EPISODE 9 · RESULTS We are starting with Alinka Tcheps (Sylwia)!
Ika: Right, so, hi hello. In your post you said that instead of going for an iconic song, or one of their best scores – you went for your personal favourite. And I appreciate that. But that is not something that I, or the panel shares your esteemed view on. Hungary had so many better choices than this, as an individual who usually appreciates Hungary. Actually, I think you could’ve easily won this week as well had you made the right decision. Hungary 2005 was right there. Hungary 2018 was right there. You had two Hungarian bangers on supply, ready to go, and then you decided to go for this. I just cannot accept it. Even 2013 or 2017 would have been nicer than this. Now, this isn’t a bad song – don’t get me wrong. It’s just very mediocre, forgettable and passed me by in the listening. I forgot I was listening to this for like two minutes because I was answering an Instagram DM and then I was like “Oh yeah, this is something I have to rank.” I sympathise with your plight girl, I really really do. Also, can I just say that your reads this week gave me a good chuckle, who knew that Alinka could be funny?
Neda: I've always had a bit of a soft spot for this song and always felt it was a little slept on, or maybe that it just got lost in a strong year. It's held up pretty well, it's a strong, powerful song. I'm not sure that this was the absolute best choice you could've made for Hungary, but it was still far from a bad effort.
Vicky: I'm not gonna lie, this is not a bad song. But it has gotten old very quick, and it hasn't been even 5 years since it's been on the competition. I'm sure Hungary had better choices to choose from – like 2005 or 2018 would ideally work for me.
Dua: Hmm, choices.
Thank you, Alinka. Up next is Sativa Grahams!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Moving on to Sativa Grahams (agni)!
Neda: I didn't really know this song before this week (nor was I especially familiar with Luxembourg's ESC history) so this served as an interesting education. This song is actually lovely, very lovely in fact and certainly of its time. She beat Cliff Richard too which is extra queen points. It's of its time and I think it's a pretty good representation of Luxembourg in ESC - not the absolute best you could've picked, but a pretty good choice I think.
Ika: Someone telepathically channelled Madison Marie Delongpre tonight, which in most cases would be a positive thing. She wanted to see Everyway That I Can from Holly last season… At the time, that was a controversial statement, but someone finally has the proper cunt to get a winner here, no matter what the critiques may be. I know we have a love, hate relationship, and this time it is going to love. Haha you really thought, no no no we’re going to hate. Your song isn’t too bad, it’s not the worst of the bunch here, but I never really liked this Eurovision winner. The chorus bores me a bit, and there’s just no emotional connection from me. I don’t feel miss Anne Marie’s power. From the winner’s perspective, I would have much preferred you to send 1965, a true BANGER, but excluding winners, 1977 and 1992 would have been better choices in my eyes. Not the worst here this week, but you need to do some plastic surgery on yourself.
Vicky: Maybe I am a Sativa stan lately, because I stan your entry yet another week. This was a whopper, possibly the best winning entry from Luxembourg, on part with the iconic Poupée de cire, poupée de son. I don't think I could have asked for any other entry, although there are a few others that could have scored equally as good.
Dua: Now, this is a BOP. I don't understand why the panel is so divided on this entry, since I thought it is one of Luxembourg's best and you didn't have it easy receiving this country. Still, I think you excelled and I think you are actually one of my favourites in this rather "meh" week. I have to say miss Sativa, your run in this season impresses me, because every time I return back to judge I usually find your entries quite entertaining. Keep it up dell!
Daniel: I am SO sorry but no no no no no no no. There were so many iconic bangers to go for and "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" was a no brainer for me doll. The way this queen is screeching,,, I do not get the emotion in this song.
Thank you, Alinka. Up next is Potissa!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Moving on to Potissa (jara)!
Ika: These judges don’t know what’s coming. Let me start off by saying that you’ve taken a steep turn DOWN in my rankings these last two weeks. When I heard that you were assigned Latvia, I thought to myself… Well that seals Potissa’s win this week then, doesn’t it? I’m going to have to give this girl a ten and give her the official sole front runner status. But nah, nah, you decided to send miss Line. That last place in the semi wasn’t something that ever surprised me – I just never enjoyed this song. You’ve got some cheek on you sending the official video instead of the abomination that was that lifeless live performance – but that’s not why I’m dragging you down. You just had so so many clear options this week that were better, some slightly more obvious sure, but this, now this is Eurovision week. You had the Aminata, you had My Star, you had Samanta Tina for fuck sake. Latvia 2019 would have had a higher score than this, even Latvia 2009 would have gotten better from me, a true banger. I would even give Anmary – Beautiful Song a higher score than this. Just overall disappointment really. It’s a common theme. Step yourself UP!
