Thank you for your patience! Here is the final post of songs that have been selected for United States of Song 2022.
Eurovision 2022 is just around the corner, so this is the last update you'll see for USoS 2022 until the day after the Grand Final, at the earliest. During that time I will be preparing the Semifinal 1 recap!
Guam
Håle' - "No Rush"
Song found by Gregory (inactive)
Let's start off by confirming the amazing news that we will have all six territories represented in the contest! Turns out that Guam has quite a number of good artists, with tropical or urban flavor being the most predominant. Hale was formed in 2019 by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Peter Guerrero Cruz. He was born and raised in Guam, but currently resides in San Diego, CA. He considers himself a reggae artist, and aims to stay true to the funky vibes that the genre has to offer.
Nevada
PALAYE ROYALE - "No Love in L.A."
Artist suggested by Pablo (2021)
As mentioned last week, Nevada was reserved by a user, but sadly they stopped responding to us. Their loss! I'm gonna fill that void with a band that was suggested by a friend of mine last year, Palaye Royale. They are a Canadian-American band originating in Vegas, and have been performing for over ten years with their own brand of 'art rock' music. I chose them above all else because they bring a slightly edgier vibe in comparison to the rest of this year's songs. Maybe you agree?
Kentucky
Twinjabi - "Talk Of The Town"
Artist discovered by Gregory (inactive)
This group is one reason why I love this contest: you can discover the most unexpected things from the most unexpected places, if you know where to dig. While we did receive one entry for Kentucky this year, it didn't live up to expectations - so off I went, searching around, until... these guys. Yes, they are from Kentucky - from Louisville (which is actually a very cool & progressive city). Yes, they are twins. Yes, they sing in Punjabi & English! How you feel about the rest of them, or their song, is entirely up to you though.
Vermont (take 2!)
Francesca Blanchard - "Loon Song"
Returning Artist
The other change-up in this final post, Andriana Chobot's "Cascade" was ineligible for participation. So, I had to chase down something, and quick! When that happens, I look to the past - and thankfully, Francesca has some new singles out this past year. 2017's Argonaut & Wasp are releasing music, too - but they are largely an indie band, and we already have a lot of indie bands (Forgive my biases!)
and the host entry is...
Oregon
Japanese Breakfast - "So Sweet"
Song submitted by Derek
As voted on by Committee, the song and artist representing the host state is Japanese Breakfast's "So Sweet"! You may have heard about this band, because they have been growing in popularity in the indie scene as of late. This song will automatically qualify to the Final Round! Lead vocalist Michelle Zauner says "So Sweet" is a pop song but she didn't set out to create a pop record. She also takes heavy inspiration from Kate Bush, and her mother - who passed away from lung cancer and is the subject of her autobiographical novel, "Crying in H-Mart."
That's all the songs! So go ahead: start listening to them on the official USoS playlists on Spotify & Youtube, linked below!
