EPISODE 10 · RESULTS We are starting with Potissa (jara)!
Vicky: Miss Potissa... you keep serving. But am I really surprised at this point? But I have to say that the ethnic banger was what had me torn. I wanted to like it and then something was off about it, then I loved it again. It left me confused as to what to feel about it, but it's definitely a good thing as it made me listen to it quite a few times. But now let's talk about the absolute whopper that is Bosorkanya. The best song by far this week. I also have to give it to you for having a consistent theme throughout your choices, very admirable.
Neda: Let me start with your minority language hymn. This is a banger, it is something fun, something for the summertime, something for the girls to get ready and party to and me and my girls have got ready and partied to this song for so long without even realising it was in a minority language. I just love this song, a wonderful pick.
Your Slavic song was also incredible, like absolute perfection. I have also loved it for some time, I am truly obsessed with this witchcraft whoppa and you sold it excellently.
However my dear, your downfall was your ethnic party banger. Don't get me wrong, I love Jelena Karleusa as much as the next homosexual but this song just felt underwhelming, for both this challenge and for Jelena's usual levels of excellence. It certainly was ethnic but this song was just a bit meh, very ordinary, I was just disappointed and it tainted what was otherwise a delicious selection of songs.
Gaitana: I like the folk sound of your minority language song! However, that's all I like about it. Probably could listen to it at least a couple more times.
As for your ethnic banger; when I think of turbo-folk, I think of Jelena Karleusa. I just don't dig it, as I am not really a fan of turbo-folk. Gili Gili is great by her though! This was fitting for the category as well, I can say that too.
Your slavic song girl... I don't know, I just like these kind of songs.
Ika: I think you were the main queen this week to have a consistent flow with your entries, selling us a story from beginning to end. When Alinka said you were this season's biggest competition, I think that's the day we found out that Alinka Tcheps was indeed a psychic. Let's talk about the story you've given me. You managed to maintain a theme throughout which I respect as a player.
I've been a massive fan of this Rusyn song for a long time, but there's no way for you to know. It is just a whopper, plain and simple girl... When I saw Bosorkanya, I was a bit disappointed that you didn't go a more original route for something that should be right up your alley. Regardless, the song is indeed a serve, and would've been more if it was more original. Now... that second song. I have to agree that me and Jelena share some qualities, but this song is not one of them. I could make better music than this. I love Jelena, but you should've gone with one of her classics such as "Gili Gili". I'm happy you managed to actually fit a party into your explanation though, reading is indeed fundamental.
Thank you, Potissa. Up next is Shirley Sixchins!

EPISODE 10 · RESULTS Next up is Shirley Sixchins (Ste)!
Gaitana: Minority language: Boring. Ethnic banger: Iveta really? She is one of the typical singers people think of when "ethnic" comes to mind. I'd like to see another song by her however, I'm quite bored of "Armenian Girls". Culture: It's sad that the highest I gave you in the challenge as a whole is a 6.5, which sucks. I hate giving low scores to people but this song fits the theme despite me not being a fan. I'm sure you'll redeem yourself if you stay.
Vicky: Shirley, Shirley, Shirley... What was this rollercoaster? Let's start off with your minority language song. I don't remember listening to it, I might have fallen asleep halfway through. Your second song, however, managed to wake me up luckily – we love an Armenian banger. Now, the third song, started off good but then left me confused as to what was going on. I really didn't like where it started going, I just wished it continued as good as it had started. Overall, it was just... all over the place.
Neda: As much as Hayastani Aghcigner is undeniably an ethnic party banger, and has aged like fine wine, I really was hoping for more creativity at this stage of the competition - especially for a category as broad as ethnic party banger. I mean this song still slaps and is just so powerful, but I cannot ignore it.
However, with that being said, you definitely gave us more creativity with your other two entries. As your Native American song started I was wowed, expecting a complete whoppa, 10 out of 10, but as it kept going I was like... is she gonna do anything else? It was really sad to see. It didn't need to be 5 minutes long, and sadly I just got tired of it. I will however point out that you had one of the toughest cultures to represent and this song, while not entirely being my cup of tea, was a good job at representing it while also giving us something that, if nothing else, stood out from the rest of the crowd.
