EPISODE 06 • WELCOME TO SALEM Welcome back ghouls! As always, before we start, remember that we're not here to judge your taste in music. Everyone's entitled to their own and it's all subjective. We are only here to judge the choices you make as they relate to this competition and the challenges put before you. This week, Miss Claudia was not able to vote. Instead, we want to welcome our lovely guest judge, straight from DSR Season 8: Ika ( ClassifiedCat)! The results and critiques will be posted soon.

Sangría First up, Sangría. Let's hear what the judges have to say about your floorshow.. Ika: Watching this show on the TV must be frustrating, huh? I feel like you rushed into this with a head-on approach, but then that head, girl she was broken. Your song was very nice, very sweet, no major complaints on it… but evocation? Nah. I loved how you connected your magic to LATAM, but the lyrics in any language don’t give me any sort of ritualistic summoning. I was hearing more so mysticism than evocation. I know if you kept looking you’d eventually be able to exploit a diamond. This is a quartz. Love from Ika Junglepu$$y: This was fine. It's not a bad song, but it's quite generic and forgettable I'm afraid. The other thing that's generic is the magical aspect of it. I don't get the connection to evocation here Krampu$$y: Your entry this week was just okay. The song isn't bad, it's quite lovely actually, but once again I had a hard time remembering what you sent, after I listened to all of the songs. Lyrically I don't see the connection to evocation. There is a connection to magic in general in the lyrics but I just fail to see where it connects to your magic type in particular, so I would've liked to see more attention to detail. Angelyne: the latinphopía popped off in this judging panel… jk. but still, i stanned, i vibed, i knew what you were going for and i felt it. it was giving me very much evocation, very much the summoning of spirits and all that. but, i cant be a hypocrite, but i gave sis anne similar critiques throughout the weeks, to change it up a little, because your entries are kind of starting to be a little one note, if you get what i mean? but i still like this entry, werk sis.

Sis Anne Desit Next up, Sis Anne Desit. Let's hear what the judges had to say about your floorshow. Krampu$$y: Once again, you delivered a unique interpretation of the challenge, alongside a really good song. You keep performing on a high level and I love to see it. The connection to divination was a bit convoluted though, it took me several reads to really understand what you were trying to sell us. In the end I got it, so it didn't hurt your score, but I just want you to be aware of it. Ika: You’ve really, really intrigued me this season! I’ve loved the absolute meals you’ve been giving this panel week in, week out… now I want some of this dessert honey. Your song this week again, a banger, a ten. Your explanation was a bit confusing to follow though, I have to be honest – especially in comparison to previous weeks. Nonetheless I got the general idea of what you were going for, and I’m really appreciating seeing an even further diverse range of music from what I’m sure you have a massive catalogue of. If you were able to push a little bit more, I’m sure that these lyrics would have grabbed me INSTANTLY. Junglepu$$y: Let me tell you something. I absolutely love this song. Your run so far in this contest has been incredibly impressive, you just don't miss. I think challenge-wise what I could say is that it's not immediately obvious how this song connects to divination, but I totally get where you were going anyway plus I really do enjoy this song a lot. Well done! Angelyne could not critique this song, as she's taking a bathroom break.

Shiva Kindett Next up, Shiva Kindett. Let's hear what the judges had to say about your floorshow. Junglepu$$y: As far as the types of magic go, I think this week you got one of the easiest ones, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that you did great with it. This song, to put it simply, is a bop. I think you could've maybe pushed it even more and taken a risk here, since again, I personally think this was the easiest magic category, but I cannot fault your choice here. Well done. Krampu$$y: I enjoyed this choice, the entry was quite boppy and you did a good job executing the challenge. After the last few weeks, this is definitely an improvement and a step in the right direction, now I hope that you'll push even more next week. Ika: Mhmmmmm, hello my dear. It feels so interesting to critique you and your work, your writing skills are certainly existent, and I appreciate that. Your song, she crossed the dots very well. I enjoyed the instrumentation, her vocals, everything. There were parts where I’ve got to be honest, it did grate on for a bit, but it’s still one of your better tracks this season for sure… you’ve captured the essence of HMH in this week. Perhaps your run in this season has been brought back from the dead? I do solemnly believe that there’s an extra layer missing here though, that’s my main criticism. Angelyne: you killed. you ate. i have to be honest, this is not my favorite song this week, but for this challenge and necromancy, it’s perfect. you took kind of a direct approach this week, which for this kind of challenge is a plus, but it’s always nice to see an out-of-the-box entry. but, nonetheless, this was a good week for you.

