Hello everyone... Welcome to:
The 2022 STATE SONG SELECTIONS
Because these three states are so competitive, the USoS Committee are holding a song selection to choose their entry. The three states are California, New York, and Texas. (We decided not to hold one for Oregon, as there were not enough songs to consider one.) CA and NY have 10 songs, and TX has 8 songs. We need you to decide who's representing these most popular American states. We chose the songs based either on song variety, submitter variety, whether it fit the rules of the contest, and several other factors (a few song choices were switched to others from the artist for various reasons.) If your song didn't make it, I apologize. Credit is given to the user who submitted the entry in the video recaps. The order of the songs was completely randomized for each selection. The winner of each selection will be decided on a 12-10-8-6-4-2-1 voting scale. Below are the recaps and playlist links. I encourage listening to the playlists, as the recap doesn't always do a song justice. Some songs have really amazing elements that get missed if you only hear the 25-second snippet.
VOTEClick here to use the voting form.
You can also send me a PM on here or Discord with the specific points (12-10-8-6-4-2-1) - or send a full ranking if that's easier. I will tabulate the points after the deadline, and announce the winners sometime in that first week of April. You don't need to vote for all three states at once; you don't even need to vote for every state (but it would be cool if you did ). The deadline to vote is MARCH 31st, 2022.
*Now that these selections are announced*, we will begin announcing the entries for the other states, including those already confirmed.
Which territories will join the 50 states this year? Stay tuned to find out... We wish the best of luck to all the songs out there, and let's have fun! Let's do this!!

UNITED STATES OF SONG 2022 - State Song Selection Results Today, the results of the three USoS-run state song selections can be announced! Or... can they? More on that in a second. As always, thank you to those who voted, and to everyone who contributed entries. We have a small but powerful group of devoted and interested people involved in this contest, and I appreciate each and every one of you. I tallied the votes, and in the spoilers below are the winners. We hope you enjoy them. California : WINNER TBD... (Up for review by Committee)
The Linda Lindas - "Oh" - 56 points (submitted by Derek ) The song that I thought would win in a landslide got 5th place, lol. Instead, we start off the results with a controversy! Hurray... (jk) The Linda Lindas are a pop-punk group who got together in 2018 as preteens. The half-Asian, half-Latino group has been gigging around the country and is preparing to release their debut album on Friday! The problem is this: 50% of the group were not age 14 or older as of the 1st of January 2022. This breaks one of the established rules of USoS. It was unfortunately not discovered until the results were tabulated; thus, Committee will convene and determine if we will waive this rule, given that the other 50% of the group were above age 14. After all, these rules are meant to be similar to ESC but there's nobody holding us to them. If not, Hana Vu will go to Portland instead (they win in a tiebreaker with TWIN XL, since more voters gave points to Hana.) ----------------- 2nd place: Hana Vu - "Keeper" - 53 points (Chante) 3rd place: TWIN XL - "Slow Heart" - 53 points (Derek) 4th place: Michael Medrano - "I Don't Wanna Talk About Love" - 46 points (uhsting) 5th place: Emlyn - "Cruel World" - 36 points (ukraineofcourse) New York : WINNER: Sarah Kinsley - "The King" - 64 points (submitted by Derek ) Another unexpected but happy surprise result for New York! I really thought the insanity that was Danny Blu's "Violence" would've been a cult favorite. Anyway, 21-years old Sarah shares a home between Connecticut and New York, but spends her time in her NYC apartment writing music and honing her craft. According to her, "The King" is "talking about what the greatest ideal representation of myself is, whether that’s on stage as an artist or as a person. So it was just about sort of roaming through the past, piecing together all these bits of life, and going through them to try and make sense of things." ------------- 2nd place: Danny Blu - "Violence" (uhsting) - 50 points 3rd place: Grace Vanderwaal - "Don't Assume What You Don't Know" (Derek) - 48 points 4th place: Ella Jane - "Calling Card" (uhsting) - 48 points 5th place: Niu Raza - "Mamay" (Greg) - 36 points Texas : WINNER: Primo The Alien - "Thunder" - 67 pts (song & artist submitted by Derek & uhsting ) This wasn't the runaway winner I had privately predicted; it barely eclipsed in the end. Its the only song to win that got points from all voters. I give credit to both Derek and uhsting for this win, since both of them suggested a song from the artist. Primo (real name: Laura Lee Bishop) is based in Austin and is clearly inspired by 80's synth, electropop, and all the aesthetics that come with it. From her Blackfret artist profile: "Primo sings with urgency, from the gut, hitting notes so high you’ll wonder if she’s hiding a soprano sax in her throat." ----------------- 2nd place: Allison Ponthier - "Cowboy" (Derek) - 64 points 3rd place: Marlhy - "Good Die Young" (uhsting) - 60 points 4th place: Kelsie Watts - "Summertime Anthem" (Derek) - 58 points 5th place: Sydney Cope - "Think I Found My Way" (Greg) - 33 points
The announcements will continue Thursday with five fresh songs. By the start of next week, we can announce the running order. Congratulations to the winners, and we'll get back to you soon on... well, you know