I will conclude with your minority language song. Girl, this was stunning, incredible, there is an endless list of words you can find on thesaurus.com that show how much I loved this song. It grabbed my attention right from the start, and even though it was low-key and almost 6 minutes long, it managed to keep my attention the whole time. Absolutely stunning love, on par with your most servilicious of serves.
Ika: It's scientific fact that I love me some good Shirley, and when she's not good, I get so angry and upset. Luckily for you, you're not the queen I'm going to have an emotional breakdown at this week, because you actually did a pretty decent job! Your first song, as an individual who understand the language, was quite okay. When the song started I was concerned because I usually despise this form of traditional irish music, but by the five minute mark, all the little quirky elements got through to me.
Your second song, honestly... I'm bored. It still is a banger but it was perhaps the most uninspired choice this week. I know you, and I know you could've digged much further with it than how you did. Not to mention the song itself just doesn't hit it like Demetres does anymore...
The last song though...
I was living from beginning to end, mama. I love me some Canadian First Nation REALNESS. The song itself went off harder than I did on The Carrot Tards, and I was here for it. Whether or not it connected to your culture is a different story. Looking into the lyrics, it didn't really describe culture whatsoever than saying "R*d sk** girl, I love you all the time" which isn't really telling me much the culture, you know? And the song was entirely in English as well, I would've loved to see something from you that was in a Native American or First Nation language, and trust me, they do exist...
Still, good job!
Thank you, Shirley. Up next is Sativa Grahams!

EPISODE 10 · RESULTS Next up is Sativa Grahams (agni)!
Ika:
Hi, Sativa, hello. If you could put your phone down to stop swiping on Tinder and start listening to the critiques, that would be appreciated. Paying attention now? Great.
Girl... Did you really think you could fool a girl BORN IN JAMAICA that Patois is a minority language? No no no this was a disgrace to my cultural background, mama. The song is a banger. I didn't care that much for you trying to prove the validity of Patois, I cared about MINORITY LANGUAGES. The challenge is MINORITY LANGUGAGES. Patois is a language spoken by the MAJORITY of Jamaica. Let me quote Oxford here... a minority language is simply one spoken by less than 50 percent of a population in a given region, state or country". I AM SO UPSET at you right now girl.
I still can't get over that... Anyways, onto Verka Serduchka. When I saw that you were sending Verka Serduchka, I was honestly confused. And babes, my confusion is still continuing way into these critiques. It dragged on by the third minute. Why did you do this to me?? Literally you had so many options to go for, and you were like, Hi, my name is Sativa Grahams and this is the most in-depth that I can go with this, truly the best.
The Aboriginal song though, it was your best of the three. I liked how it had a mixture of an Aboriginal language with English, and had perhaps the deepest meaning. The song itself could have been better, but props to you for getting something interesting done with it! Overall though, girl.... This week was not your brightest moment. Now you can go back to Tinder.
Vicky: Sativa, my dear.... I think you kinda served again. First song? A whopper. Second song? An icon. Third song? We are dancing. I have nothing else to say really, I just love watching you on the stage. I think I just have to finally admit it and say that I'm an avid Sativa stan and I can't do anything about it.
Neda: Good evening Miss Grahams. Your selection for the minority languages category was certainly a bold one, but I myself am I massive fan of Stefflon Don and all of her stompers, so this did it for me. What a BANGER. There are some question marks surrounding the technical eligibility of patois for this challenge, but considering you said in your own words that you were confused I will give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that you were not scamming us. A true stomper.
I have to be honest I was expecting your ethnic party banger to be bad, I just did not have high expectations for this song. But I was pleasantly surprised, it slapped, you truly served us a frantic, energetic and ethnic party banger. It was another bold choice from you doll but I especially appreciated the wonderful insight into your family tree because that shit is confusing and I personally need all the help I can get with that. I wouldn't go as far as saying I loved the song, but it was a banger and it kept the energy going the whole way.
And finally your Aboriginal piece. I have my connections with the former Australian head of delegation in the North Vision Song Contest and I know how hard it is to find an Aboriginal stomper, it is truly very difficult and I think you did a commendable job. Another bold choice but this was a very cute song, I was dancing to these Aboriginal rock beats and I appreciated the extra lyrical connection you made to highlight the struggle and triumph. A very cute entry, and overall I think you did a good job this week!
