WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES
Insomnia Zenbu Kimi no Sei da 3:08+
This week, we were all assigned the challenge of sending a song relating to isolation or loneliness. Both of these things are commonly associated with being alone. This pandemic has exasperated these feelings across the world, with restricions on travelling, get togethers, and exasperating the worsening mental health states of many people across the world. Quarantine has ruined so many mental states, caused many people to see the nihilistic state of the world, and much more. This time is also one of the most contentious times in recorded history, with the extremely tight election in the United States, a literal pandemic, and international protests about so much. Isolation during quarantine also lead to an increased in touch starved people. As humans, we are hardwired to feel touch and emotions of others. If we don't get enough physical touch, it can and will detrimentally affect people's mental health.
"Insomnia", released on November 3rd, 2020, is the eleventh single by Zenbu Kimi no Sei da (also known as Zenbu Kimi), a yami-kawaii idol group formed in 2015 by rock label codomomental in Tо̄kyо̄ that currently consists of 5 female members (Kisaragi Megumi, Yukinojо̄ Oyatsu, Amanechi An, Shizuku Fufu, & Motochika Kasane). Yami-kawaii is a Japanese fashion movement started around the same time Zenbu Kimi debuted, also in Tо̄kyо̄. Yami-kawaii is a movement that sprung from the growing "Anti-kawaii" movement, as a way to portray cuteness while actively ripping away at the facade of pastel cuteness fabricated by the Japanese populus. While much of the fashion of Yami-kawaii is still laden in pastels, the purpose of the movement actually is much greater than just as a fashion statement. That purpose is the advocacy of mental health, still considered a taboo topic not only in Japan, but across Asia and much of the world as well. Many off-putting or startling imagery is featured in the style, with words like "I wanna die" or "Kill me", bandages, skulls, gasmasks, and images like pills, syringes, and guns to add to the shock factor of the style. Zenbu Kimi's lyrics describe many serious themes, such as depression, suicide, and mental illness. Their songs have actually been instrumental in helping to lessen the stigma that hangs around mental illnesses. The song starts off as a heavier song than what Zenbu Kimi normally releases, with the lyrics still showing off their style of serious issues, this song specifically with the problem of touch starvation caused by the pandemic. The song follows the story of someone wishing to be with their significant other, while not being able to because of the pandemic and restrictions on gatherings with people outside of their immediate family.
For all pain, suffering and sorrow I'll kiss you with my love The day when I can laugh and hug you again I believe it will definitely come
Humans deprived of connection experience a decrease in oxytocin — a hormone known to increase positive feelings — and a simultaneous increase in the stress hormone cortisol, explained Dr. Alexis Parcells, MD, a plastic surgeon based in New Jersey. High levels of cortisol can lead to a slew of physical and mental health problems, such as increased blood pressure. "People suffering with touch deprivation report high rates of depression, anxiety, and insomnia," said Parcells. This song shows off the increase in mental health issues, while still keeping a sharp focus on the grating sound that made this one of their most popular songs a megar 4 days after it's release.

"Try Harder" by Aerial East Week 3: Sign Of Times
1:05+
For this week theme was song that deals with isolation/loneliness, so I chose a song that I've been feeling contected to lately
"It’s about being on the outside and noticing how some things that seem easy for others might be harder for me. I wrote it quite a while ago and have been playing it live for several years with different arrangements.
As the album started to come together, I realized how well this song fit into the emerging theme of alienation. My hope with this record is that people can connect over shared experiences.
Maybe even especially experiences of isolation and alienation." - Aerial East
This song has represented how I have dealt with isolation and loneliness, one of my main problems this year, personally the lyrics with one of my best friends, that just during isolation drift apart from me. I see how he keeps moving on and seems happy, while I feel miserable and cry to Melodrama.
However, I really like the messgae of the song cause that's how I have dealt with it, trying harder to get better, seek for help, get myself out of the hole, I just try to get better and it's not easy but I never give up.
Also love the metaphore of the MV as she throws herlsef into the sea, symbolizing how she is throwing herself out of her comfort zone, as she mentiones this is a simple song but deep in itlsef to come out of this loneliness and see there's a light