Vicky: A whopper, a banger, one of the robberies of that year. As messy as the live was, I cannot dislike this song at all. Sure, we could have had Aminata instead but I really cannot complain when I have a soft spot for this banger from Latvia. No complaints from me Potissa, well done again.
Dua: AAAAAAAAAAAH. My favourite Latvian entry in Eurovision, full stop. A robbery which I'll never get, girl, last in the semi final? It's safe to say that this song was my winner in 2017, so I was devastated when it failed that miserably. Now it's time for it to shine methinks. Again, I don't really agree with my fellow judges and say that this was the perfect pick for Latvia. Well done.
Neda: Ma'am I see you choosing the music video over the live, I SEE it. This kinda embodies the term 'middle of the pack', it was pretty good in 2017 but fell very much flat live and got lost even among the other robberies that year, as a Latvian entry it is good but there was better out there, and in the context of this week I'm just a bit... meh. I don't think this was ever the right fit for ESC, as proven by the live performance that you neglected to show us. But Neda never forgets. I can kinda see why you went for this, but it didn't really pay off for me sadly.
Thank you, Potissa. Up next is Reed Acted!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Moving on to Reed Acted (αndreas)!
Vicky: One of my personal favorites from Bosnia, even if a lot of people would probably prefer 2011 over it, I actually love this song more than it. Maybe 2009 would have been an even better choice but Korake ti znam is a great choice too.
Neda: This song is pleasant but it's kinda dull and definitely didn't stand out to me this week, even in a group of just 7 songs. That being said, Bosnia's history isn't especially inspiring and I think only one other song would've done much better with me. I don't think this was a terrible choice, but it also wasn't the BEST choice you could've made and as a whole it just didn't stand out.
Ika: I’m here with you on this emotional journey of constant safes through DSR history. I see your struggle, I see how it’s hard for you to stand out of this pack of girls. Now, girl, let’s have a talk on this. This was a bit of a bore, but at the same time, it was still pleasant? Back in 2012, I was confused how this made the final, it never really clicked with me. I didn’t listen to it for many years, and coming back, it wasn’t half bad. But the feeling of it being a pleasant bore really stuck through in my mind. I saw some people were hyping this up, but I have to pipe them right down. For Bosnia, girl BOSNIA, you had many clearer choices. You could have gone for 2006, or a “less” obvious choice such as 2009. I also saw you said that you love 2011, but the forum hates it. Well, doll, 2009 from me would be a solid ten. I’ve loved that song for a decade now, and I think you’d have stood out a lot more with that.
Dua:
Thank you, Reed. Up next is Marta Barta!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Moving on to Marta Barta (CHAE WITH A C)!
Dua: Hm. This week clearly was messy as I once again don’t agree with the judges here. Voda is fine, but I’ll defend the fact that Samo championi is the superior Elitsa song. Bulgaria has fairly great songs in Eurovision, so I’m a bit disappointed, dell. Am I going to receive death threats after this?
Vicky: I used to enjoy this song more years ago, but sadly I do not feel the same way about it anymore. And I am pretty sure Bulgaria has had a few other bangers to choose from. And if you did not want to go down the obvious path and send one of their very recent entries, there is literally 2011 – the superior Poli Genova song or even the iconic 2012 song from icon Sofi Marinova.
Neda: Well, Love Unlimited was TEN, but this is a strong second place and blew most of your competition out of the water in my eyes. A really good, distinctive song, it slapped, it had me saying "wow, these beats" over and over, the drumsticks were double fisted and I was living for this ethnic banger. An excellent choice this week my dear.
Ika: Well, well, well it’s Marta Barta, mama. She’s decided to go for the drums as she’s fisting it up, and I’m piping it up. This was easily the best choice and entry this week, NO QUESTION. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of your highlights this season. Assigning yourself the nation of KFC and Eurovision beats was really a smart move. Now, your choice, I’m in love. I loved this ever since 2013 when I got into my Elitsa and Stoyan fan move, and this was so good. As far as live performances go, this one far outsold the ethereal being that was Samo Shampioni. But, I must say. When I listened through the Bulgarian entries, there was one that stuck in my mind the most. 2012 would have been a perfect ten. It would have been a choice that would have been so out there, but iconic for the history of DSR. Nonetheless, this was a SPECTACULAR choice from you, mama. She is NOT applying to be a moderator of DSR, she is applying to be Ika Wong’s administrative WINNER of this challenge.
