SATIVA GRAHAMSS8E10 -- "ETHNIC BALL"i'm sorry, but i have to waffle. no real theme but to present whoppers from every corner of this world mawma. we are global🌿🌿🌿 PART ONE: minority languageso like. this was confusing to me. but i think we have to send a song in a language that is not the official language? i went with that meaning and i have discovered something very interesting. jamaican patois, is not the official language of jamaica. it is "de facto" the national language of jamaica, but legally, the only official language in jamaica is english. thus, making patois, a minority language. it is also a recognized regional language in costa rica. i would also like to note that patois is not a dialect according to wikipedia but a english-based creole language. now, the song i have chosen, is very interesting, because it's not wholly in patois, but it has a line in dutch. which i thought would be very cute for a language themed challenge. miss stefflon don is an icon. that is a fact and no fiction. the song itself is very typical dancehall, she is flaunting her wealth, her status and her iconicness. but when miss stefflon don said: " Chat to me chat chat to me hoe If you cant chat patwa then you cant chat to me tho" (patwa=patois)i knew that this would be perfect for this challenge, cementing the fact that patois is a language, not a dialect. "MOVE" -- STEFFLON DON🌿🌿🌿 patois Money house paper Look down pon mi shoe a alligator Ah weh mi live sky scraper If yuh no like mi yuh must be a hater Anyting dem wah mi do dem haffi pay for Fi count my money ya go need calculator Any we mi step undertaker 911 dem haffi call di operated
Get up n move dash weh that Money tie up ina bank but a nuff cash mi stack Money haffi flip acrobat Cah step pon mi cah mi a no door mat Man a dead over mi body and mi pretty features Tell me seh him av a gurl Mi tell him Delete that Any wey u deh mi deh mi eva ready withe the gang Dutachavelli with the semi dus ik weet niet wat je denkt (Dutch)
I’m bad she’s mad but what’s new Can’t chat to me with those views
Man a mad gyal They dont know they talking to bad gyal Heavy plus im rated drop bitches like im a cab man Gang land Run train on these bitches i let the gang bang Cru still keep it cute but a hoe on mute
Gather hoes up like a ponytail They don’t like me but i still wish em well I aint perfect but i promise i wont do u wrong Loyalty before dishonour n ma money long
All the drug dealers feel me The presidents wanna meet me All the girls in the city get pretty they pay to see me All these breddas wah fuck me they dreaming about ma kitty and your daddy hypnotised he get giddy when he get near me
On top like 2 titties Body fluffy it no skinny Fully booked the donny busy Get lizzi then bop like diddy
Neva sticky You a Im drinking im feeling dizzy I pitty u haters really Like billie i do it biggy
Chat to me chat chat to me hoe If you can’t chat patwa then you cant chat to me tho 🌿🌿🌿 🌿🌿🌿PART TWO: ethnic banger
to those who know my complicated family lineage, you know that my ends are multiple. from the westman islands to abkhazia, everywhere i go, im in my ends and of the streets. so i decided, since the theme is ethnic banger and open for interpretation, that i would send from my own ethnic.
this is not my actual ethnic, but my babushka is of the ukrainian streets. and this woman, is the queen of ukraine. this woman ran in eurovision 2007 so that conchita wurst could walk. the ultimate party banger, and nothing bangs as hard as this. get your rakija, get your vodka, get your borscht and get your heels girl because we are going to kiki like it's 1944 "GOP, GOP!" -- VERKA SERDUCHKA
🌿🌿🌿 PART 3: aboriginal so for this part of the ball i wanted to send something with the didgeridoo. then i stumbled upon this didgeridoo 90’s rock banger.
this song i feel truly encompasses the aboriginal peoples of australia. It incorporates a lot of the aboriginal culture, but it still feels like a classic 90’s rock song.
the song lyrics are also very representative, as it showcases the lack of respect and communication between the australian government and the aborginal people. to make a long story short, a statement was brought to the then PM bob hawke by galarrwuy yunupingu and wenten rubuntja, when PM hawke was visiting the northern territories. the statement included aborginal political objectives, and bob hawke said “sure, i’ll make this happen.” and like any good politician, he did not make any of it happen. thus, breaking the treaty, and this song was born.