Ika: I liked your minority language song because of the style. Very catchy beat! While for your ethnic party banger... Knowing it was Verka, I was expecting something dance-worthy with a good drop. Sadly it fell flat for me. Just wasn't something I would listen to... I am just not a fan of your Aboriginal song. Sadly, even though I like rock music, this song gave me a headache.
Thank you, Sativa. Up next is Reed Acted!

EPISODE 10 · RESULTS Moving on to Reed Acted (αndreas)!
Vicky: You were the most consistent for me in the ball. All 3 songs, were a serve. From the weirdly amazing minority language song, to the absolute banger that you sent for the ethnic category and the gorgeous song that you presented for your assigned culture. I also have to point out that you nailed the ethnic banger category the most, when most of the other queens fell flat for me. I have no complaints at all, everything was almost pure perfection. Great job for another week my dear.
Neda: Your minority language entry was really interesting, I have learned something new with your ball tonight, I had no idea the Inuktitut alphabet existed and I am a little bit obsessed with it now. The song was really interesting and enjoyable as well, it had the beats but it was also really relaxing and pleasant. It was a really good start to your ball doll, it was broove, it was brave, it was who you were meant to be. A serve.
Your ethnic party banger was... a little uninspiring, but still a cute bop. It wasn't the most exciting or creative, but I guess it did what it came out here to do and I enjoyed it. I think it was the weakest of your three entries, but it didn't drag it down too much.
I enjoyed your East Asian ethnic wailing banger, it was really interesting. We haven't had a high quality East Asian entry since Sa Dingding double fisted the flute with Capricorn back in season 2, so it was lovely to see that flavour brought back. I do wish the song had more of a climax, it could've been a 10 if it did a little bit more, but it was a really creative and enjoyable entry nonetheless. Great work this week.
Gaitana: Your minority language song is my overall favourite of this challenge as a whole. The language is pretty and the song is ethnic but not in the dance way. Uzbek songs are mostly songs you can dance to. So this ethnic party banger is something like that, so congrats on hitting the theme well! However, I personally am not a fan of this. I've given some high scores on the culture category, and of course this is worthy of a high score! Mongolia is known for wolves I think so culture wise I have to check the box here!
Ika: All season, it's been pretty hard for you to come through the cracks, to get out of that shell and open yourself up to us by giving us the perfect ten. This week though, you really managed to step up your game. At least somewhat? When I saw that you were sending a song repping my Canadian homegirls, you don't know how excited I was. It would have been the direction I, a Canadian, would have taken for this.
And then I listened to the song.
It started off pretty nice, I love myself some throat singing, it was all going great. The chorus came and I was left a bit disappointed. Your other two songs were pretty good for what they were though. The Ethnic Party Banger I could imagine at an ethnic party. The East Asian culture one was lovely too, a bit long, but I like long. My main drawback with it was that I wish there was a lyrical explanation as to how it connected with the culture, it could have pushed you up even more in my eyes here...
Thank you, Reed. Up next is Marta Barta!

EPISODE 10 · RESULTS Next up is Marta Barta (CHAE WITH A C)!
Gaitana: I like the alternative style of your minority language song, which in my opinion is typical with this language. I'd like to see more of this style in the future! Your ethnic party banger is quite modern, but ethnic in a way. I love it! I see your choices are quite unique, keep it up! I love the Latin vibes of your culture song, fits well with the culture assigned to you. Overall you have done a great job!
Neda: Doll if your minority language song is what the lash is like in Wales you need to take me there once the season is over because I love a good deranged moonlit sacrifice with the strings. This song was really lovely, really pleasant, it didn't completely snatch me but I enjoyed the experience. A truly lovely song throughout.
As a song though it does not compare to Katamana. This is the ONLY ethnic party banger I know, it is the only one that exists in my eyes, nothing else compares. I did consult with Lisa B. on this song and she said "wow, these beats", so your essay is fact checked. This song is excellence, exactly what I was looking for, a fantastic ethnic party banger.
I am also a massive fan of La Chica, and this is an excellent pick. I think it truly shows how much you have grown as a queen, as you've had some potentially questionable connections in the past, but this week the connections you made were excellent and not overdone. You did not waffle, the points about women's rights and witchcraft were well thought out, well executed, and straight to the point. You snapped this week.
