Michigan State Selection 2022 Welcome to the 2022 Michigan state selection!
Six acts are competing for the chance to represent Michigan in USoS 2022. Continue reading below for more information on the songs and artists. (Click here to access a YouTube playlist.)
1. Sara Marie Barron - PrettyBoy
Born, raised, and based in Detroit, Sara Marie Barron is a neo-soul singer. After living in both Nashville, TN and Portland, OR, she returned home to Detroit, where she currently is employed at Assemble Sound (a Detroit based indie label and distributor) in their Sync Department.
2. Givhan - Windows
Givhan is a Detroit based singer-songwriter and rapper. You may remember them as Jaye Prime, the artist who just represented Michigan at USOS last year.
3. Coco Benson & Shizzy - Majesty
Born in Michigan, raised in Zurich, and now based in Atlanta, Coco Benson, the granddaughter of Nigerian highlife legend Bobby Benson, teams up with the Nigerian superproducer Shizzi on this Afrobeat track.
4. Lipstick Jodi - do/SAY
Yes, we have music on the west side of Michigan. Lipstick Jodi is a three piece indie-alt band out of Grand Rapids, fronted by singer Karli Morehouse. do/SAY is the lead single off of their sophmore album, one that I recommend everyone listen to at some point
5. Grace Lee - Villa
Grace Lee is a singer/songwriter from Detroit, currently residing in Nashville. She released her first two singles in 2018, and her song Baby Blue made the shortlist for Michigan last year
6. Ada LeAnn - used 2 be
There really isn't anything about Ada LeAnn that I can say that hasn't been said in the past week or so. 16 years old from Cereal City (our nickname for Battle Creek), Ada is Michigan's representative at the American Song Contest.
