Hi there! Welcome to the Song Contest Forums. If you've never used a forum like this before, this thread will help you understand how to set up an account and join contests.
Your Account
This is what the main page should look like for guests.
The most popular contests are here on the main page. You're probably here because you know of one of these contests. To make an account, click on the button in the upper right that says "Sign Up." Fill in all the information, and you'll be ready to go! After you make an account, you can customize your profile. This is what a customized profile looks like.
As you can see, you can set a display name, personal status, avatar, and also connect other accounts you might have, like Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. To change your name, click the button that says "Edit Profile." You'll arrive at this page.
This is where you can set an avatar (either one you have already or you can make one), but we're not doing that right now. Instead, click on the tab that says "Personal." You'll arrive at this page.
Now you can fill in a display name, along with other information about yourself, like where you live, your birthday, and a short biography. The only thing you really need is a name, though, so if you don't feel comfortable sharing that other information, you don't have to.
Joining Contests
Every contest is different. However, every contest is set up the same way, using a board. The board is what you click on from the main page to access the contest. For example, this is what the board of the North Vision Song Contest looks like.
A list of sub-boards comes first, but most of those are for the benefit of existing players. Scroll down and you'll see the Threads. This is where most of the information for NVSC is.
Because NVSC is a popular contest, it has a waiting list. To join, click on the link that says "North Vision Song Contest - Waiting List," and you'll enter that thread.
Now that you're here, you can click that button in the upper right that says "Reply." You'll open a window with a blank box where you can write a post.
This post will be displayed publicly on the thread, so choose your words carefully! Say something polite, like "I would like to join the waiting list for NVSC." Then, scroll down and click the button that says "Create Post."
Sending Messages
You've done it! You've made your first post. Now that you have practice, you can explore the forums and find all kinds of contests that you can join. If you find a contest you like, but aren't sure how to join, you can message the host. For example, if you wanted to join the "Lyrical Song Contest," you can send a message to the moderator; their name is displayed right below the name of the contest when you click on its board. Click on their name.
After you click on their name, you'll end up on their profile. It should look like this.
To write them a message, click the button in the upper left that says "Send Message." You'll arrive at this screen where you can write them a message.
Write them a polite message, asking about their contest and what you have to do to join. Most hosts will respond as fast as they can, but only send them one message; they don't like it when the same person messages them multiple times. Something like "Hi, I want to join Lyrical Song Contest! What do I have to do?" will work. Of course, change "Lyrical Song Contest" to the name of the contest you're asking to join.
And you're done! You've created a post and sent a message, so now it's time to explore! There are so many different kinds of contests on the forums, so go out and find them!