Ika: When I saw that the Marta Barta herself had posted, I was a bit worried for her as soon as I saw the first song. I had memories of this song, but then I found out that I was actually thinking of somthing else. So, I decided to play your first song, and it was so impactful that it crashed my laptop. This made me lower my score for you even further than I already did. I don't know if that sign was a divine intervention or a sign of what's to come with some of these filler queens, but you did pretty good this week. It wasn't my favourite Marta Barta week, but all of your entries had some flow.
Your minority language song could have been better honestly, it was pretty sweet but a bit flat. And your culture song confused me. Not so much the song itself as your explanation.. I wasn't able to telepathically channel Marta Barta, but I think we both know what I'm saying when I said you channeled Marta. Luckily, I was able to understand the song enough to see it fit in its own right, but this problem with selling your story right here is your flaw. And that's not good at the Top 6. However, that ethnic party banger was indeed a party banger. It was the main song I can imagine playing at a party, it got me out of my seat and slutdropping onto the floor. I love Serbia.
Vicky: Let's start off with the most important thing from your set of songs: the latin song was an absolute whopper, thank you for this my dear Marta. I'll have to sadden you though, because I am not a fan of your ethnic banger, like at all. I personally find it kind of annoying and it's not a song I enjoy that much. That's the only thing however with your songs, because your minority language was really good. Had it not been for the second song we would be talking for a winning set of songs.
Thank you, Marta. And last but not least is Alinka Tcheps!

EPISODE 10 · RESULTS And good evening to Miss Alinka Tcheps (Sylwia)!
Vicky: I honestly don't know what to say for most of these choices. It's not the fact that they are so terribly awful that I could not listen to them but it's just that they were... just there? I wasn't absolutely moved by any of your choices, nothing amazed me really. Your highlight was definitely the song you chose to represent the Arabic culture, which again, I kinda felt like it was sort of lacking.
Gaitana: Girl what is that minority language song??? Headache inducing!!! I hate her voice. Thank you, next! On the contrary, your ethnic party banger song is fitting for this category! It's the reason it is ranked high from me. Catchy too. Your culture is my favourite from this category! I love the modern twist of a typical Arabic ballad. This is the redemption for the challenge overall, but sadly not enough
Ika:
It's so devastating that I have to read a girl such as Alinka Tcheps, but girl, I have to get to work and get it done because your entries this week left me no other choice. I'll start off by saying that you had no BAD choice here this week, no song here was atrociously horrible... That's the main positive.
Your first song was probably the best of the pack, but those male men singing over it at parts annoyed me. I loved seeing some Kurdish representation here, but when 50% of the song has English lyrics, it was disappointing. Your second song I vaguely remember from Neda's mixtape, but listening to it, I understand why I forgot it. It just felt very flat, very quick. I didn't really get that much of an ETHNIC party banger either, it just felt like a ban, no ger. The Arabian culture song, I could see what you were going for here, and the song is nice and cute, but didn't leave much of an impact.
I was also a bit confused how you related a song about a tragic bombing to culture. A deeper explanation here could've helped me get what you mean much more, but the song itself was in no way bad! I love you girl, you just need to keep being you.
Neda: Hello Miss Tcheps. Your minority song was pretty cute, I enjoyed the beats, but I didn't really like that the chorus was in (very basic) English, for me that detracted from the whole purpose of the challenge and I don't think this particular song was good enough to compensate. It was cute, but not great like some of the other songs slayed me this week.
I was feeling the MARUV inspirations in "Turkish Love" by Onika, but I wasn't convinced on the ethnic side of this party banger. I guess the drop does it, but it feels uninspiring as an ethnic party banger entry in comparison to the other entries we have seen. I did enjoy this song, but it just didn't feel especially ethnic to me, it was just a party banger with a slightly ethnic drop, and I want MORE at this stage of the competition doll.
I appreciate that for your Arabic song you went with a ballad, as a stronger representation of Arabic culture, because if you'd gone with another ethnic banger this would've been a very samey set. This song was lovely, I liked the mixture of traditional and modern touches, I appreciated the connection to the Beirut explosion, it was very touching. As a whole, this was definitely the strongest of your entries, a really nice song and a nice way to close.
Thank you, Alinka.
Alright, I think we've heard enough.