In case u wanna read where I took the meaning of song from | LYRICS
You stepped out to the day
Was sunny and cold
and I am quite
The wind blows, my head sways
Your eyes are swell
But you are not crying
-Chorus-
You are beautiful and I see you
Falling in love with the half moon
And I’m afraid
You make it look so easy
Lately I get the feeling
I gotta try harder
Try Harder, Try Harder
-Verse 2-
I like the song you sing
To dye many colors, bright
My mother thinks I’ll take you away
She doesn’t know you are already gone
-Chorus-
You are beautiful and I see you
Falling in love with the half moon
And I’m not afraid
Sometimes is not so easy
Lately I get the feeling
I gotta try harder
Try Harder, Try Harder
Note: I couldn't find lyrics anywhere so i took the time to worte them, so there's a chance some words are not the ones there cause it's hard to understand by the main idea and chorus is there

WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES DAYBED (by FKA Twigs)
For this week, we were all assigned to find a song which fits the theme of loneliness and isolation. I have decided to choose this song because it strongly fits with the theme of loneliness, in the context of depression, as Twigs found her experiences with the condition as lonely. For example, she mentions in the two lyrics, "dirty are my dishes" and "friendly are the fruitflies", due to her loneliness from her depression, she feels welcomed by anything, despite how unsanitary they are. Furthermore, the notion of 'daybed', indicates the person is homebound, thus reinforcing this loneliness, reminiscent of these times especially lockdown periods, as she mentions "possessive is my daybed", the idea being stuck on your sofa, lost by your thoughts. Further suggesting, the harsh reality of living in isolation, which is causing mental health issues to arise, such as depression and vice versa, creating a cycle of depression and loneliness. Noteworthy, the slowness of the song, indicates the sense of weakness, caused by her depression and isolation, creating a poignant effect; therefore, reinforcing the real horror which isolation causes on an individual's mental health. Overall, this sums up the theme of isolation and loneliness, as it discusses in detail how loneliness emerges from mental health issues and vice versa, highlighting the problem of the issue of loneliness.
LYRICSSilent are my heart strings Icy is my body heat Yeah Lonely is my hoping Empty is my sweet thing
Aching is my laughter Busy is my pastime Telling is my silence Blurring my horizon
Tired, my resistance Smothered is my distance Yeah Careful are my footsteps Possessive is my daybed
Vacant are my nightmares Rest becomes my nowhere Yeah Twenty is my vision Only when I listen
Lower is my ceiling Pressing are my feelings Active are my fingers Faux, my cunnilingus
Dirty are my dishes Many are my wishes Fearless are my cacti Friendly are the fruit flies Jaded is my father Childlike is my answer
Careful are my footsteps Possessive is my daybed Jaded is my father Childlike is my answer
Careful are my footsteps Possessive is my daybed Baby are my footsteps Possessive is my daybed Baby are my footsteps Possessive is my daybed

SHIVA KINDETT EPISODE 3 • Sign of the Times
Introverted Elita 1:54+
This week I decided to go back to HMH's darkness by sending this beautiful but strange song by Elita Harkov. The entire song exhudes the symptoms of social anxiety and depression. It is a letter by an affected person to anyone who doesn't understand what anxiety and depression mean.
<<< I don't hate you I just need some time alone >>>
The dark undertone, the weird chord progression and Elita's soft and girlish singing make the song almost uncomfortable to listen to and convey the feeling of loneliness and not knowing what's going to happen next that is provoked by the mental distress.
Lyrics
I don't hate you I just need some time alone I'm sorry I can't stay I'd rather be at home I know you feel the same I can see it in your eyes Can't make eye contact But can see the right through their lies Why don't you tell me how you feel? I'm tired of waiting I want this to be real I'm nervous, observing So determined it's concerning I'm a burden and I'm hurting Go easy on me I'm learning Is it ever going to be enough? I know it's not easy But it shouldn't be this tough I don't hate you I just need some time alone I'm sorry I can't stay I'd rather be at home I try to speak but My mind is deep in thought They're calling me back to earth like I'm an astronaut

