That counts for almost all of Azerbaijan's entries I've in mind right now tho. The probably only exceptions are 2009 and 2014. That's my point actually. There were rumours that they would sing in Azeri (partly) but in the end they send what they always send: generic songs. They really should try being risky for once.

dropped from to the new revamp was highly unnecessary lol should have given her new lyrics instead of forcing in a few electronic sounds that doesn't fit??

From my Tumblr:I have two opinions about this song - the first being that it is extremely well-produced. Because it is so well-produced, it is a clean and safe choice for opening the contest, all the while keeping people engaged. Dimitris’s engagement with Demy last year did not go so well, and nearly didn’t qualify, but this was the exception in an otherwise stellar career for the producer. Because it’s so well-produced, and because it is opening the semifinal, I started looking into how often the “opening song” qualifies. I did this because… well, the song is otherwise unchallenging and streamline. Some of the lyrics verge on silliness, as well (“Luna moon me up”? Are we riding the Voyager?) In the hardest semifinal (at least everyone is saying so), the song can still qualify because it’s everyone’s first impression, and it’s a solidly good song. Songs that fail to qualify from first position in the first semifinal (Finland 2016, Moldova 2015) can direct the blame to the quality of the performer. But I don’t feel that will happen here. I fully expect Azerbaijan to accompany Aisel with a slew of interesting staging to propel its placing and guarantee a Final spot. However, they are by themselves, in terms of friends, when it comes to neighborly voting patterns (I hate talking about this kinda stuff, but I might as well point it out.) It’ll be interesting to see how well she transfers into the mainstream pop genre come Lisbon. In some ways she is the most well-established, grounded artist that Azerbaijan has sent in recent memory. Samra was a vixen, and Dihaj walked to her own beat; she’s bound to make a good first impression for those who want good pop music. But it’s very hard to write a review on a song like this. Even as I struggle to say something new, the chorus does get stuck in your head, as manufactured as the song is. My inclination was to rank this lower than most entries this season, but something tells me it won’t be one and done this year - so it got raised a bit last second. It’s not my favorite song, by far. I liked their 2016 and 2017 efforts more. But I won’t rank this embarrassingly low. Overall, a respectable effort from The Land of Fire. My Rating: 6/10 Ranking: 25th of 43