Thank you, Marta. Up next is Indica Grahams!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Next up is Indica Grahams (Syr)!
Neda: Not this... obviously UK's recent Eurovision history is dire (2017 excluded) but genuinely one of the more iconic joke entries from the new millenium would've been better than this uninspiring ballad for me. And don't get me started on the older entries that could've slayed us all. This really was not it for me I'm afraid.
Ika:
This is so upsetting, this is so upsetting. A nation as poor as the United Kingdom in recent years should send something more retro, something older in the history of the competition. Now, you decided, with the emotional wit and brain about you to go with the year that is 2009. A year of sharp global economic decline, instability, and a feeling of isolation. “It’s My Time” emulates that TO A TEE. 2009 was actually the first ever Eurovision that I watched, and I quite liked this at the time. Listening to this in 2021, it’s just a snooze. Her voice goes nowhere interesting, the Webb on the piano does nothing and this just was not a deserved choice for Britain. In my eyes, you had many iconic 90s choices, such as ’91, ’96 and ’98. Three pure bangers. It would have been amazing if you had done something from the 00s as well, like 2005 or 2007, but that was too risky. 2017 would have been a pretty good choice too. It’s not my favourite song ever, but it was a much better choice than this. I can’t believe that Sativa’s gone and outdone you by not sending you the 2017 YouTube link before you posted. A true saboteur after we all know what happened with Sapphire last week.
Vicky: I honestly disagree with the other judges, yet again. This is probably one of the better entries the United Kingdom entry sent in the past years. Maybe a bit too obvious as it was their best result lately as well? I really don't mind honestly, I think you made the best possible decision in a sea of mediocrity that the United Kingdom has been serving lately. Sure, alternatively you could have chosen 2017 or something from the earlier contests as well.
Dua: I... actually like this? We all know that UK hasn’t been that worthy in Eurovision lately. You decided to send a song from a recent era, and I think this was the best option you had. Could’ve been better, but we’re still living.
Thank you, Indica. And last but not least, it is Miss Shirley Sixchins!

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS Here is Miss Shirley Sixchins (Ste)!
Ika: Ever since your return, you just didn’t have the same magic as you had in the first few weeks. This time though, you’ve managed to bring yourself right back up. I’ve had some experience with German men every now and then, and I can imagine heading down to the club and belting this out at the top of my lungs like the slop. The way these three young women just sing in their native tongue so smoothly, with the ease and smoothness of a Malaysia Airlines First Class seat sold me on this. Was this the best choice out of the ICONIC German history? I wouldn’t go so far as to say that… you had the gag of 1996, you had 1999 which is such a slapper as well. But I’m glad you went for a Retro hit here, it really set you out and apart. All in all, what I have to say is… iconic slappage. I need to learn how to pronounce my ßäöü when I book my flight to the German bathhouses.
Neda: Going through Germany's Eurovision history was certainly an enlightening experience and I really think this choice captured that essence really well. I really love this retro party banger, she's a whoppa, a banger on par with Sister by S!sters and honestly I was dancing in my seat the whole time. A creative and potentially risky choice for Germany, but it absolutely paid off for me, great job doll.
Vicky: This was probably the least expected entry from the week and I command you for that. It really is a cute bop that gets you dancing. But there's something missing for me, that doesn't sell me 100% on the song. Regardless, it was a good choice for this week.
Thank you, Shirley.
Dolls... I think we've heard enough.

EPISODE 9 · RESULTS GirlsI have to say that this has been the most car crash Eurovision Fest I have seen in the entire herstory of Daniel's Song Race. Like, ... This gaggle of girls, I would have expected a BANGER fest and tens... But nonononono. I feel like the least of you girls have made a logical choice, from the heart. And we are getting close to the end dells. I have given you all opportunities to shine and give your best, but at this point, I am very disappointed. And the judges this week REALLY didn't help me out on this.
Now that I have said that, my children, it is time to announce these results.
I have made some decisions.
