- SPRITOPIA SONG CONTEST RULES -
1. CONCEPT
The Spritopia Song Contest (SSC) is a monthly song contest, where fictional nations made by the members of this forum compete and share music, representing their imagined country.
Each edition takes ± 3 weeks (2 weeks to reserve your song and 2 weeks to represent your song and vote) and includes three different sections in order of appearance:
Reservations: The host(s) opens a thread where people can reserve the song to represent their nation. (Duration: ± 2 weeks, right after the semi-final voting opens.)
Two semi finals: The host opens 1 thread where people can listen to and vote for the songs in that semi final. (Duration: 1 week, starting from when the reservations have ended.)
Grand final: The host opens a thread where people can listen to and vote for the songs in that final.
(Duration: ± 1 week, starting from when the semi's have ended.)
The reservations of the next edition stay open at least till the previous edition has completely ended (i.e. when the votes and winner are revealed.)
2. MAIN NATIONS AND WAITING LIST
2.1. MAIN NATIONS
There are 52 main nations that are also on the main roster. Nations in the Spritopia world can participate in every Spritopia edition and can send their artist and song to the host of that edition. When a nation gets off the main roster, a nation on the Waiting List will take its place on the main roster.
2.2. WAITING LIST
Waiting List info here.
3. PARTICIPATING IN SPRITOPIA
3.1. PARTICIPATION RULES
There is a maximum of 52 nations that can participate per edition. In order to participate in Spritopia, you need to be a member of the main roster.
The amount of participants of an edition will decide the next aspects of that edition:
< 28 participants: Edition will have only one final.
≥ 28 participants: Edition will have semi finals and a final.
28 - 35 participants: 10 qualifiers from each semi
36 - 41 participants: 10 qualifiers + 1 IJ qualifier from each semi
42 - 52 participants: 11 qualifiers + 1 IJ qualifier from each semi
3.2. ENTRIES
Every nation may enter with one song per edition.
The song may be from any country, year, genre and language.
A song entered in a previous edition may not be used again by any nation in any future edition of Spritopia. This also applies to originals, covers, remixes or other alternate versions of the same song. You can check this here.
Songs from the Eurovision Song Contest or Junior Eurovision Song Contest are forbidden, as are songs from editions of national festivals where (J)ESC songs are chosen from.
Your country may choose to select their entry internally or host a national final.
The same artist can't be send by more than one nation in the same edition.
The nation that submit a song to the form first will have priority over other nations that want to submit that song.
3.3. VOTING
The voting deadline will be announced by the host in the threads. Make sure to vote before that deadline in both your semi final as in the final.
The votes are presented in the style exactly like Eurovision; 12, 10, 8 to the top three, and 7 - 1 points awarded to the rest of the top 10 votes from that country.
Failing to present votes means that a nation is disqualified and their points are brought down to zero.
One cannot vote for their own country.
The votes of non-participating countries who are still on the main roster will be counted individually.
In case of a tie-break, the nation with the highest amount of voters will win. If that doesn't break the tie, the nation with the highest amount of 12 points will win. If that doesn't break the tie, then it's 10, 8, ... till the tie is broken.
3.4. INTERNATIONAL JURY
Voting in a semi final you're not participating in makes you an IJ-voter. Your vote will be counted together with other IJ-voters to decide one IJ-qualifier of that semi. (i.e. A nation that didn't qualify normally, but got the highest score of not-qualifying nations in the IJ-voting.)
Votes of the IJ are not counted as a separate voter of that semi.
Nations on the waiting list will always be included by the IJ-voters in the semi finals. They will have their own IJ-jury in the final where all the votes of the nation on the WL will be combined as one voter.
3.5. HOSTING
The winner of an edition will have the opportunity of hosting the next edition. If they decline to host, the person who placed 2nd will host and if that nation also declines to host, the line of hosting rights goes to the next country on the list until a suitable host is found.
It is highly advised to send out voting reminders to the participants, yet it is not necessary. If the votes must be send to another person than the host, all the participants must receive an announcement of this case.
The hosts uses the pots in the pots thread. Each pot will be divided in half, where one part goes to the first semi and the other part to the second semi.
4. DISQUALIFICATION RULES
The consequences of not voting in the final may lead to the removal of your nation from the main roster under these circumstances:
If you do not vote on your debut (when you joined the main roster), your country will no longer exist.
As for all other participants, if you do not participate twice in a row, your country will be removed from the main roster.
If you do not vote in the final of an edition you are participating in twice in a row, your country will be removed from the main roster.
If you get 3 strikes out of the last 10 editions, your country will be removed from the main roster. You will get a strike if you fail to notify what you are doing in an edition, if you fail to vote in the final of an edition you are participating in or if you fail to vote in the semi-final of an edition you are participating in. You can only get one strike per edition.
Exceptions are accepted under condition that you contact a moderator of Spritopia as soon as possible. They will review your reason. It is highly recommended to ask a nation on the WL to participate for your nation when you can't participate by yourself.
5. MODERATION
If you have any problems or questions, you can always contact the moderation team of SSC.
