Levante was born on 23 March 1987 as Claudia Lagona in Caltagirone, Catania, Sicily. As a teenager, Lagona took up songwriting to deal with two painful experiences, the death of her father, and her move to Turin. She studied in
Leeds for a summer to improve her English capabilities, and worked as a barista.
Having started her career in 2013, singing those words in "Alfonso", her debut album released a year later charted on Italy's Top 10 album charts. She released her second album today, and has already performed in the
United States.
Her NVSC 22 song, "Non me ne frega", was released on 1 February 2017, is sung entirely in Italian, bar one line in French. It's written by Levante and Dario Faini, and was produced by Antonio Filippeli.
Faini also wrote
05 "Alice e il blue" (Annalisa) and 07 "Non me ne accorgo" (Marco Mengoni). He is also known for writing "Noi siamo infinito" (Alessio Bernabei) and "Luce che entra" (Lorenzo Fragola)