this highlights the struggle and triumph of the aboriginals. we dancing the djatpangarri mama
"TREATY" -- YOTHU YINDI
🌿🌿🌿 Well I heard it on the radio And I saw it on the television Back in 1988, all those talking politicians
Words are easy, words are cheap Much cheaper than our priceless land But promises can disappear Just like writing in the sand
Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now
Nhima djatpangarri nhima walangwalang (You dance djatpangarri, that's better) Nhe djatpayatpa nhima gaya' nhe marrtjini yakarray (You're dancing, you improvise, you keep going, wow) Nhe djatpa nhe walang gumurrt jararrk gutjuk (You dance djatpangarri, that's good my dear paternal grandson)
This land was never given up This land was never bought and sold The planting of the union jack Never changed our law at all Now two river run their course Seperated for so long I'm dreaming of a brighter day When the waters will be one
Treaty yeah, treaty now, treaty yeah, treaty now
Nhima gayakaya nhe gaya' nhe (You improvise, you improvise) Nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini walangwalang nhe ya (You improvise, you keep going, you're better) Nhima djatpa nhe walang (You dance djatpangarri, that's good) Gumurr-djararrk yawirriny' (My dear young men) Nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini gaya' nhe marrtjini (You improvise, you keep improvising, you keep going) Gayakaya nhe gaya' nhe marrtjini walangwalang (Improvise, you improvise, you keep going, that's better) Nhima djatpa nhe walang (You dance djatpangarri, that's good) Gumurr-djararrk nhe yå, e i, e i, e i i i, i i i, i i i, i i (You dear things) Treaty ma' (Treaty now)
Promises disappear - priceless land - destiny Well I heard it on the radio And I saw it on the television But promises can be broken Just like writing in the sand
Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now Treaty yeah treaty now treaty yeah treaty now Treaty yeah treaty ma treaty yeah treaty ma Treaty yeah treaty ma treaty yeah treaty ma 🌿🌿🌿

POTISSA "Ethnic Ball"
Pozdrav pičke! My name is Potissa and I'll be your tour guide for this trip. Today, we will be traveling across several Slavic countries and look at them through a musical lens. Don't forget your passports!
A song in a minority language Starting off our trip are the West Slavs, consisting of Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. This subgroup of Slavic countries is home to several different languages and ethnicities. In the Northeastern part of Slovakia live the Rusyns. Rusyn is a minority language recognised in all of the West Slavic countries, but is also recognised in Serbia and Hungary. Slovakia is home to a significant population of Rusyns with 33,482 Rusyns living in the country. However, there are several theories about the nature of the Rusyn language, as some claim that it's a distinct language, while others claim that it's a dialect of Ukranian. The song Štefan is a traditional Rusyn folk song. The song talks about a girl who falls in love with a man named Štefan and begs her mum to let her marry him. The Rusyn-Slovak folk band Hrdza have adapted the song into an upbeat, lively Slavic banger. Get up on your feet and dance ladies!
Hrdza - "Štefan / Штефан"
Štefan
Poľubyla ja Štefana
Poľubyla-m joho, lem joho, lem joho
Dajte ňa, mamyčko, dajte ňa za ňoho
Dajte ňa za ňoho!
Heja-hoja, heja, heja, hoja
Vydajte ňa, mamko moja!
Jak na mene vin pohľane
To ja až zomľiju, zomľiju, zomľiju
Ja joho čekala – skazaty ne vmiju
Skazaty ne vmiju!
Heja-hoja, heja, heja, hoja
Vydajte ňa, mamko moja!
Bo ja sobi, ľuba mamko
Lem joho vybrala, vybrala, vybrala
Bo ja inčych chlopciv ľubyty ne znala
Ľubyty ne znala
Heja-hoja, heja, heja, hoja
Vydajte ňa, mamko moja!
Vydavajte sia ďivčata
Jak vas chlopci prosiat, jak prosiat, jak prosiat
Naj vas zly jazyky v seli ne roznosiat
V seli ne roznosiat!
Heja-hoja, heja, heja, hoja
Vydajte ňa, mamko moja!
Stephen
I fell in love with Stephen
I fell in love just with him
Let me, mummy, marry him!
Heya, hoya, heya, heya, hoya
Let me marry, my mum!
When he looks at me I faint
How long I‘ve been waiting for him
I can’t say!
Because I have, dear mummy
Chosen just him
Because I couldn’t fell in love
With any other boys
Marry, girls, when boys propose to you
Let not bad tongues
Slander you in the village!
An ethnic party banger Travelling down south, we arrive at the South Slavic countries. The South Slavs inhabit a big part of the Balkan peninsula. Here, we also find my country; Slovenia! The South Slavs consist of a lot of countries, and they are Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Now, the South Slavs know how to party. They know how to have a proper gaggle. And there is no better music genre to party to than turbo-folk. The term is originally coined by Montenegrin singer Rambo Amadeus to describe his own music style, however it has since been used as a term to describe the blend of Serbian folk music and pop, rock, club, electronic or hip-hop music. Now, when we talk about turbo-folk and ethnic bangers, there is only one name that comes to mind. Jelena. Fucking. Karleuša. A diva, icon, legend, Serbian superstar, fashionista, LGBT rights advocate, one of the biggest South Slav celebrities and an overall queen. Come on now, she is the moment! Now, there are a lot of songs from her discography that can be described as an ethnic banger. But one song that i think embodies the definition of an ethnic banger is Ostavljam Te, featuring Bulgarian singer and non-binary icon Azis. The song is a more modern version of turbo-folk, combining traditional Serbian folk elements with club music. The song features traditional elements and also has Azis singing with a unique vocal technique which is traditional to Bulgaria. Pin down your wigs, grab a drink and get ready to party to the infectious beat of Ostavljam Te! Jelena Karleuša ft. Azis - "Ostavljam Te"
Ostavljam te zadnji put
Izlazim iz tajnosti
Predugo me kriješ ti
Od očiju javnosti
Predugo me kriješ
Predugo me kriješ
Predugo me predugo me kriješ
Rokaću šampamjac uz antidepresive
A ti budi srećan ako me ožive
Kada me u život nekim čudom vrate
Ti budi čovek pa isključi aparate

I'm Leaving You
I'm leaving you for the last time
I am getting out of the incognito
You have been hiding me for too long
From the public eye
You have been hiding me for too long
You have been hiding me for too long
You have been hiding me for too long
I will drink champagne and mix it with anti-depressants
And you, be happy if they revive me
When they bring me back to life by some miracle
You be a man and pull the plugs
pull the plugs
pull the plugs
yeah, yeah
pull the plugs
pull the plugs
pull the plugs
pull the plugs
I'm leaving you for the last time
I am getting out of the incognito
You have been hiding me for too long
From the public eye
I'm leaving you for the last time
I am getting out of the incognito
You have been hiding me for too long
From the public eye
Habibi...
I will walk on a highway in the middle of the night
The one who runs over me first shouldn't call for help
When they bring me back to life by some miracle
You be a man and pull the plugs
You have been hiding me for too long
You have been hiding me for too long
You have been hiding me for too long
I'm leaving you for the last time
I am getting out of the incognito
You have been hiding me for too long
From the public eye
I'm leaving you for the last time
I am getting out of the incognito
You have been hiding me for too long
From the public eye
I'm leaving
I'm leaving you
Send a song representing the culture that was assigned to you.Our last stop on our journey are the East Slavic countries, consisting of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. And now it's time for a lesson on Slavic folklore. Witches play a big part in Slavic folklore. One of the most known witchlike figures is Baba Yaga, who is a supernatural being who often appears as a deformed or ferocious-looking old woman. It was believed that witches lived on walnut trees and that they were capable of transforming into different animals. They also ate human hearts and children. Morbid, I know. A song that talks about Slavic witches is the song Bosorkanya by Ukranian singer Alina Pash. The song talks about the Bosorkanya witch, which is a mythological creature in Carpathian mythology. The music video shows the story of the struggle between good and evil through the representation of an angel and a devil. Ooky spooky! Alina Pash - "Bosorkanya"
For God sake, my daughter
Where the hell have you been
My mother told me
It's love, go, for you've nothing to lose ( you're barefoot)
And I know very well
That this was never on (was not meant to be)
From Saturday to Sunday
I brewed roots in a cauldron (potion)
Neighbors crossed themselves over and over
When I carried an empty bucket across the road
Neighbors were afraid of my black magic art
Because I had five black cats around my hut
In the garden hemp grows
Sometimes high, sometimes low
Is there such a trouble for everyone
As for a young girl like me
If I knew it's for everyone
I wouldn't anger God, no way
If I knew it's just for me
I'd go and drown myself today
Andrew, Andrew
I sow hemp, I do
God, let me know , please, who I will collect them with
In the garden hemp grows
Sometimes high, sometimes low
Is there such a trouble for everyone
As for a young girl like me
I didn't go anywhere mom
And I didn't love anyone
It's you mom, look what you've done
Because of the unloved I drowned
Neighbors crossed themselves over and over
When I carried an empty bucket across the road
Neighbors were afraid of my black magic art
Because I had five black cats around my hut

Alinka TchepsS08EP10 - "Ethnic Ball" Minority Language
My first song will be from Iran. Komsay is a group coming from Iran, more precisely from Kurdistan. Their song is a mix of edm music with ethnic middle eastern music. The song is sung in Kurdish, which is very unpopular, mostly spoken by Kurds.
