I can’t stand this. It’s a novel idea to sing about Cleopatra, but the instrumental seems uninspired, the la la la la is annoying as all get out, and the cleopattttra is kinda infuriating. Azerbaijan in my bottom ten for the third year in a row, and bottom five in two of those.

Imagine being heavily rumored for 5 years only to send this garbage. Azerbaijan is actually sending a San Marino reject, another random thing in the 2020 season

My opinion:
"Cleopatra" fits to Azerbaijan's recent "Eurovision formula": complementing entries composed by foreign producers with ethnic elements. As some of you might observe, the leaked version did not include an ethnic element at all, with the latest part of the song having Latino style, on the contrary.
Azerbaijani Eurovision fans reacted very positively to our entry. I do not like the song to be honest, but that stems from my apathy towards pop culture, so I am not going to comment much on the entry.
I personally see a "Fuego" potential in this song. While I do not believe Samira will achieve as high placing as Eleni Foureira, with the right staging and choreography, "Cleopatra" can do really well.
Most of the comments on the song from international ESC audience also seem to be positive. Moreover, Azerbaijan jumped to 12th place in the odds when I checked it the last time.
On another note, I am almost sure this song's lyrics will make headlines in our local media given how homophobic society we do have in Azerbaijan. Combined with the lack of interest towards Eurovision in Azerbaijan, I do not think this entry will be well-received in general, despite the affirmative reactions from fans.
What is the song about?
About her song, Efendi says: "Cleopatra is a song about trusting your gut instinct, standing up for yourself and being a “queen” - even when things get tough and especially if someone betrays or hurts you. It is truly a song about freedom, a celebration of all cultures and all sexualities and it’s a song that is meant to inspire people to be who they are and to be proud of themselves - just as Cleopatra was. She was a queen who went through love, heartbreak, and betrayal, but she stood up for herself and is now remembered as an icon of strength and femininity."