HEKATE WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES
Outside MorMor
For the third week, having a challenge about loneliness and isolation. I went with a choice I considered for first 2 weeks.but the song simply didn't fit "Outside" by MorMor's meaning could be about Seth (Mormor) having depression & anxiety which keeps him from enjoying life and essentially forces him into isolation and feeling alone. ‘Outside’ meaning his pessimistic view of the world & people around him. Loneliness doesn't mean having no friends or no one around you, loneliness is essentially having no one to relate to or no one who understands you and It results in resenting the World who misstreat you itself. You can have 10000 people around you, you can still feel lonely.
I really wanted to showcase the feeling of that hatred towards everything in this challenge cause that's the key of feeling alone and wanting isolation from everything that's Outside. Also I sent 2 black artists out of 3 weeks - #connections
Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah Leaves just fall Lost my way again
-Time flies fast and you still don't have a place to belong to-
Lights me still Where it starts to bend Lonely heart Visit me but it's cold, ah ah
-he wonders what went wrong and why is his heart lonely and why he rejects everyone who tries to visit him-
Looking outside, I'm scared to die The sky won't hold light, it leaves me blind How can I find the sun? Looking outside Looking outside, oh, what's the use? The sky won't hold light, it leaves me too How can I find the sun?
-He's looking outside from his room and he doesn't see the reason to go outside, even light has left him and thus every reason-
Looking outside Lost control Hear it calling me The room was small Walls were closing in Won't you wait? Lose the trace but it's cold, ah ah I don't have the heart It takes hold of me Felt a world apart It takes hold of me
- He feels lonely he wants to leave his room that becomes not enough to satisfy his needs and he asks people to wait for him signalizing that he needs time away from everyone to sort himself and find himself as you're truly lonely once you lose yourself completely-
Looking outside, I'm scared to die The sky won't hold light, it leaves me blind How can I find the sun? Looking outside Looking outside, oh, what's the use? The sky won't hold light, it leaves me too How can I find the sun? Looking outside Looking outside, I'm scared to die The sky won't hold light, it leaves me blind How can I find the sun? Looking outside Looking outside, oh, what's the use? The sky won't hold light, it leaves me too How can I find the sun? Looking outside
This song at first glance can mean many things, mostly anxiety but isn't anxiety a key to loneliness. Being afraid of others despite wanting their attention. I feel like they go hand in hand. I hope I didn't hit the mark again as I really find this song to fit the category and if you disagree,I think that I don't deserve to be here as this is my best shot so far. So it's your decision, are you gonna let me in or kick me out?

WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES
Keep The Streets Empty For Me Fever Ray
For this week, I decided to send a more dark and melancholic song to represent the theme of loneliness. I chose "Keep the Streets Empty For Me" by Fever Ray, released 11 years ago.
This is a song very open for interpretation since I have found tons of possible and different explanations. From my point of view, it seems the singer wants no one around her. She needs solitude and time alone in order to figure herself out. As we can see from the chorus lyrics:
<<Whispering Morning, keep the streets empty for me Morning, keep the streets empty for me>>
It looks like she wants to be alone in her own world; walking the frozen streets and reflecting on her life, her memories, and her relationships. The music’s atmospheric nature makes it clear that she’s doing just that as she’s singing to us – this is her introspection, and the pulsating drums coupled with the icy drone in the background reflect her march through the cold.
Furthermore, I would also like to point out another perspective, that of a homeless person. The meaning of the song can also show the impact of someone who lives on the streets and how isolated anyone in this situation is from other people. The music video, features two women wandering through an empty urban landscape, possibly homeless and dispossessed. This ties in with the lines "stream up North", and "people like us", as well as the "one man tent". In this reading, you can feel the loneliness and isolation of homeless, dispossessed people wandering the streets of a big city in the quiet hours of the early morning.

WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES
biarkan aku tertidur (let me fall asleep) Isyana Sarasvati
In this song, isolation and/or loneliness is a sad state of mind. The singer of this song is someone who is lost and isolated in her own thoughts, ideas, and desires. In fact, she thinks so much it's overwhelming. She puts so much burden on herself by having so many ideas and desiring so many things that it exhausts her mentally. It's a very lonely experience.
Ultimately, she wants to rest, because this is just too fucking much.
I hope you are gripped by her gentle yet haunting vocals imposed over a minimally produced track which brings out the isolation/loneliness aspect that this challenge requests.
LYRICS
INDONESIAN
Berhari-hari kumenyendiri Melahirkan sejuta pikiran yang terkubur
Banyak yang kuinginkan Tapi terbatasi oleh janji Tak memberi jalan untuk aku menumpu
Aku kira sendiri memberikan arti Tapi terlalu lama malah sakit hati
ENGLISH
I have been alone for days Giving birth to a million buried thoughts
I desire so much But I am limited by promises That do not provide ways for me to concentrate
I guess I give myself meaning But my heart has been aching for so long
I desire so much But I am limited by promises That do not provide ways for me to concentrate
This breathing has exhausted me I need a moment when everything stops Allow me to fall asleep Release the troubles of my heart
I desire so much But I am limited by promises That do not provide ways for me to concentrate
This breathing has exhausted me I need a moment when everything stops Allow me to fall asleep Release the troubles of my heart