Lycris:
Em Katet Baş Gullm
Çonî Başî Rohim Dillm
êmewê min pêw bilêm
Her Toy Dilldarî Dillm
Bibûre lê Katim Girty
Boçî to Lêm napirsî
Wa dîare Atîrsy
Le eşqu Xoşewistî
Bebe , it's better to be alone
Than to be with someone
Who makes you feel alone
Bebe , it's better to be alone
Than to be with someone
Who makes you feel alone
Dawye le Kelem
Kem Kem u Nim Nim
Henasey Kall Kall
Dilli Pirr le Xem
Dawye le Kelem
Wazit Le Bênim
Minîş Wek tu Bim Dillt Bişkênim
Bebe , it's better to be alone
Than to be with someone
Who makes you feel alone
Bebe , it's better to be alone
Than to be with someone
Who makes you feel alone
wey wey wey , wey wey
Ethnic Party Banger
In this category, I decided to go more to the Slavic side. Onika is a Belarusian singer who also combines elements of drop / edm music with traditional Slavic music.
I regret a bit that I forgot that song in the trumpet category
Lycris:
Don't get what happend before me Stop moment, embrace supreme Don't tell me what You're feelin' now My crazy turkish turkish love And boy You kiss my sweet lips I melt from Your persuaded kiss Don't tell me what You're thinkin' now You are my crazy turkish love Touch my body Touch my body boy Touch my body Turkish turkish love
Culture: Arabic My culture in the third category is Arab culture. My first thought was a Lebanese Singer - Dana Hourani with song "Enti Ana". Arab countries are not famous for edm or rock music but for calm ballads. The song I chose tells about the power of Arab countries - mainly Lebanon. It commemorates the tragic explosion that took place in the capital of Lebanon - Beirut. About how the Lebanese people will be able to get back to normal and pick up on all of this. The song is quite modern but keeps the vibe of the typical Arabic ballads
Lycris:

Marta Barta
S08 E10 - Ethnic Ball
I love balls as much as the next person so I will present this in the shortest way I can so you can listen to this week swiftly my esteemed judges.
"A song in a minority language"
9Bach - Llyn Du
I have selected this song as it represents Celtic Wales, and the welsh language in a different light a ballad that is breath taking. Lisa J (jenn) from 9 Bach said about the song. "Imagine Cwm Idwal lake, or Ogwen lake on a moonlit night. You might come across this deranged and damaged queen under the black shimmering ice cold water. Mama we are going up in the welsh hills with Lyra Winter on the lash no question about it, we are getting Celtic and feeling very ethnic ✨ Lyrics
taken from youtube description
“I am the queen of the black lake, take me, lead me. I am eternally impregnated and rejected, by the Beautiful one. The wind embrace my thighs and the mist caress my breasts My mind... my mind is... distorted... I am trapped... you trapped me here... is this The Voice? Yes this is the voice... I hear you... I embed my ‘hiraeth’ in your neck... you... you who left me here... “
"Ethnic Banger"
Zap Me Strobe - Katamana ft. Boyana
We all love a good bang(er) especially when it is ethnic. For my ethnic party banger I have decided to select the slavic-balkan banger from Serbia "Katamana". This song includes modern beats with iconic vocals in a slavic-balkan style from Bojana Nikolic (Balkan Culture Heritage) This would make Lisa B drop down on the floor in Amsterdam saying “wow these beats”.
Lyrics unable to be found
Culture "Latin American"
La Chica - La Loba
I was given Latin American. I have La Loba, this song represents several topics in present day and in the past in a flamenco vibe with trap influence. Latin American is known for the struggle for women rights in history and modern day with protest last year. Including femicides through out Latin American notable in Mexico 7 women are killed every day , and in recent events women killed fighting for autonomy with their bodies in Argentina. the song is also known for its connection with witchcraft (Brujería), with The Day of the Dead in Mexico, and lots of people in countries such as Haiti practicing witchcraft as Haitian voodoo. The song shows the fight and standing up for women's rights,
"Deja la maga ver Deja la magia ser"
and including in the songs references to witchcraft
"Crece la rabia Crece la rabia Transformo la furia, mi rabia es mi fuerza, mi rabia es mi fuerza"
Lyrics Soy la que manda Soy la que sabe Anciana leyenda, alma salvaje Yo soy la que sana
Me conoces no ?
