 Latvia has confirmed participation in upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2017. (source)The day, when  Latvia will select artist and entry is also known - 26th of February.

LATVIA includes NEW way to support your favorite in "Supernova 2017" This year's novelty, What is unique not only in Latvian, but the whole Eurovision history - for the first time the national results of the voting will take into account the determination of music streaming on sites 'Spotify' listening data that will be integrated in the vote.
"Supernova 2017" producer Ilze Janosne explains: "We already in the very first season of "Supernova" installed goal - to find a strong, well beyond the "Eurovision Song Contest" viable song and artist. Cooperation with the "Spotify" and "Universal Music Group" is a big step towards the goal. Consequently, with involvement of 'Spotify' in the competition, we have the opportunity to reach new audiences, and to include the voting results in real data from music consumers. "Ilze accents that "we are very seriously working with" Spotify "to ensure accurate data collection and to develop a mechanism to avoid possible tampering."
Central and Eastern Europe "Spotify" Head Przmek Pluta says that this is the first time the "Spotify" provides with data Eurovision Song Contest selection: "We are very pleased about this cooperation! "Spotify" is developing rapidly and already a lot of Latvian youth use our platform as the primary forms of music consumption. "
Latvian national selection panel representative of "Universal Music Group" (Finland) Petri Manonen believes that "Spotify" Data Inclusion into votes is to be welcomed: "The more listened to is a song on "Spotify" streaming platform, the more it is likely to become a hit. It's a fact." Petri also welcomes the success of Latvian Eurovision Song Contest in recent years: "The Latvian representatives - Aminata and Justs - have successfully participated in the Eurovision finals, so "Universal Music Group" is interested to cooperate with the "Supernova" and identify possible rising stars. Latvia has a lot of talented musicians and composers, but also a lot of unused potential. I believe that with the right approach and the support of our company's departments dealing with an artist development and marketing, Latvian representatives may take even stronger steps."
