Telecanal reveals the

Chilean entry for the associate final of Northvision Song Contest #20 -

Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio, had this to say -

"On July 13th, Telecanal confirmed that Chile would be participating in the associate final of the European song contest, Northvision. A national selection, "Canal Al Norte", was proposed to be held in order to select a song, but this was cancelled after the North Broadcasting Union issued a ban on national selections for associate broadcasters. An internal selection was held in its place, with a judging panel made up of five NVSC fans (who were chosen in an online raffle held by nvscchile.cl).

One of the judges, 21 year old student, Victoria Péndulo, talked about the voting process in an interview -

"We listened to over 100 songs over the span of 4 days. We had to give each song a mark out of 5, and all songs with a score over 40 advanced to the next round. 14 songs made the cut, and we had to give 5,4,3,2 and 1 point to our top 5 choices. The song with the most votes was selected as the entry."

The selected song was "Mine" by K3l (AKA Raquel Calderón). Calderón had this to say shortly after receiving a phonecall from her manager about the good news.

"I am very excited to be representing my country in this prestigious contest. My manager said it would give a boost to my career, but I have been a fan of the contest for quite some time. I will try my best to get my country a place in the grand final, but I am mostly about enjoying myself"

However, not everyone is happy with this selection. Shortly after nvscchile.com announced her participation, Calderón received several nasty tweets from Chilean punk rockers, some of whom sent death threats. This is not a surprise, as back in 2008, punks attempted to attack Calderón at a music store in Santiago where she would unveil her latest album by throwing objects into the store. Calderón's manager has stated that she will have security by her side at the airport when she departs for Albania."
