Highlights of the Summer Olympics so far - by @ori2002 Hungary's performance so far is beyond amazing
Levi21 Way to go
So far, the
Israeli team is quite a disappointment.
Alex Shatilov's failure was unfortunate, not to even mention what happened with
Shira Rishoni, which is a disgrace imo.
Amit Ivry is our hope for a medal, but I don't see it happening -- but I guess we'll just wait and see today
The
Norwegian delegation isn't surprisingly good so far. The main hopes for a medal still haven't participated, but the women's handball team is 1st place material, and that loss against
Brazil, of course, didn't help them achieve it at all.
USA won the first gold of the Olympics, which is nice, and are currently 3rd, behing
Hungary and
Australia.
I would say I hope for the standings to remain this way, but this is unrealistic...
In all, I've summaried my opinions about the big countries and the medalists, but about the smaller countries:
Fiji have surprised us twice in only 24 hours. The tiny country has a population of only 900K, and still - 15 thousand fans from the archipelago made it to
Brazil to spectate. This is impressive (yet doesn't even compare to
Iceland's fanbase...)
Fiji were, first of all, thrashed 8-0 in the premiliminary round men's football match vs
South Korea.
After this horrible defeat, though, the Rugby team has managed to beat the mighty
USA, increasing their chances of making it to the Quarter-Finals.
Now let's talk
Safarov.
Orkhan Safarov was my favorite judoka last night. Unfortunately, after three amazing fights,
Orkhan failed to win the Semi-Final and the fight for the
bronze medal, that went to the
Japanese judoka instead.
He was just so cool and reacted to any move his opponent made very peacefully, but still beating the crap out of the other judoka fight after fight, with his amazing techniques.
I feel bad for him for not achieving not even the
bronze, but it was still a great performance overall.
Belgium,
Denmark and
Poland all finished just 7 seconds apart and took the
gold,
silver and
bronze, respectively, in the outdoor bicycle race.
Today, the women's outdoor bicycle race will take place, and I'll watch enthusiastically.
Hope Solo has been extremely floppy lately.
I know she hasn't conceded a single goal, and her performance was nearly perfect against
France, but her choice of words and respect to the
host country, has in my opinion lowered her level of dignity, and ignited hateful comments from the
Brazillian fans.
The booing is unnecessary (and as an avid soccer fan, this is something I hardly ever consider doing), and it probably sucks to be
Solo rn, but she needs to face the consequences of the bs she says.
And obvs, the highlight of yesterday,
USA 119 - 62 CHINA