Tess-Ticular Torshun Next up, Tess-Ticular Torshun. Let's hear what the judges had to say about your floorshow. Krampu$$y: Challengewise, I think you did a good job, I saw the connection to illusion magic in the lyrics, so I don't have anything to critique here. Sonically, I can't say I was a big fan of your song. There's nothing particularly wrong with it and overall you did decent in this challenge, it just wasn't my taste. Angelyne: so you had illusions, and you sent a song called “illusions” by a semi-well known band. it’s cute, nothing ground-breaking or noteworthy, but not bad. next Junglepu$$y: I assume you assigned the categories with this song already in mind, and I have to say that this song is really quite good, not amazing, but definitely good. There is also a strong connection to illusion, so good job. Ika: Whew… I absolutely loved this essay! Probably one of my favourites of the week? I read through these lyrics, and you didn’t even need to explain the whole thing because ugly… I knew EXACTLY what you were going for. I truly felt the rise of anti-capitalism through how the media distracts us by talking about celebrities, social drama, etc… as a distraction of facing our attention away from the ruling class, as well as providing us globally with an illusion of success under the system that holds domination. Your song though, it was probably one of my least favourites of the week, if not my least favourite. I just didn’t like it at all, no no, not one bit really. It just felt like a 7UP… flat. Like some other queens here, if you got a better song in general, I think you could be even better.

EJQL8 Next, EJQL8. Let's hear what the judges have to say about your floorshow. Ika: When I say I’m SOBBING, I’m lying, it wasn’t that POWERFUL, but EJQL8…. EJQL8, I still don’t understand what your name is meant to represent. Send me a message and tell me. Anyway. I love it. I love, love, love it. The lyrics were so short yet I felt it. I FELT IT. I am where it happens. The mysticism, the aura, the atmosphere, it was all next to perfect. These lyrics truly felt like a spell was being cast upon me, and whisking me away to the Golem Heights. I’m so glad you thought outside the box and gave us a song which was a literal SPELL(bounding). I don’t know much of you in this competition, but you’re one to watch in my books. Junglepu$$y:This was ... well, how do I put it, enchanting. *crickets* Anyway. It definitely captures the essence of your magic type very well, both sonically and lyrically. A job very well done, glad to see you back up here, keep this up. Krampu$$y: You really snapped this week babe. This approach to your magic was quite original I'd say and it worked perfectly well, I really got incantation from it. And the song is very beautiful I think, I loved listening to it. Definitely your strongest performance yet! Angelyne: i was literally transported into a different plane of reality during these 3 minutes and 34 seconds. i was transported to mt sinai, 1500 bc and i saw god hand moses the ten commandments. i felt enlightened, i felt absolutely enchanted. excuse the f-wordry, but this was a slay. you nailed the challenge perfectly, you presented us with a literal masterpiece, and i absolutely love that 4 you.

