Bülent Özveren, the Turkish Eurovision commentator and a worker in TRT since 49 years in an interview:
- What do you think about the non-participation of Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest?
There are points where I agree. TRT is right by saying that it's unfair that the Big 5 is directly qualified to the final. But if you would react without complaining, without having a power behind you, they would say "We're sorry". They say: "It would be good if Turkey will participate". There are also rules of FIFA. If you are participating then you should accept the rules.
- Should we be in the game?
Yes for everything. There is an another problem too. We don't participate so why we don't broadcast it? I couldn't watch it this year for example. The Turks love this competition. Don't take this from us away. TRT had always a number one rating position each year and that was with the Eurovision Song Contest. They lost that too. They started a gay talk in the last months. I see as many gays there as I see them on the streets. And that don't care TRT.
- Will we return to the competition?
I think that Eurovision is over for Turkey. If TRT will say someday that they don't want to be the broadcaster or if there will be a new Head of Delegation then maybe.
From next Sunday on TRT will show all Eurovision songs from 1975 on. A possible return?