I pick up the bones, I pick up the bones Loba Recojo los huesos, recojo los huesos Loba
I pick up the bones, I pick up the bones Loba Recojo los huesos, recojo los huesos Loba
I pick up the bones, I pick up the bones Loba Recojo los huesos, recojo los huesos Loba
El despertar de las brujas es real

Reed Acted S8E10 - "Ethnic Ball"
#1: "Send a song in a minority language"Shockingly this was the category I had the most difficulty with since I really couldn't find a song that I was 100% confident with. My initial thought was Greenlandic but I didn't go with that since it's technically an official language and not a minority language. After that I wanted to go with Cornish in order to honour everyone's favourite forumer, but then I remembered that C*llum won with Cornish and the artist I wanted to send (Gwenno) back in season 4 and I didn't want to relive the "La Tortura" situation. So after crossing out more languages including Gaelic, Manx and Yiddish, I settled upon Inuktitut when I discovered Riit. Riit (ᕇᑦ i love their alphabet) is the stage name of Rita Claire Mike-Murphy, a Canadian Inuk musician and television personality from Pangnirtung, Nunavut. The song I chose is from her latest album "Ataataga", which actually was was a Juno Award nominee for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2020. I don't speak Inuktitut (even though I'd love to) so judging from the lyrics translation I think the song is about love, which isn't very unique, but there's some throat singing, which is cool.Riit - "ullagit (ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ)"
(english translation) ᓇᓪᓕᓐᓂ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᓯᔪᖅ ᐃᓄᓕᒫᕐᓂᑦ ᓇᓪᓕᓐᓂ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᓯᔪᖅ ᐅᐅᒻᒪᑎᓕᒫᕐᓂᑦ ᐃᑉᐱᓐᓂᐊᕕᑦ? ᐊᑏ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐊᐊᓐᓂᑦᑕᕈᐊᕋᕕᑦ ᐊᑏ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐅᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ ᓇᓪᓕᓐᓂ ᐊᐊᓐᓂᓇᖅᑐᖅ ᐃᓄᓕᒫᕐᓄᑦ ᓇᓪᓕᓐᓂ ᐊᐊᓐᓂᓇᖅᑐᖅ ᐅᐅᒻᒪᑎᓕᒫᕐᓄᑦ ᐃᑉᐱᓂᐊᕕᑦ? ᐊᑏ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐊᓐᓂᑦᑕᕈᐊᕋᕕᑦ Hey, hey ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ... ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ... ᐃᑉᐱᓂᐊᕕᑦ? ᐊᑏ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐊᓐᓂᑦᑕᕈᐊᕋᕕᑦ ᐊᑏ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐊᓐᓂᑦᑕᕈᐊᕋᕕᑦ Hey, hey ᐅᓪᓚᒋᑦ ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ ᐅᒻᒪᑏᑦ ᑲᒪᒋᑦᑎᐊᕐᓗᒍ
#2: "Send an ethnic party banger"Munisa Rizayeva is an Uzbek legend, the song is a banger, period. Munisa Rizayeva - "Yoringmane"
Leyliya, leyliya, omon-omon, Hayotimning sadosi, hey… (Ladies & gentlemen, welcome…) Yoringman, yoringmaney, Yoring, vafodoringmaney, Yoringman, yoringmaney. #3: "Send a song representing the culture that was assigned to you"I got assigned East Asia, which includes China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan. Haya is a Chinese band and they integrate Mongolian musical elements with modern pop soundings in their songs. Those elements include Mongolian instruments such as the morin khuur and the dombra, and also different variants of singing like chanting and, of course, throat singing (again). I couldn't find any lyrics so I don't really know what the song is about but I think Mongolia has a lot of wolves so.. it's about Mongolia, maybe. Haya - "Land of Wolves"

Shirley Sixchins:
1 - Minority Language ~ Gaeilge (Irish) The Gloaming "Samhradh Samhradh"
2 - Ethnic Banger ~ Armenian Iveta Muckuchyan "Hayastani Aghchigner" (Հայաստանի աղջիկներ)
3 - Native American Northern Cree - Red Skin Girl (A Tribe Called Red Remix)
I feel each of these songs represent the present and the past, modernity mixing with tradition, culture, heritage and how the remnants of the past can and will shape our future. Language is a powerful tool in representing who we are, where we came from and where we're going and the loss of language can be silencing.