Fuhlei Sheeo Next up, Fuhlei Sheeo. Let's hear what the judges had to say about your floorshow. Angelyne: hnnnnnnnng i wanna say that i get what you were trying to do here, but i just can’t. i just think that it is a reach to connect the song and lyrics to conjuration. conjuration is probably one of the more difficult categories to find a song for, but you could’ve tackled this challenge in a more unique and different way then picking a song and trying to make it fit the category. Krampu$$y: This song was nice in my opinion, not the best ever, but listening to it was still a positive experience. I'm not sure this was a good enough execution of the challenge though. I can see why you chose the song but I wouldn't necessarily call this a very accurate depiction of your magic. You had one of the harder magic types, but I think you could've gone even further. Ika: When I was announced as the Guest Judge, I’m sure miss Fuhlei Sheo was breathing some signs of relief and joy with her inner pipe. I’m known to be a Zola Jesus fan, I’ve even bought her CD. Connecting conjuration to yearning for a missing person was interesting enough, sure, but even for Zola’s work, these lyrics didn’t fully cut it for me. I completely interpreted this song in a different way, I felt like she was in l’amour est pour toujours with this person and that she’s yearning for her spouse’s affection, and to get to know them on a deeper level. Still though, I got what you were going for, just didn’t feel as strong as the others. Junglepu$$y: This song was nice. Not the best song I've ever heard from Zola Jesus, far from it, but it's not bad. The connection to your assigned type of magic is okay, I get it, even though you didn't really expand on it or elaborate much. But the whole package is just mediocre, I'm afraid.

Ordgie Next up, Ordgie. Let's hear what the judges had to say about your floorshow. Ika: I have a bone to pick with you. Back in Week One, you sent a GREAT song… GREAT, GREAT. But we all know that The Queen of Mean deserved that win with that out of this world masterpiece. Just kidding, kinda… This week, sweetie you made me want to attend this ritualistic orgy. I feel like that’s the vibe I’m getting from this. The way you transmutated into a snake has so many possible puns that I won’t even make them, but it fit perfectly. Knowing this artist certainly helped me understand the connection of this transmutative art piece, of her being in Venezuela and using her powers to harmonise it with her inner self. I get it, I get it, I’m in the know. Krampu$$y: Transmutation was one of the harder magic types but that didn't stop you from doing an amazing job with it. You represented the magic accurately and you did it with a lovely song. I was worried that you ran out of steam, after all of your safe placements, but I see that you found your way back to the top! Angelyne: oof girl. you had transmutation and you present us with this? amazing girl, you took a really creative route with this and i have to give you props for that. we love a whopper about destroying gender roles, and this had a really witchy feel to it as well, which is a huge plus. Junglepu$$y: I liked this a lot, too. Maybe not as much as the other judges musically, but it was an very interesting take and I fully understand the connection to transmutation here, despite the language barrier, so there's nothing I can fault about that. Great job!

Gonorrhea Diarrhoea Last but not least, Gonorrhea Diarrhoea. Let's hear what the judges have to say about your floorshow. Krampu$$y: Ma'am... The execution of the challenge was good, I was pleased with your depiction of abjuration. The song was not really it, out of the Björk songs I heard it's one of my least favorites. But the elephant in the room is the fact, that I think you've been a bit lazy in this competition. First you send Lady Gaga, then your challenge partner complains about you not contributing enough to the team effort and now you're sending another famous artist that you love. I really need you to put in a bigger effort and step outside your comfort zone in the future, because so far it you're only giving us 50%. Ika: Just wanted to say that I love your personality and your track record here astounds me as a beautiful character. Now, onto your song. When I was asked to take more time out of my busy work schedule to come to this stage and judge you all, I was hoping that my time would not be wasted. And I’m not going to say it was wasted, but there’s better stuff I could have been doing with my time. Your song is in no way bad, in fact, I do enjoy it, but in comparison to the other uglies this week… it exudes a simplistic choice. I know a thing or two about suing, but when I research abjuration, I feel like there’s so many other directions that I know you’re going to be able to do better in. And can I just say, Lady Gaga… I just wanted to have a moment of silence so we can all recognise that fact. Junglepu$$y: Mama what is this. Björk? I like this song a lot, but where is the connection? Where is it? After Lady Gaga you surely should've given this a second thought... Angelyne: you know what? sue me. because i feel like you did a good job this week. yes, björk might not be the most original choice, but you know what? all can be forgiven if the song fits the challenge, and the shoe fits mama. do i agree with the judges? to a certain extent, because i see where they are coming from and you should take that into account as well. but I felt what you were going for, it was straight to the point and i vibed.
