations must either have one internally selected entry or a finalised national selection line-up by this deadline. Delegations will still be able to send lists of songs if they really need to, but must have a final decision before the submission deadline. This is due to an influx of delegations sending lists of 5+ songs to the council that are ultimately internally selected past the submission deadline, which causes unnecessary hassle for the council in more ways than one.

Additionally, any timeslots or replacement videos must now be submitted to the NBU by the presentation deadline to ensure that they will be used in the contest. Any timeslots or replacement videos sent after this deadline will not be guaranteed and the NBU will work to select a 30-second timeslot, or create a 30-second replacement video, after this deadline. This is to make the creation of sneak peeks and recap videos as swift and easy as possible and to prevent any further waiting time.

CHANGES TO THE WAITING LIST

Following a discussion in the NBU council, it was decided to implement new rules regarding the waiting list. From now on, everyone on the waiting list will have to vote in the grand final of every edition to keep a place in the waiting list. As well as this, every person in the waiting list will have to either be an active member of #nvsc channel in the Song Contests Forum Discord server, or make at least one post in the forum NVSC board per month, related to the contest. This is to ensure that active members of the community join the contest.

CHANGES TO THE POT DIVISION SYSTEM

To make the semi-finals more equal in terms of quality and fairness, from the 38th edition on we will divide all countries into 6-12 pots based on their geographical position and their place in the Ranking of Nations. The exact way will be described in the rule book as soon as possible.

INTRODUCING THE ROTW POLL VOTE

From the 38th edition, we will be introducing a Rest of the World poll vote that will contribute one ranking to the overall RotW points. This poll will be posted on the forum, YouTube and Instagram, and will allow voters to vote for singular songs rather than making a ranking. This is partially due to an increase in participating artists noticing the contest, to provide fans with an easier and simpler way to support their favourites without the impact being overpowered. This poll vote will contribute one ranking to the overall RotW, equal to one regular RotW voter.

A CENSUS ON THE PRE-QUALIFICATION ROUND

The NBU is asking you to fill the following census about the future of the Pre-Qualification Round.

OTHER RULE CHANGES

We are also implementing a couple of minor but noteworthy rule changes. Firstly, the song age rule has been altered so that entries must not be over 10 years old.

Secondly, we are no longer allowing withdrawing Heads of Delegation to vote with a participating country as a Co-Head of Delegation, and kindly request that if they wish to vote in an edition in which they are not participating, they do so as a Rest of the World voter.

DRAW FOR AZERBAIJAN AND BELARUS

Following the departures of their respective players, Azerbaijan and Belarus will be going up for a draw shortly after the edition 37 grand final results. Stay tuned!

ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES

As of the 38th edition, an alteration of the entries submission process will be made. Until now, the Head of Delegations had to send a forum message to all of the NBU Council members and get individual approval from the majority of them, which took a lot of time and was not always easy when it came down to accepting songs from larger national selections.

Starting from today, the Head of Delegations will have to fill a special form, in which they would choose the type of selection and submit all the songs. You will be able to find the form in every first post of the confirmations thread. When your songs are confirmed/rejected, the Head of Delegations will receive an answer from one council member only, rather than four.

We believe that this way of submitting the songs will make the whole process run smoother. As a reminder, every delegation can submit the form a total of 2 times only. Everyone who has already submitted their songs for the thirty-eighth edition, do not need to resubmit them using the form.

Lastly, any misuse of the form (spam, etc.) will be punished by losing a place in the waiting list or getting a warning percentage.

ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE RUSSIAN AND BELARUSIAN PARTICIPATION

North Vision Song Contest has always stood with one of the fundamental values of the democratic world: freedom. Unfortunately, the Russian and Belarusian regimes are currently committing inhumane war crimes against the country of

Ukraine, an independent and pro-European democratic country.

The events that are happening in Bucha, Mariupol, Chernihiv and other Ukrainian cities for a long time could not be imagined even in the worst nightmare.

To show solidarity with Ukraine, the North Broadcasting Union Council has decided that instead of Russia and Belarus competing in the contest, new entities of

"Free Russia" and

"Free Belarus" will be allowed to participate with only pro-democratic musicians, spreading the freedom around the globe and being against the pro-Kremlin regime.

The NBU Council will continue to have talks with Ukrainians, pro-democratic Belarusians and Russians on how to further proceed with this situation in the future editions.

For now, make sure to help Ukraine in all of the possible ways. Some helpful links:
