Well... this is my final NNMC post.
I can't say thank you enough!
What would I even post? I've already said most of what I wanted to say when I made the announcement early this month. Maybe I'll start with my personal journey in not only NNMC but in online contests as The Philippines.
When I started participating in mid-2015 via FB and YT contests, I would always be on the lookout to see how Philippines could fare in a lot of online song contests... we mostly flopped unless it was a diaspora act (though that applies to so many countries). I didn't realize it then, but in my opinion, native Pinoy music was not accessible to a global audience... at least at the time. Times have changed since 2016. I was kinda competitive, so I would try to look for songs that I knew sounded international and exciting for listeners and voters. I just know that the country has so much to offer musically but I just had to dig really hard to find them. That's partly what inspired me to start NNMC. I knew right away I wanted to take my birth country Philippines because I wanted to have control of what kinds of Pinoy songs users around the world would be exposed to.
What I didn't expect was to win the literal first edition... with a ballad! It shocked me so much and seven years later, I'm still bewildered. Like... Margaret's "Cool Me Down" — a beloved ESC NS reject at the time — was in the same edition (and that placed 4th???). I thought "Well, at least I won't be discouraged from organizing the contest anymore since I've secured myself a win, so I won't be so desperate." And frankly, it has been a blast organizing it without the burden of trying to win. I think it's what part of what made NNMC happen so frequently and last so long. But like every journey, there were ups and downs. I had my first NQ at the 10th edition. I would bag some Top 10 and even AQ placements every so often with Sarah Geronimo, Karencitta, Built By Titan, among others. The NowNewDramas... you know which ones. In later years, I would just be happy to even qualify from the semifinals. My last three NQs being in the borderline is still so rude. But I digress because I won a second time early last year... and to my surprise, a third time in the most recent SOTY. That win with Ylona was so unexpected though, since I thought I missed my opportunity with a song she had released a year prior. In hindsight, the fact I won a second time helped simmer down my desperation to win again, so ending a contest with that recent win made the decision easier for me.
Below is a video of all 70 NNMC entries of my country Philippines!
Overall, I've had an incredible time actively researching and discovering Filipino songs and artists in the past seven years. But I've now reached the point where giving this up leaves me with no remorse, just the prospect of nostalgia. Maraming salamat sa inyong suporta! (Thank you very much for your support!)
As most of you already know, a group of users have already begun to organize a new contest that will continue the spirit of NNMC. In the case that was happening, I would not be involved. Just spectating mainly. I know you're all itching to continue competing, so CHECK THEM OUT HERE! I am excited to see how this is going to turn out because I know that Chante™ , Kinoshita! , suyana , and future members who want to help organize NTWIC(N)MC are incredibly dedicated and passionate about the online contest life. Y'all are going to do amazing!
To end this post, here is a compilation of all 70 winners that have captivated SCF users and permanently engraved themselves into NNMC's history. Consider this my final sendoff.
Feel free to express any final thoughts. You've got some time before I ask an SCF admin to move this to the "Closed/Inactive Contests" board.
I appreciate you all! Thank you and good luck!
