Welcome to the official announcement thread for North Laul 17!
*Please read carefully!*
North Laul is a national music festival and competiton which has been held in
Estonia for already 4 years, and which is meant to selectthe Estonian representative for the North Vision Song Contest yearly.
ERR is currently planning the 5th ever edition of North Laul,
which will be held & broadcast in November
along with a brand new format, presented yesterday during a press conference.
Artists from all over
Estonia can now submit their songs to the national broadcaster and take the chance to represent the country
in the biggest European musical competition ever.
The Format
ERR is planning to host, for the first time ever, a North Laul
edition with three shows on different evenings:
two semifinals, and a grand final.
First Semifinal - 4 artists will perform in the live show.
At the end of the program, 2 artists will qualify.
The jury panel will determine the results of the show.
The show will be held at the Nordea Concert Hall in Tallinn.
Second Semifinal - 4 artists will perform in the live show.
At the end of the program, 2 artists will qualify.
The jury panel will determine the results of the show.
The show will be held at the Nordea Concert Hall in Tallinn.
Final - 5 artists will perform in the live show:
the 4 qualifiers from the semifinals, plus
the wildcard from one of the two previous shows.
The wildcard is given by the jury to the 3rd-placed artist
which managed to gain more points in the semifinals.
The sole televoting will determine the results of the show.
The show will be held at the Tondiraba Arena in Tallinn.
Jury Voting
The jury panel for North Laul 17 will be formed by 8 judges,
two national and six international musicians, radio workers, journalists
and music critics.
The jury will only vote in the semifinals and will award a rating from 0 to 10
to each of the semifinalists. At the end of the shows, the two artists with the most points
in each semifinal will advance to the final round.
As the semifinal shows will be broadcast on Togethertube smoothly,
the jury members are required to submit their votes in advance.
A recap will be privately given to each judge in order to achieve that.
Televoting
The Estonian audience will only have a say during the final evening, when only
the televoting will determine the winner of North Laul.
It will work in the same way as it worked in the previous NL editions, meaning that
each televoter has to award a rating from 0 to 1000 to each of the finalists.
The numbers represent virtual text messages/votes/calls sent for each song.
People who voted as judges in the semifinals are obviously allowed to cast their vote
as televoters in the final as well.
