The participants of UMK will be revealed in 21st January. During the same day YLE will also announce the professional jury that will decide who will perform in the final. So either this means a) the finalists & the professional jury will be announced at the same time during the press conference or b) there will be a public preselection which has 100% jury voting.
The final of UMK is held on 7th March at Tampere (TV-studios of Mediapolis is the venue) which means that UMK will be held at the same time as Melodifestivalen.

Personally i am already really looking forward to this and so very glad that the format is back to what it used to be with an open selection for everyone Lets be honest those invitational acts just did not work for us at all Even though i personally loved both Saara (a literal queen and she slayed) and Darude (however generic the songs were), i still prefer UMK as an open competition rather than invitational and think that works much better for us I am hoping for a worthy good song that can get us back to the final in 2020 and who knows, maybe contest for the win itself if the right song is chosen fingers crossed our voters won't be drunk like for example in 2015 oops no offense to those who like the song ofc Eagerly waiting for the reveal Hoping for a nice amount of variety between those 6 acts that got chosen

A little update on what's happened at the moment: Krista Siegfrieds and Mikko Silvennoinen will host (again) UMK. Christoffer Strandberg (co-host in UMK18 & 19) wasn't mentioned to be one of the hosts, so it is likely that he's not part of the show this year. The entries will not be published at the same time, meaning they are announced separately like in the last two years. Horrible decision if you ask from me. And also, Meiju Suvas - Finnish schlager singer told in an interview that she sent a song to UMK20. Meiju Suvas wasn't selected to the top six which surprised her as she said that the song was "so eurovision". Maki Kolehmainen (composed 2002 and Frontside Ollie) and Swedish "master composer" composed the song.

Awh i was waiting to hear all the songs oh well i hope the songs are actually good and worthy of being announced separately. I just do not understand why that is needed to be done same as the last two yeaes but eh so yeah i agree it is a horrible decision And i am kind of sad for Meiju tbh since i would have loved to hear her song. I did read the article a while back about it and it is kind of surprising they did not go for an experienced singer such as her better hope they have made the right entry pickings

As the participants are revealed in under a week I thought it would be great to list the artists that are likely to be in UMK20 or have been speculated to compete
TUURE BOELIUS (100%) I'm so sure about him competing in the contest that I could bet all my savings.
The head of music at YleX Tapio Hakanen told yesterday in an interview that their main focus is to try to make ESC more relevant to the younger audience. Considering that Tuure's fan base considers mostly youngsters he would be perfect to make Eurovision "more relevant" to younger audience, especially as he is a very known name.
+ Tuure told (I think it was during the new year) that he has new music coming up which he wants to tell but cannot. Also he is a big Eurovision fan so I'm locking this as an certain participant of UMK20. Can't wait to fuck up this prediction.
SIRU (50%-60%) Siru is going to publish her new EP in 31st January which happens to be the day when the last UMK entry is going to be published. She aims for an international career but at the same time she doesn't have a record label, so UMK/Eurovision could be a good way to promote her career.
Some of you may remember her as she participated in UMK15 with the song "Mustelmat".
ERIKA VIKMAN (0%-10%) According to her partner Danny (who is btw 51 years older than her) told that she has projects that "you cannot even accidentally spoil". Could being part of the UMK be one of those? Maybe not.
JANNIKA B (0%-5%) According to the journalist Mari Pudas from Iltalehti Jannika B might be one of the participants. This is imo a wild guess without any sources relying on it etc. but there's a small chance. I spotted her during the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and her fiance Tomi Wirtanen was one of the jurors in UMK13 & 14. So there is at least interest to follow the contest. But is she interested to participate in it?
