Official Evämaian Party Lines
Below is a summary of the positions of the eight main political parties of Evämaa. A brief explanation of each issue follows the table. A copy of this post is prepared and sent to every citizen of Evämaa in the country and around Fantasia ahead of the election to ensure an informed electorate.
Northern Union Membership: Most main political parties want to maintain Evämaa’s membership in the alliance, the anti-globalist parties are the only ones who oppose it. Puolustajianen promises a referendum on membership should they become part of the ruling coalition.
Popular support: 68% Remain, 27% Leave, 5% Unsure
Currency Change: The most discussed issue of the election, only the center-left supports adopting the Nordos; ruling party Vasakollektiivit came out against the change in order to maintain stability and allow Evämaians’ money to be unaffected.
Popular support: 63% No, 30% Yes, 7% Unsure
Military Ǩ Increase: One of the most popular pieces of minority legislation to make it through the Maidentalo last term was a further increase in defense spending and an expansion of conscription. Only Vasakollektiivit, Avata ja Vapaa, and Siirtolainitääni are opposed, and all three cite alternative measures to invest in the military more.
Popular Support: 78% Yes, 18% No, 4% Unsure
Participation in Valvet Crisis: In a move that would break Evämaa’s long-standing tradition of neutrality, the center-right seeks to establish an interventionist precedent by sending Evämaian forces to help countries affected by the actions of Valvet terrorists. 98 Arvotit cites the inhumanity of the terrorists’ actions as reason to act.
Popular Support: 47% Yes, 44% No, 9% Unsure
Immigration Quotas: As more people around Fantasia are displaced, Evämaa’s immigration numbers have been increasing, as the country’s reputation for security and stability is global. The right-wing seeks to impose caps on the number of immigrants for the first time ever, with Puolustajianen saying that it's imperative to do so in order to reduce the possibility of a severe terrorist attack in Evämaa.
Popular Support: 56% No, 46% Yes, 8% Unsure
Environmental Regulations: Although Evämaa is not as susceptible to climate change as other countries, the government has frequently sought to protect nature, and this election cycle is no different, as most main parties support tightening regulations. Rautakilpi, one of the objectors, says that the country’s people need more regulation than the country itself.
Popular Support: 61% Yes, 36% No, 3% Unsure
Establish Student Grants: While postsecondary education has always been free in Evämaa, Vasakollektiivit proposed study grants for all students last term. However, only they and Siirtolainitääni have supported the spending increases necessary to establish them.
Popular Support: 62% No, 31% Yes, 7% Unsure
Term Limits: Members of the Maidentalo have long term limits; up to six election cycles, or 12 years. The left introduced a bill to lower that to four years. Evämaen Edistymis legislators drafted the bill and said that it was time the Maidentalo was as reigned in as the President.
Popular Support: 78% Yes, 19% No, 4% Unsure
In addition, three amendments to the Evämaian Constitution were introduced last session. Each would need to be approved by two-thirds of the Maidentalo and then confirmed with a national referendum, which must be held within a month of the Maidentalo’s passing:
Protections for Trans People: The language of the constitution would be updated to ensure protections for people regardless of gender identity and would make all language gender neutral. Only the right-wing is against the changes, with 98 Arvotit saying that it would be a waste of time and that Evämaian trans and non-binary people are some of the safest in all of Fantasia. Meanwhile, this has been the third year in a row that hate crimes have been reported to rise.
Popular Support: 51% Yes, 48% No, 2% Unsure
Greater Presidential Powers: Certain powers would be transferred from the Maidentalo to the President, such as cabinet appointment and military command. The centrist parties argue that it would bring Evämaa more in line with other nations, while the most vocal critics, Avata ja Vapaa, say that it would undermine the intentions of the original Evämaian governors.
Popular Support: 37% No, 33% Yes, 30% Unsure
Establish State Atheism: Rautakilpi's most successful proposal from the last session was an amendment that would officially make Evämaa a non-religious state. As one of Fantasia’s least-religious countries, proponents argue it would solidify the country as a bastion of reason, with Paasi saying it would be symbolic and a bold message supporting science.
Popular Support: 62% No, 43% Yes, 5% Unsure