WEEK 2: SIGN OF THE TIMES
"Are You Leaving" SASSY 009
Norwegian Artist SASSY 009 is one of those artists I've always wanted to send to DSR. This week seemed like a good fit, as most of her tracks fit the category. However, in the end and after much deliberation with my various personalities, I decided on her track "Are You Leaving." Perhaps the reason is because of sentiment, as the song introduced me to SASSY 009 during s7 of DSR. However, re-listening to the song now and comparing it to her other work has it clear: It's my favorite track from her.
Now enough of me being a cheesy mess, and let's move on to the song. The song is deceptive, because on the surface it almost sounds acoustic but if you pay attention, you can hear the complexities of the electronic production. Lyrically, the song is very minimal but it get's point across clearly: I wish you hadn't left. The song seems to be coming from the perspective of someone who recently had their significant other leave them, and the mental struggle that accompanies heartbreak. The singer is clearly distraught about being alone after their break up, and is struggling to come to terms with it and accept it. Musically, some of the production aspects of the song also give me a bit of a lonely vibe as well. For instance, the flute trills throughout and the harmonies selectively used throughout the track help build the atmosphere.
I hope you enjoy.
LYRICS
I remember the days we had Are you leaving now Are you leaving now Days go by without you
Follow the day Follow the day Holding me now Holding me now
Are you leaving now
Don't get away Don't get away Don't get away
Are you leaving now Are you leaving now Days go by without you
Follow the day Follow the day Holding me now Holding me now
Don't get away Don't get away Don't get away

WEEK 3: SIGN OF THE TIMES
We have 3 options when we feel pain. Either we hurt ourselves and eliminate the pain caused by the other, Either we hurt the other person that made us feel pain, or we simply erase ourselves and disappear...
Erase Archive
Archive are a musical group based in London, England, whose music spans electronic, trip hop, avant-garde, post-rock and progressive rock. Over their twenty-five-year history, the band has released twelve studio albums and enjoyed established success throughout Europe.
Erase your face from all the sides Erase yourself from love Erase yourself from love Erase it all away Erase yourself from memory
There is a point in life where you just want to be erased forever, when you get hurt again and again and again and again.... This song, in the way I interpreted it, showcases the mindset of a person who clearly is wounded from the obstacles the life is throwing their way. The repetition of the word "Erase" shows how isolation can lead to someone erasing the façade they put on in public, and they are allowed to show off their true self without the fear of being ridiculed by people in public.
"Erasing" yourself from everyone's memory may be challenging at first. Speaking from personal experience, shutting yourself off from everything that just keeps continuing in the outside world is quite impossible. There were times where I said to myself: "What is my purpose in life? Do I really need a companion to fulfill my destiny?" The answer really is no. Just like the character in this song; isolating yourself, or just being alone for eternity, is achieveable.
You know how to kill, you're murdering love 'Cause hurting just ain't enough You know how to kill, you're murdering love 'Cause dying just ain't enough You know how to kill, destroying love 'Cause dying just ain't enough
Loneliness is an unpleasant emotional response to perceived isolation. It is also described as social pain—a psychological mechanism which motivates individuals to seek social connections. It is often associated with an unwanted lack of connection and intimacy. Loneliness overlaps and yet is distinct from solitude. Solitude is simply the state of being apart from others; not everyone who experiences solitude feels lonely. As a subjective emotion, loneliness can be felt even when surrounded by other people; one who feels lonely, is lonely. In this song, the character finally achieves to isolate themselves from the outer troubles, they are finally free. However, this comes at a cost. In the end, they have no choice but to kill their romance, the one thing that was holding them on their two feet. Erase, erase, erase, erase, erase they chant; dying just ain't enough.
LYRICS
Well, you know how to die Deleting yourself alive
Erase your face from time Erase the all of you from mind
And you know how to fall Did you ever really care at all
Erase your face from all the sides Erase yourself from love Erase yourself from love Erase it all away Erase yourself from memory
You know how to kill, you're murdering love 'Cause hurting just ain't enough You know how to kill, you're murdering love 'Cause dying just ain't enough You know how to kill, destroying love 'Cause dying just ain't enough
Erase yourself from all the love Erase yourself from love Erase your face from all the all the sides
You know how to fall Erase yourself from love You know how to die Dying just ain't enough
